Learning |Achievement|Flexibility
What Motivates you or motivated you to run your own business? I have a desire to learn and grow, and that’s what keeps both my motivation and momentum going. Can’t say that I’m an over-achiever, but achievement was a value instilled in me as a child. My strongest motivation to run my own business and be my own boss is to have flexibility in my schedule. Flexibility and autonomy were important to me in college and they are still driving forces now. When you add all that up, learning + achievement + flexibility + autonomy, you launch a business. How do you know if the business you're starting is right for you? That’s just it. There are no guarantees when it comes to starting a business. It takes courage and faith in yourself to start a business. You know it is right for you because your inner pilot light glows hotter, people notice your excitement when you talk about it, and in our chaotic world, it might be the only thought in your mind that feels like true North. How do you juggle your vision, family and work? I juggle just like everyone, but luckily I’ve identified that I’m not very good at it. What I mean is, I try not to add more to my plate and juggle more balls. Simply, that’s not in my wheelhouse. When I slow time and focus introspectively with 10 minutes of meditation, daily journaling and walking outside for 1-3 miles, I am able to distill down what is really important and what is a top priority. Having clarity is the best way for me to juggle, even if it is only a few balls. Your keeping busy these days with a lot of projects. Can you sum up your personal brand for us? I'm a podcaster, entrepreneur and brand ambassador. My most recent endeavor is becoming a liaison for the online wine resource and app Kazzit. It's definitely worth checking out! I've launched multiple brands and projects in the wine space and love to collaborate. (Continued...) (Continue)
Thoughts To Sip On From Passionate Entrepreneur, Steph Davis , Co-Host Wine Two Five Podcast
As a wine professional, I tried out a lot of ideas and started multiple projects/businesses. Today, I appreciate that all those trials, failures, start-ups, brands, etc. have taught me everything I know now. One of my biggest lessons on having multiple businesses is the importance of partnerships and teams. Being a one-man-band is a tough gig with a short lifespan. What business books are you reading now? Right now I’m reading Becoming Wise: An Inquiry into the Mystery and Art of Living by Krista Tippett in the morning after journaling. Before I go to sleep, I like to read fiction and currently I’m enjoying The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. One of my favorite business and personal development books is The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. The next book I’ll start is Getting to Yes with Yourself: and Other Worth Opponents by William Ury. I can’t help but add this one tid-bit - use your local library to access free books, e-books, and other learning tools. What Podcast's are you listening too? So many podcasts, so little time. What a good problem to have! On demand audio content is so freakin’ cool. For business and personal development, I listen to the Tim Ferriss Show, Achieve Your Goals by Hal Elrod, and Go Time The Indiegogo Podcast. For podcasting advice and ideas, I play She Podcast, The Feed, and Podcasters Unplugged. For wine geeky fun, I like In The Drink hosted by Joe Campanale, Wine Enthusiast Podcast, and We Like Drinking. Final business advice, quote or thoughts? We all have the “Imposter Syndrome” and that “little-bitty-shitty-committee” in our head telling us that we aren’t good enough or smart enough, but when you can tell it to go-to-hell, you give yourself permission to get back to making your dreams come true and holding hands with joy. Steph Davis is the Co-Host of The WIne Two Five Podcast, a Sommelier and Entrepreneur and most recently a liason for Kazzit.com bringing a fabulous app experience to wine lovers. Meet Denis Zeni, Owner/WInemaker Leuta Boutique Winery, Cortona, italy.
A tasting with Denis Zeni
At the beginning of March we had the rare pleasure of welcoming Denis Zeni of Leuta Winery into one of our GGG homes for a private wine tasting as part of his American tour sharing his passion and wines. I was already excited for our September trip to Tuscany, but Denis sealed my fate over his passion for carrying on his grandfather's love for wine. Leuta Winery is a boutique winery just outside of Cortona, Italy in the Tuscan Region. Our evening was a decadent treat as we tasted amazingly crafted wines directly from the vineyards of Italy while having the honor of the wine maker pouring and sharing stories of his beloved Italy and the community of Cortona. In fact, as you can only get these wines directly from Denis and the winery, we were experiencing wines that most won't have the chance to sip unless they're in Italy or part of Leuta Winery's private wine club. Or, if you hit some of us up that were present as I beleive most of us came away ordering wine! Denis shares his wines directly with you, so you won't find them sitting on the shelves of your local liquor stores, so it makes these wines a unique experience. While there are many Italian wines in the market, experiencing the wine maker and his wines in a private tasting, rather in your home or his winery is like finding a rare gem amongst the sand. Denis comes from a heritage of agriculture and wine making in the northern part of Italy. While wine making was in his blood, he pursued a different career path for a while, one that took him into the financial world. After a successful career and the passing of a loved one, he realized he wanted to pursue his passion for the land and wine and the journey to Cortona was begun. He wanted to celebrate the wines of his family and the love for the land he grew up in. He and a partner bought the land and planted the vineyards that would become known as Leuta Winery/Vineyards in the Tuscany community near Cortona. Every part of the process of the winery's operation are seen firsthand by Denis himself, along with an assistant and friends who are happy to be taste testers. He's in the vineyards, the barrels, the sales and the experience in every sip that comes from one of his bottles. We were fortunate to sample four of his varietals; Toscana, Syrah, Sangiovese and Merlot. Each offering an experience of it's own that was uniquely different. The Toscana, a table wine was the lightest of his reds. Those who preferred lighter reds enjoyed the ease of this wine. The Syrah and Sangiovese were the most popular. Both were elegant on the nose with finishes that left you waiting for your next sip. Merlot can get a bad rap, especially since the movie sideways, but this one open me up to sipping Leuta Merlot as it was delightful. Italian wines can be drank alone, but are also food friendly. The wines are only enhanced by the food you serve, as in Italy, wine drinking is as much about the familia and friends you surround yourself with. Did I mention his Cabernet Franc that we ordered on description alone is amazing. Find out more about Leuta Boutique Winery HERE!

