(Augustine of Hippo) “No man has a right to lead such a life of contemplation as to forget in his own ease the service due to his neighbor; nor has any man a right to be so immersed in active life as to neglect the contemplation of God.” (Francis Bacon) “When once the light of Divine Providence has illumined the believer’s soul, he is relieved and set free, not only from the extreme fear and anxiety that formerly oppressed him, but from all care. For as he justly shudders at the idea of chance, so he can confidently commit himself to God.” (John Calvin) “We need only to recognize God intimately present with us, and to address ourselves to Him every moment, that we may beg His assistance for getting to know His will in doubtful things, and for rightly performing those which we plainly see He requires of us; offering them to Him before we do them, and giving to Him thanks when we have done.”
Presider: Jason Ju Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 20:4-8 4 May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans! 5 May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions! 6 Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8 They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news of the forgiveness of your sins! 1 John 1:5-7 “5This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – Q&A #51 Q. Of what advantage to us is Christ’s ascension? A. Christ physically ascended on our behalf, just as he came down to earth physically on our account, and he is now advocating for us in the presence of his Father, preparing a place for us, and also sends us his Spirit. Romans 8:4 “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” SONGS OF PRAISE Angels We Have Heard On High Rejoice OFFERING Christ is Enough To help you think about your level of giving, here is the financial snapshot of HCC for this month: Last week’s Giving: $7,514.00 Total Giving for December: $7,154.00 Monthly Budget: $15,500 Sydney Space: $37,834.50 GENERAL TITHES & OFFERINGS vs. SYDNEY SPACE OFFERING These are two separate HCC accounts (BSB: 082 057). The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters.
