But what has happened to this God-given longing for greatness is that it has been corrupted by sin in two ways: it has been corrupted into a longing not to be great, but to be known as great…[and] to be greater than someone else. - John Piper Jesus declared that true greatness is shown not by how many serve you, but by how many you serve. - David Guzik A child represents someone who is dependant, someone who needs help, someone who is vulnerable, someone who needs protection, someone who needs to be received not to be rejected or driven away. Biblical humility is about serving, receiving somebody in Jesus’ name - it is about loving others like loving oneself. - Samuel Son Jesus warns, that if people who are puffed up with knowledge, puffed up with their status in the Church, use their arrogance to cause the simple Christian to stumble, that that person is exposing themselves to great chastisement from the Lord. - R. C. Sproul
Presider: Jason Ju Preacher: David Choi CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 13:1–7 1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. 2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. 4 Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the Lord? 5 There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. 6 You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge. 7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news of the forgiveness of your sins! Psalm 32:1–2 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – Q&A #37 Q. How does the Holy Spirit help us? A. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin, comforts us, guides us, gives us spiritual gifts and the desire to obey God; and he enables us to pray and to understand God’s Word. Ephesians 6:17–18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
