(Shackerley Marmion, 1603-1639) “Great joys, like griefs, are silent.” (Dwight Moody) “Happiness is caused by things that happen around me, and circumstances will mar it. But joy flows right on through trouble; joy flows on through the dark; joy flows in the night as well as in the day; joy flows all through persecution and opposition. It is an unceasing fountain bubbling up in the heart; a secret spring the world can’t see and doesn’t know anything about. The Lord gives his people perpetual joy when they walk in obedience to him.” (Paul Sailhamer) “Joy is that deep settled confidence that God is in control in every area of my life.” (Hannah Hurnard) “Real joy is sorrow accepted and transformed.”

Presider: E. David 'Daebii' Choi Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 103:20-22 “20Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! 21Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will! 22Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!” SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Psalm 103:13-17 “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. 14For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. 15As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; 16for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. 17But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and righteousness to his children's children.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #30 – THE SACRAMENTS, OF HOLY SUPPER 80. What difference is there between the Lord's Supper and the Pope's Mass? The Lord's Supper testifies to us that we have full forgiveness of all our sins by the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which He Himself once accomplished on the cross;[1] and that by the Holy Ghost we are ingrafted into Christ,[2] who, with His true body, is now in heaven at the right hand of the Father,[3] and is there to be worshipped.[4] But the Mass teaches that the living and the dead do not have forgiveness of sins through the sufferings of Christ, unless Christ is still daily offered for them by the priests, and that Christ is bodily under the form of bread and wine, and is therefore to be worshipped in them. And thus the Mass at bottom is nothing else than a denial of the one sacrifice and suffering of Jesus Christ,[5] and an accursed idolatry. [1]Heb. 7:27; 9:12, 25-28; 10:10, 12, 14; Jn. 19:30. [2]I Cor. 6:17. [3]Heb. 1:3; 8:1. [4]Jn. 4:21-24; 20:17; Lk. 24:52; Acts 7:55; Col. 3:1; Phil. 3:20-21; I Thess. 1:9-10. [5]See Hebrews chapters 9 and 10; *Mt. 4:10. 81. Who are to come to the table of the Lord? Those who are displeased with themselves for their sins, yet trust that these are forgiven them, and that their remaining infirmity is covered by the suffering and death of Christ; who also desire more and more to strengthen their faith and to amend their life. But the impenitent and hypocrites eat and drink judgment to themselves.[1] [1]I Cor. 10:19-22; 11:28-29; *Ps. 51:3; *Jn. 7:37-38; Ps. 103:1-4; *Mt. 5:6. 82. Are they, then, also to be admitted to this Supper who show themselves by their confession and life to be unbelieving and ungodly? No, for thereby the covenant of God is profaned and His wrath provoked against the whole congregation;[1] therefore, the Christian Church is bound, according to the order of Christ and His Apostles, to exclude such persons by the Office of the Keys until they amend their lives. The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters. What do we find common between Isaac and Jesus Christ? How do you experience “gospel joy” in your life as described in the sermon? What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM AUSTRALIA Pray as churches around the world take part in Freedom Sunday on the 20th of September, united to end slavery. Freedom Sunday is an invitation for congregations to learn about slavery, to consider how the Bible guides us to seek justice, to pray for rescue and restoration, and partner with IJM. AFRICA Pray for wisdom as leaders have to make decisions about how best to protect their citizens, and for health and healing for all those affected by COVID-19. While up to now cases of COVID-19 in Africa have been relatively low compared to other hotspots, WHO said last week that there are concerns about a sharp rise in cases in some African countries. There is still much uncertainty about how the continent — which has a relatively young population — will be affected as the pandemic continues. Pray for the healthcare systems, that they would have the resources that they need to respond. Pray for communities in poverty that are most devastated by the economic impacts of both lockdowns and outbreaks. SOUTH ASIA Please pray for IJM staff re-strategizing on the case of a 15-year-old girl we are trying to rescue from sex trafficking. We had hoped to conduct an operation last week to rescue this girl and arrest three female traffickers, who were suspected to be part of a larger trafficking network. Unfortunately, the operation had to be postponed due to COVID-19 lockdowns, extreme weather and additional police investigations. Please pray we could gather the remaining evidence necessary to move this operation forward safely as soon as possible — and pray for this suspected victim's safety as we work to rescue her.
1. Adoration Praise the Father for His attributes and actions 2. Confession Confess and acknowledge your sinfulness 3. Thanksgiving Thank Jesus for His salvation 4. Supplication Ask the Spirit to transform you