At times we are so in sync it's scary. We're thinking the same thing, finishing each other's sentences and craving the same thing for dinner. Then there are those moments, you know the ones, where we look at each other and I know he's from another planet. That's the only reasonable explanation for what comes out of his mouth. Take traveling with a carry on bag verses checking your bag....

Twenty years, two kids and seven pups later this couple keeps laughing through life. Yes, even when they don't agree.
SHE SAYS: Carry On! No time to waste waiting on luggage. I want my vacay to start the minute I walk off the plane. HE SAYS: Check my bag! Never lost a bag or had it not arrive, so I don't get what the big deal is. SHE SAYS: But what about when we switch planes if we're running late...You don't know for sure that your bag is gonna make it. Then were stuck waiting on your bag. HE SAYS: Whatever! Name one time that's happened to us in our 20 years together. Yeah...that's right, you can't. Don't hurt your brain , it's never happened. SHE SAYS: That's not the point. Why risk it when you don't have too. If you didn't pack like a women, you'd be able to put everything in one carry on. Why risk it on our Italy trip? HE SAYS: I'm checking my bag and that's, that. If it gets lost, I'll just buy Italian clothes. When in Rome... SHE SAYS: Fine. If you loose your luggage I get to buy a pair of Italian shoes for every piece of clothing you need to replace. When in Rome... HE SAYS: Now you're pushing it. SHE SAYS: Then pack lighter and use a carry on. You don't loose clothes, I don't buy shoes...it's a win- win. HE SAYS: That's your idea of a win-win? SHE SAYS: Leaves more money for wine! HE SAYS: When in Italy....So, I guess you're saying I need to carry on for Italy. SHE SAYS: Did I just win this one? I'm pretty sure I heard you say you'll carry on. HE SAYS: For the Italy trip. Don't push it. SHE SAYS: I did just win this one! I'm gonna do my happy dance. Love you honey. HE SAYS: Yeah, yeah...the things that make you happy. But, I'd look good in an Italian suit.

