(Henry Brooks Adams) “No one means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words are slippery and thought is sticky.” (Blaise Pascal) “Cold words freeze people, and hot words scorch them, and bitter words make them bitter, and wrathful words make them wrathful.Kind words… soothe, and quiet, and comfort the hearer.” (Henri J. M. Nouwen) “Sometimes it seems that our many words are more an expression of our doubt than of our faith. It is as if we are not sure that God’s Spirit can touch the hearts of people; we have to help him out and, with many words, convince others of his power. But it is precisely this wordy unbelief that quenches the fire.”
Presider: Sijin Yang Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 141:3-7 3Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! 4Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies! 5Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it. Yet my prayer is continually against their evil deeds. 6When their judges are thrown over the cliff, then they shall hear my words, for they are pleasant. 7As when one plows and breaks up the earth, so shall our bones be scattered at the mouth of Sheol. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news! Psalm 32:1-2 “3For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. 5I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – #7 7. What does the law of God require? Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done. That we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. [Matt.22:37-40] And [Jesus] said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” SONGS OF PRAISE Before the Throne of God Above Speak O Lord OFFERING / DEDICATION To help you think about your level of giving, here is the financial snapshot of HCC for this month: Last Week’s Giving: $2,378.50 Total February Giving: $4,935.50 Monthly Budget: $18,766.57 Sydney Space: $18,766.57 GENERAL TITHES & OFFERINGS vs. SYDNEY SPACE OFFERING These are two separate HCC accounts (BSB: 082 057). Can you recall a time when you were greatly impacted (for good or ill) by mere few words—whether yours or by others? What happened? What would you change about those words, if anything?
