(Alex Kim) “Jesus doesn’t heal a lame man so he can live an ordinary life; he heals the lame man so he can have an extraordinary life. Jesus doesn’t heal a lame man so he can walk away from him; he heals the lame man so he can walk back to him.” (Tim Keller) “As many have learned and later taught, you don’t realize Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.” (Jonathan Edwards) “God is the highest good of the reasonable creature. The enjoyment of him is our proper; and is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Better than fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of any, or all earthly friends. These are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams; but God is the sun. These are but streams; but God is the fountain. These are but drops, but God is the ocean.”
Presider: David Choi Preacher: Alex Kim CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 147:1-6 1 Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. 2The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. 3He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. 4He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. 5Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. 6The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news of the forgiveness of your sins! Psalm 130:3-4 3If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – Q&A #16 Q. What is sin? A. Sin is rejecting or ignoring God in the world he created, rebelling against him by living without reference to him, not being or doing what he requires in his law—resulting in our death and the disintegration of all creation. 1 John 3:4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters.
