(Thomas Paine) “Reputation is what men and women think of us. Character is what God and the angels know of us.” (John Bunyan) “Hope has a thick skin and will endure many a blow; it will put on patience as a vestment, it will wade through a sea of blood, it will endure all things if it be of the right kind, for the joy that is set before it. Hence patience is called ‘patience of hope,’ because it is hope that makes the soul exercise patience and long-suffering under the cross, until the time comes to enjoy the crown.” (Charles Swindoll) “There is no torment like the inner torment of an unforgiving spirit. It refuses to be soothed, it refuses to be healed, it refuses to forget.”

Presider: E. David 'Daebii' Choi Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 104:31-35 “31May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works, 32who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! 33I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. 34May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord. 35Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more! Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!” SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Joel 2:12-13 (NIV) “Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #32 – OF THANKFULNESS 86. Since, then, we are redeemed from our misery by grace through Christ, without any merit of ours, why must we do good works? Because Christ, having redeemed us by His blood, also renews us by His Holy Spirit after His own image, that with our whole life we show ourselves thankful to God for His blessing,[1] and that He be glorified through us;[2] then also, that we ourselves may be assured by our faith by the fruits thereof;[3] and by our godly walk win also others to Christ.[4] [1]Rom. 6:13; 12:1-2; I Pet. 2:5, 9-10; I Cor. 6:20.[2]Mt. 5:16; I Pet. 2:12.[3]Mt. 7:17-18; Gal. 5:6, 22-23.[4] Rom. 14:19; I Pet. 3:1-2; *II Pet. 1:10. 87. Can they, then, not be saved who do not turn to God from their unthankful, impenitent life? By no means, for, as Scripture says, no unchaste person, idolater, adulterer, thief, covetous man, drunkard, slanderer, robber, or the like shall inherit the kingdom of God.[1] [1]I Cor. 6:9-10; Eph. 5:5-6; I Jn. 3:14-15. The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters. And where does our own sinfulness come in the picture? If God called us to a costly discipleship in the first place [Matthew 16:24; Luke 14:26; Mark 10:21-22], why are we so often surprised in real life and struggle so much by the losses we experience? How can we cultivate great hope and faith like Job and other saints? What direction are we given from the sermon? What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM AFRICA Pray for the IJM Uganda team as they have recently taken on two domestic violence cases. One of the cases resulted in the death of a child, and the other resulted in serious injury to an infant. Pray for God's mercy and healing for the infant who is in the hospital now. Pray for our team to be able to support surviving family members well in the midst of so much deep pain and suffering, and for police and the justice system to follow up quickly on these cases so that justice can be done. SOUTH ASIA Pray that the judgement coming up soon in a 2013 case of bonded labour would bring justice! In this case, IJM helped local authorities rescue three adults (and their five young children who were not working) from ongoing violence and appalling conditions at an embroidery factory. This was one of the first times IJM ever took a case in the embroidery and textiles industry. Please pray that a judgement will be delivered soon (even during pandemic delays) and that the factory owner will be held accountable for exploiting these young families.
