(Thomas Watson) “Sin has the devil for its father, shame for its companion, and death for its wages.” (R. C. Sproul) “The very word authority has within it the word author. An author is someone who creates and possesses a particular work. In so far as God is the foundation of all authority, He exercises that foundation because He is the author and the owner of His creation. He is the foundation upon which all other authority stands or falls.” (Timothy Keller) “The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”

Presider: P. Jim Jung Preacher: Sijin Yang CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 103:1-5 “1Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.“ SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Psalm 103:8-12 “The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #29 – THE SACRAMENTS, OF HOLY SUPPER 78. Do, then, the bread and the wine become the real body and blood of Christ? No, but as the water in Baptism is not changed into the blood of Christ, nor becomes the washing away of sins itself, being only the divine token and assurance thereof,[1] so also in the Lord's Supper the sacred bread[2] does not become the body of Christ itself, though agreeably to the nature and usage of sacraments it is called the body of Christ.[3] [1]Mt. 26:29. [2]I Cor. 11:26-28. [3]Ex. 12:26-27, 43, 48; I Cor. 10:1-4. 79. Why then does Christ call the bread His body, and the cup His blood, or the new testament in His blood; and the apostle Paul, the communion of the body and the blood of Christ? Christ speaks thus with great cause, namely, not only to teach us thereby, that like as the bread and wine sustain this temporal life, so also His crucified body and shed blood are the true meat and drink of our souls unto life eternal;[1] but much more, by this visible sign and pledge to assure us that we are as really partakers of His true body and blood by the working of the Holy Ghost, as we receive by the mouth of the body these holy tokens in remembrance of Him;[2] and that all His sufferings and obedience are as certainly our own, as if we ourselves had suffered and done all in our own person. [1]Jn. 6:51-55 (See Question 76). [2]I Cor. 10:16-17 (See Question 78). SONGS OF PRAISE (Minwoo Yim) Living Hope Come Thou Fount OFFERING / DEDICATION To help you think about your level of giving, here is the financial snapshot of HCC for this month: Last Week’s Giving: $2,514.45 Total Giving for June: $6,934.75 Monthly Budget: $17,130 Sydney Space: $8,942.94 PRAYER FOR CHRIST'S CHURCH & THE WORLD (Keara Chan) SCRIPTURE READING Romans 1:18-25 (Keara Chan) “18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.” SERMON "Suffering and Sorrow in the Christian Life" – Genesis 3:1-24 Hurt in Relationships Frustration in Work Separation from God ANNOUNCEMENTS RESPONSIVE SONG Build My Life BENEDICTION Ephesians 3:17-19 “17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters. How does the gospel provide hope for healing? How was the cultural mandate frustrated by the Fall? How does the gospel provide a solution for its restoration? What is the significance of Adam and Eve’s exile from the Garden? How does the gospel allow for the exiles to return? What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM LATIN AMERICA Pray for wisdom for court authorities in Bolivia as they begin rescheduling hearings under what the government calls "dynamic lockdown." This new measure allows cities with a smaller concentration of COVID-19 cases to regain some normality and requires cities with a higher number of confirmed cases to continue to comply with strict quarantine requirements. As courts open up or hold virtual hearings when possible, pray for political will to move cases of sexual violence against children forward instead of delaying justice for survivors and their families. SOUTHEAST ASIA Praise God that in Thailand, despite the pandemic lockdown, IJM, government partners and local stakeholders have been able to provide relief packages to some of the most affected communities of migrant workers. Providing support to these workers has also been a cause championed by the Thai public. Andrew Wasuwongse, Field Office Director of IJM Bangkok reiterated that "we remain vigilant - standing with our government and other partners to make sure emergency needs are met. However, fishermen face increased risk not only from COVID-19 but also from non-payment of wages and forced labour. Therefore, we work to ensure that there is justice and protection for all." Continue praying for fishermen and other migrant workers who are at risk from crimes like trafficking, that they would be protected and safe during this time.
