(Alexander Shamemann) “A marriage which does not constantly crucify its own selfishness and self-sufficiency, which does not ‘die to itself’ that it may point beyond itself, is not a Christian marriage. The real sin of marriage today is not adultery or lack of ‘adjustment’ or ‘mental cruelty.’ It is the idolization of the family itself, the refusal to understand marriage as directed toward the Kingdom of God. This is expressed in the sentiment that one would ‘do anything’ for his family, even steal. The family has here ceased to be for the glory of God;” (Tim Keller, in Meaning of Marriage) “Love without truth is sentimentality; it supports and affirms us but keeps us in denial about our flaws. Truth without love is harshness; it gives us information but in such a way that we cannot really hear it. God's saving love in Christ, however, is marked by both radical truthfulness about who we are and yet also radical, unconditional commitment to us. The merciful commitment strengthens us to see the truth about ourselves and repent. The conviction and repentance moves us to cling to and rest in God's mercy and grace.” (“Kuyperian Theology” by James D. Bratt) “The family… was first in every sense of the term. It was the first institution to appear in history and seeded all the rest. Its health was the foundation and surest barometer of a society’s wellbeing. It grew from nature, prospered by nurture, and properly taught its members how to balance personal autonomy, mutual dependence, and due responsibility — that is, it was society in miniature. Likewise its authority was the source of, model for, and limit upon the state. Properly functioning, it also exhibited church-like qualities in being crowned with love and becoming a school for morals.”

Presider: E. David 'Daebii' Choi Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 100:1-5 “1Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! 3Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! 5For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.“ SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #28 – THE SACRAMENTS, OF HOLY SUPPER 75. How is it signified and sealed to you in the Holy Supper that you partake of the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross and all His benefits? Thus: that Christ has commanded me and all believers to eat of this broken bread and to drink of this cup in remembrance of Him, and has joined therewith these promises:[1] first, that His body was offered and broken on the cross for me and His blood shed for me, as certainly as I see with my eyes the bread of the Lord broken for me and the cup communicated to me; and further, that with His crucified body and shed blood He Himself feeds and nourishes my soul to everlasting life, as certainly as I receive from the hand of the minister and taste with my mouth the bread and cup of the Lord, which are given me as certain tokens of the body and blood of Christ. [1]Mt. 26:26-28; Mk. 14:22-24; Lk. 22:19-20; I Cor. 10:16-17; 11:23-25; 12:13. 76. What does it mean to eat the crucified body and drink the shed blood of Christ? It means not only to embrace with a believing heart all the sufferings and death of Christ, and thereby to obtain the forgiveness of sins and life eternal;[1] but moreover, also, to be so united more and more to His sacred body by the Holy Spirit,[2] who dwells both in Christ and in us, that, although He is in heaven[3] and we on earth, we are nevertheless flesh of His flesh and bone of His bone,[4] and live and are governed forever by one Spirit, as members of the same body are governed by one soul.[5] [1]Jn. 6:35, 40, 47-48, 50-54. [2]Jn. 6:55-56. [3]Acts 3:21; I Cor. 11:26. [4]Eph. 3:16-19; 5:29-30, 32; I Cor. 6:15, 17, 19; I Jn. 4:13. [5]Jn.14:23; Jn. 6:56-58; Jn. 15:1-6; Eph. 4:15-16; Jn. 6:63. 77. Where has Christ promised that He will thus feed and nourish believers with His body and blood as certainly as they eat of this broken bread and drink of this cup? In the institution of the Supper, which says: “The Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread: and when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till He come.” And this promise is also repeated by the Apostle Paul, where he says: “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, so we being many are one body, for we are all partakers of that one bread.”[1] [1]I Cor. 11:23-25; 10:16-17. Avoid such people. 6For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 9But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.” SERMON "Marriage, Family, Church & Society" – Genesis 2:15-25 Partners for Life Life Multiplication Life Restoration ANNOUNCEMENTS RESPONSIVE SONG Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me BENEDICTION 2 Corinthians 13:11 “Finally, brothers, rejoice. How does the “connectedness” of individuals – couples – families – churches – societies provide a deeper appreciation and commitment for sanctification of individuals, couples and families? While we can never expect perfection in earthly societies, how does the vision of Christ encourage us strive heavenward? What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM AFRICA & EUROPE Pray for the IJM Uganda team as they have recently taken on two domestic violence cases. One of the cases resulted in the death of a child, and the other resulted in serious injury to an infant. Pray for God's mercy and healing for the infant who is in the hospital now. Pray for our team to be able to support surviving family members well in the midst of so much deep pain and suffering, and for police and the justice system to follow up quickly on these cases so that justice can be done. SOUTH ASIA Pray that the judgement coming up soon in a 2013 case of bonded labour would bring justice! In this case, IJM helped local authorities rescue three adults (and their five young children who were not working) from ongoing violence and appalling conditions at an embroidery factory. This was one of the first times IJM ever took a case in the embroidery and textiles industry. Please pray that a judgement will be delivered soon (even during pandemic delays) and that the factory owner will be held accountable for exploiting these young families.
