Summer is here and the sun has been high! And talking about the weather has long been a national pastime! However, with temperatures in Norwich regularly up around 30 and on a number of occasions exceeded that, the national news have been highlighting that weather like this is as perilous for those living on the street as winter conditions, calling for donations of water and sunscreen. The risks of sunburn and dehydration are particularly high at these times, reminding us to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
So how much water should you drink a day? The NHS Eatwell guidelines recommend 6-8 glasses a day (depends on the size of glass right?) but ordinarily about 2 litres a day. You can tell if you're dehydrated if you're feeling thirsty, that's always the first sign. You should also look out for feeling tired or faint, muscle cramps, infrequent urinating and very dark urine.
How much more water should you drink on a hot day? If you're sweating more you need to increase your intake to allow for that loss. Simply increase the number of glasses to 10 to allow for this. And remember feeling thirsty is the first sign that you are dehydrated.
When you sweat you're also losing electrolytes so include a glass or two of milk which contains sodium and potassium where water doesn't.
St Martins updates..
It's been hot!!
The Pathways project has been launched at the end of July led by St Martins with Shelter, YMCA Norfolk, The Salvation Army, City Reach, The Feed and Future Projects, designed to make it easier for people to access the necessary support. The idea is that there is “no wrong door” for people to go through. There will be drop-ins within each organisation including U1R and these will be on Wednesdays and Friday afternoons.

We were given this one outside Under 1 Roof, and it really made us smile!
We thought what a lovely idea and are thinking about doing some in our Art class!
Why don't you come into Art sometime, see what goes on and let us know your thoughts?
Lots of painted pebbles have been turning up on our streets of Norfolk. The idea is to keep or pass the pebbles on! Whenever you are out and about, keep your eyes peeled for Norfolk Rocks - you never know where they may be hidden. If you are lucky enough to find one, then take your rock home or rehide it for someone else to find. Feel free to join in with creating your own rocks to hide. Happy Hunting!

"I went to the event for the CD launch from Under 1 Roof that had some awesome acts like The Undies, Little Red Kings and Matt Watson and others who were doing something worthwhile to raise money and awareness of the homeless people in Norwich. The music on the night was top notch so I highly recommend people to support a great cause and buy a copy of the compilation album." PM
CD LAUNCH SUCCESS
Here are some members reviews of the gig.
"I had such an amazing night at the Gig. Not so long ago I wouldn't have had the confidence to get on stage. But with the brilliant music group on Tuesday afternoons I now can't wait to do this again. Everyone I spoke to had a fantastic night and the CD is great too. Thank you to all that made the evening possible and such a success." Jo
"This years launch of the Undies CD was from my point of view, a success. I was late in getting there, but still managed to see Matt Watson who as usual impressed me. I was also impressed with the family group Falling from Trees. All in all a good night." D.C
"A fantastic evening at U1R CD Launch! Not only was it an amazing performance by all, it brought people together to have fun bringing creativity, hope and friendship. No one's talents are wasted." Rachael
The Undies took to the stage at 8.00 to a healthy audience. Nerves were high beforehand but soon settled as the band launched themselves into an exciting and energetic set including two originals "Looking at You" ( featured on the Under One Riff album) and "Mondays Girl", and five covers including "Pyscho Killer", "Hurt" and "Echo Beach". The entire band played really well and this reflected the hard work everyone had put into the gig. They have been practising all year, and all agreed it was an amazing experience to perform their own songs. One guy was so impressed with Dave's song they asked to do a cover of it!!
