“Although the religious teachers may have rejected him, the crowds did not; sometimes ordinary people can see what the theologians are blind to.” D.A. Carson “it is sad that this great truth should be denied by any of the children of men, who may have the benefit of it, when a confession of it has so often been extorted from devils, who are excluded from having benefit by it.” Matthew Henry “First, the apostle was to be one who had known Jesus during the days of his earthly ministry and had been a witness of his resurrection . . . the second requirement was that Jesus had chosen the apostle for his unique role and task. As part of this he promised a unique giving of the Holy Spirit so that they would remember, understand and be able to record the truths concerning his ministry." James Boice

Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly! 2Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King! 3Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre! 4For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. 5Let the godly exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their beds. SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Hear the good news of the forgiveness of your sins! Romans 8:1 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The New City Catechism – Q&A #18 Q. Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished? A. No, every sin is against the sovereignty, holiness, and goodness of God, and against his righteous law, and God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them in his just judgment both in this life, and in the life to come. Ephesians 5:5–6 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
