(Tim Keller in King's Cross) "Mark had been a secretary and translator for Peter <according to Papias, bishop of Hierapolis, who lived from 60-135 A.D.. Papias knew Apostle John personally.> …and ‘wrote accurately all that [Peter] remembered.’ Mark mentions Peter proportionately more than any of other Gospels. …you’ll see that nothing happens in which Peter is not present. The entire Gospel of Mark, then, is almost certainly the eyewitness testimony of Peter." (Kent Hughes, on John’s presence and preaching) “He knew exactly what he was doing, for he had assumed the dress and style of the ancient prophet Elijah… who called his people to national repentance. John’s dress and lifestyle were a protest against the godlessness and self-serving materialism of his day. it amounted to a call to separate oneself from the sinful culture, repent, and live a life focused on God. Even… the desert… was a subtle acknowledgment of Israel’s history of disobedience and rebellion and a desire to begin again.” (Michael Horton) “If the focus of our testimony is our changed life, we as well as our hearers are bound to be disappointed." (Oswald Chambers) “Jesus Christ carries on intercession for us in heaven; the Holy Ghost carries on intercession in us on earth; and we the saints have to carry on intercession for all men.”
Presider: Jacko Ju Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 145:14-21 14The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. 15The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. 16You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. 17The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. 18The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. 20The Lord preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. 21My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news of the forgiveness of your sins! Ezekiel 36:25-26 "I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleanness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – Q&A #13 Can anyone keep the law of God perfectly? Since the fall, no mere human has been able to keep the law of God perfectly, but consistently breaks it in thought, word and deed. [Romans 3:10-12] “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” SONGS OF PRAISE Rejoice Good and Gracious King Great are you Lord OFFERING / DEDICATION To help you think about your level of giving, here is the financial snapshot of HCC for this month: Last Week’s Giving: $2,006.00 Total March Giving: $11.133.05 Monthly Budget: $15,500.00 Sydney Space: $19,366.71 GENERAL TITHES & OFFERINGS vs. SYDNEY SPACE OFFERING These are two separate HCC accounts (BSB: 082 057).
