(Chinese Proverb) “A day of sorrow is longer than a month of joy.” (George MacDonald) “All our winters are Gods; the winter of our sorrow, the winter of our unhappiness, even the winter of discontent.” (Robert Browning Hamilton) “I walked a mile with Pleasure. She chatted all the way; And left me none the wiser for all she had to say. I walked a mile with Sorrow; And ne’er a word said she; But, oh, the things I learned from her when Sorrow walked with me.” (Theodore Ledyard Cuyler) “God sometimes washes the eyes of his children with tears in order that they may read aright His providence and His commandments.”

Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 107:10-16 10Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, 11for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High.12So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. 13Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. 15Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! 16For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Here the good news! Jeremiah 33:8 – “I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #35 – THE LAW OF GOD 99. What is required in the third Commandment? That we must not by cursing,[1] or by false swearing,[2] nor yet by unnecessary oaths,[3] profane or abuse the name of God; nor even by our silence and connivance be partakers of these horrible sins in others; and in summary, that we use the holy name of God in no other way than with fear and reverence,[4] so that He may be rightly confessed[5] and worshiped[6] by us, and be glorified in all our words and works.[7] [1]Lev. 24:10-16. [2]Lev. 19:12. [3]Mt. 5:37; Jas. 5:12. [4]Isa. 45:23. [5]Mt. 10:32. [6]I Tim. 2:8. [7]Rom. 2:24; I Tim. 6:1; Col. 3:16- 17; *I Pet. 3:15. 100. Is the profaning of God's name, by swearing and cursing, so grievous a sin that His wrath is kindled against those also who do not help as much as they can to hinder and forbid it? Yes, truly,[1] for no sin is greater and more provoking to God than the profaning of His name; wherefore He even commanded it to be punished with death.[2] [1]Lev. 5:1 [2]Lev. 24:15-16; *Lev. 19:12; *Prov. 29:24-25.
