(Martin Farquhar Tupper) “Error is a hardy plant; it flourishes in every soil.” (Jews for Jesus) “The ancient Hebrew concept of peace, rooted in the word shalom, meant wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety and prosperity, carrying with it the implication of permanence. The criteria for shalom, true peace, rests with God.” (Glynn Harrison’s “A Better Story”) “For Christians, true human flourishing isn’t found in the pursuit of self-fulfilment, but in living in harmony with our true identity. It involves playing our part in the bigger story of the break-in of God’s rule; we flourish when we look outwards, serving others and working for a good greater than ourselves.”

Presider: Sijin Yang Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 99:1-5 “The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! 2The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. 3Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he! 4The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. 5Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!” SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Joel 2:12-13 "Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #27 – THE SACRAMENTS, OF HOLY BAPTISM 72. Is, then, the outward washing with water itself the washing away of sins? No,[1] for only the blood of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit cleanse us from all sin.[2] [1]I Pet. 3:21; Eph. 5:26. [2]I Jn. 1:7; I Cor. 6:11. 73. Why then does the Holy Ghost call Baptism the washing of regeneration and the washing away of sins? God speaks thus with great cause, namely, not only to teach us thereby that just as the filthiness of the body is taken away by water, so our sins are taken away by the blood and Spirit of Christ;[1] but much more, that by this divine pledge and token He may assure us that we are as really washed from our sins spiritually as our bodies are washed with water.[2] [1]Rev. 7:14. [2]Mk. 16:16; *Acts 2:38. 74. Are infants also to be baptized? Yes, for since they, as well as their parents, belong to the covenant and people of God,[1] and through the blood of Christ[2] both redemption from sin and the Holy Ghost, who works faith, are promised to them no less than to their parents,[3] they are also by Baptism, as a sign of the covenant, to be ingrafted into the Christian Church, and distinguished from the children of unbelievers,[4] as was done in the Old Testament by circumcision,[5] in place of which in the New Testament Baptism is appointed.[6] [1]Gen. 17:7. [2]Mt. 19:14. [3]Lk. 1:14-15; Ps. 22:10;Acts 2:39. [4]Acts 10:47. [5]Gen. 17:14. [6]Col. 2:11-13. How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”

The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters. COMMUNITY BIBLE READING Monday 6 July 2 Chronicles 27 / 2 Tim. 3 Tuesday 7 July 2 Chronicles 28 / 2 Tim. 4 Wednesday 8 July 2 Chronicles 29 / Titus 1 Thursday 9 July 2 Chronicles 30 / Titus 2 Friday 10 July 2 Chronicles 31 / Titus 3 Saturday 11 July Psalm 80 PRAYING THROUGH YOUR PEN DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Obviously we all want to “live well.” But how does our Creator-God commission His people to flourish according to His design? What do you make of our current earthly political offering (social & governmental)? Can perfection be expected in any of the systems? What is the best way to cope and participate constructively according to the sermon? How does our Lord Jesus Christ satisfy our longing for human flourishing, and how does the Holy Spirit guide our path to glory? What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM LATIN AMERICA Pray for wisdom for court authorities in Bolivia as they begin rescheduling hearings under what the government calls "dynamic lockdown." This new measure allows cities with a smaller concentration of COVID-19 cases to regain some normality and requires cities with a higher number of confirmed cases to continue to comply with strict quarantine requirements. As courts open up or hold virtual hearings when possible, pray for political will to move cases of sexual violence against children forward instead of delaying justice for survivors and their families. SOUTHEAST ASIA Praise God that in Thailand, despite the pandemic lockdown, IJM, government partners and local stakeholders have been able to provide relief packages to some of the most affected communities of migrant workers. Providing support to these workers has also been a cause championed by the Thai public. Andrew Wasuwongse, Field Office Director of IJM Bangkok reiterated that "we remain vigilant - standing with our government and other partners to make sure emergency needs are met. However, fishermen face increased risk not only from COVID-19 but also from non-payment of wages and forced labour. Therefore, we work to ensure that there is justice and protection for all." Continue praying for fishermen and other migrant workers who are at risk from crimes like trafficking, that they would be protected and safe during this time.
1. Adoration Praise the Father for His attributes and actions 2. Confession Confess and acknowledge your sinfulness 3. Thanksgiving Thank Jesus for His salvation 4. Supplication Ask the Spirit to transform you
