Welcome to LMS Nursery
Literacy: encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems and other written materials), to ignite their interest. Mathematics: providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, and to describe shapes, spaces and measures. Understanding the World: guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment. Expressive Arts and Design: enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, aswell as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through activities in art, music, movement, dance and role-play.
The Curriculum
The Three Prime Areas of Learning and Development
Personal, Social and Emotional: helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings.. Communication and Language: giving children opportunities to experience a language rich environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves to speak and listen in many different situations. Physical: providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. To help them understand the importance of good personal care and to make healthy choices in relation to food.
When your child starts with us in Nursery, they will join the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which provides a broad, developmentally appropriate and flexible curriculum, catering for a wide range of needs and abilities. The children access the curriculum through practical experiences and structured play activities, both in the indoor and outdoor environment.
Further Specific Areas of Learning and Development
It is helpful if you can encourage your child's independence on arrival by supporting them with coats and bags, and helping to find their name card to put on the board before you leave. Please ensure that all uniform and footwear is clearly named. We aim to use the outdoor environment daily so your child will need an outdoor coat, waterproof all-in-one and Wellington boots please. Please provide gloves or mittens and hats in winter and in the summer, please provide sun hats and apply 'once-per-day' sun cream. We provide a morning snack of fruit and an afternoon snack of bread or crackers with various accompaniments and milk or water to drink. Water is available in the classroom at all times for your child to access independently. A hot lunch is provided and the children are supported by the Nursery staff in the school dining room. Please advise of any allergies, preferences or dislikes; our lunch menus are available to view in each classroom and online.
Sickness and absence
Collecting your child
Getting organised
We understand that this may be the first time that your child has spent time away from you. All children and families deal with these situations differently, so we will work with you on an individual basis. Our expectation is that you stay with your child for at least one taster session, arranged prior to their start date; it is important for your child to see that you are comfortable in this environment too. This would normally last for around an hour and gives you the opportunity to explore the setting with your child, time to talk to staff and ask any questions you may have.
We can only administer medicines that have been prescribed from the Doctor, you will be required to complete a medicine form at the school office. Please do not send children back to school after a bout of sickness or diarrhoea until they have been clear of symptoms for 48 hours. In case of absence, please notify the school via email or by telephone. If you have any holidays or planned absences booked, please inform the school office at your earliest convenience.
Morning Crèche - 7.45am - 8.30 am Morning Nursery (for both sessions) - 8.30 am - 11.30 am Afternoon Nursery 12.30 - 3.30 pm After School Club 3.30 pm - 6.0 0 pm
If you intend for someone other than yourself to collect your child from school, then please notify the school office so their name can be added to our authorised collection list. Similarly, if your child needs to go to Morning Crèche or After School Club, please book in advance so that correct staffing ratios are in place. At the end of your child's Nursery session we will usually be gathered on the carpet area to say our goodbyes; once finished, please come into the classroom to collect your child. Please feel free to make an appointment to see your Key Person at any time if you have any worries or queries. If your enquiry is urgent, please speak to any member of the team who can communicate with other staff as required.
Please note due to COVID 19 restrictions, we are temporarily not currently offering our parent accompanying tasters. Drop offs and collection will be from the school gate, as oppose to from the classroom at this time.
