Jesus riding this young donkey (that has never been sat before), highlights his sinless nature, his purity, the one without sin. This sinless Jesus also is perfect sacrifice for sinful humanity. This donkey signifies not only the purity of Jesus but also the perfect sacrifice who’s going to die for his people. Samuel Son It’s an event of great insight and great misunderstanding. The great insight was that this Jesus really is “the King who comes in the name of the Lord”. He was the Messiah, the Son of David, the long-awaited Ruler of Israel, the fulfilment of all God’s promises. But the great misunderstanding was that he would enter Jerusalem and by his mighty works, take his throne and make Israel free from Rome. John Piper
It was deplorable, however, that by far the most of these people did not go one step farther: they should have combined Ps 118 with Isa 53 and with Zechariah 9:9... Then they would have recognised in Jesus the Messiah who saves his people from their sins. William Hendriksen So here is the concluding declaration and invitation: Jesus came the first time, and he is coming again, as the king over all kings. King of Israel, king of all the nations, king of nature and the universe. Until he comes again, there is a day of amnesty and forgiveness and patience. He still rides a donkey and not yet a white war-horse with a rod of iron. He is ready to save all who receive him as Saviour and Treasure and King. Come to him. Know him. Receive him. Live your life in allegiance to him. John Piper
Presider: Sijin Yang Preacher: David 'Daebi' Choi CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 118:19-26 19 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. 20 This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. 21 I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. 22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. 23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save us, we pray, O Lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success! 26Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news of the forgiveness of your sins! Micah 7:18-19 “Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – Q&A #42 Q. How is the Word of God to be read and heard? A.