the best Time to Buy a Tuxedo is now!
14 SIPONLIFE
If you’ve read past the headline, good! Even if you don’t consider yourself fancy enough to need a tuxedo on standby in your closet, now is the best time to go for it. Here’s why. REASON 1 - [here’s an old saying about planting a tree: The best time to plant a tree is 30 years ago; the second-best time to plant a tree is right now. Like a tree, a tuxedo is an investment, and its value grows over time. If you attend black-tie events every 1-2 years, and rent a tux for $150-200 every time….well, you do the math. Depending on the professional and social functions that your (or your significant other’s) job requires, it may be extremely practical to just make the purchase. REASON 2 - Custom fit is going to be so much more flattering for you than the fit provided by the general dimensions for a rental. An oft-quoted line is, “A well-tailored suit is to women as lingerie is to men.” If you’re going to wear a tuxedo, wear it well. Make it count. If you don’t have fit, you don’t have style. (That’s a line that has stuck with me from “What Not to Wear,” but it’s so true.) REASON 3 - Are you on the board of a nonprofit that holds a gala every year, or do you aspire to attending formal social functions with greater frequency? A great tuxedo in the closet is your go-to Superman cape for these types of things. If you’re invited to something “above” what you consider to be your usual social sphere, you’ll skip that “what would I wear?” moment and be able to show up with style and confidence. REASON 4 - Speaking of style... a tux will never go out of style. A midnight blue or black tux is a timeless wardrobe staple that will bring the “wow” factor and the respect of your peers, and it won’t need to be replaced according to the gradual changes of seasonal trends. Step up your wardrobe with this one purchase, and great things will happen! -Alana McGough is a personal clothier serving northern Colorado. "As a fairly new Coloradoan, I joined Girls Gone Grape as a way to meet ladies who were outgoing and had a love of all things wine. I've been to many fun events (painting pottery, chocolate/wine pairings, movies, musicals .. the list goes on) with this amazing group of ladies, and I continue to be astounded by how friendly, open, witty and caring they all are. They embraced me with open arms and have helped me to settle in and feel at home here in Colorado. I am proud to be a member of this incredible group, and I look forward to many more adventures with them! Erin B. Kristie P. - Colorado " What's not to like? Wine, girlfriends and plenty of giggles! “I joined Girls Gone Grape to learn more about wine tasting, but I didn't expect to develop long lasting relationships in the process! This group has given me the opportunity to meet so many outstanding and successful women, an it has been a true pleasure to celebrate each other's individuality and successes over a glass of wine (or two...). Whether we are flying high on a zipline or enjoying an evening of gourmet pairings, this group challenges you to step outside your comfort zone, meet new people, and tickle your taste buds all at the same time. Come for the wine but stay for the friendship!" Jessica B.

Meet Michelle Cleveland Of Creekside Cellars
A Colorado Winemaker and self-professed big red meat eater who enjoys a big Bordeaux and something to chew on. This mid-west farm girl was raised to appreciate the value of family, friends, food and wine, which led her down a career path involving agriculture, coffee and wine; all things coming from the land.
MICHELLE recently had a winemaker's bucket list item checked off with a mention for her wines in Robert Parker's Wine Journal in February when they spotlighted a few of Colorado's wineries. Kudos to Michelle as her wines are not to be missed when visiting Colorado. What is your favorite part of wine making? The Crush…The level of intensity; it’s like you’re in a constant state of euphoria. All this energy and you’re working a lot, it’s almost like you’re on a grape high. I’m the first stop on the truck as it’s coming over from Palisade, so I’m here at 5 in the morning unloading, setting everything up in the dark, and just that whole process. Customers love it. The other fun thing about crush for me is that my mom comes to help. She and my dad come in from Illinois and she comes out every year to help me with the crush. She comes out for like three weeks and gets up with me. It’s an exciting time and Bill always for the last crush, the last time I have to use the press, he’ll always bring me these ribeye steaks that are big and thick and we eat ribeye’s as that means this it… the end of crush. There’s all these fun things, but I love the crush. Do you have a favorite grape varietal you like to work with? Cabernet Franc! This is the grape I promote as the Colorado Grape. It doesn’t require as long of a growing season, so it ripens a lot earlier and is probably the most consistently made wine here in Colorado. And really, no one has taken claim to this grape, so I promote it as Colorado’s Cabernet. Which you’ll see on my label. The label for my franc is my pride and joy. What do you think is the main factor women look for in wine? I think women look for aromatics. Women are a little more patient and I think aromatics play to that which is why it’s so important to me to have really good aromatics on our wine. If you can’t smell, then you can’t taste. If you can grab their attention right away with the aromatics, then you can sell them on the wine. I'm producing a movie about your adventures in wine making. What should I call it and who should play you? I love Julia Roberts as she's beautiful and smart. As for a title, how about A Girl and A Bung Hole. Beautiful and Smart sums Michelle Cleveland up. A woman who is lives life, wine and Colorado. fully. Join us every 2nd Tuesday for Interludes at Creekside Cellars in Evergreen, CO for a chance to meet Michelle Cleveland and sip on fabulous wines with fabulous women, Check out our calendar for time and dates. You might even get her to share how she went from coffee to wine and became a true Girl Gone Grape!

I love adding special touches to my parties, like themed coasters! They're simple and elegant! I run over to my local hardware store and pick up a set of tiles. I love the ones that are stone and find they work best in my coaster projects. Then I stop by the craft store to pick up my other goodies and use magazine photos or copies I've made on my printer on heavier paper for my designs. As the photo shows, this theme was a "Roaring Gatsby" party. Here are the steps to create your own one of a kind coasters: 1) Cut cork squares to go on the bottom of tiles, leaving a slight edge around all sides. 2) Take your photos and decoupage them onto tile. Let dry for an hour and repeat. Do this 4-5 times. Lastly, coat with waterproof sealant and viola... Send your guests home with sets of two!
