LIVIT ORTHOPEDIE
Figure 1:
Pré-Skin is the first antibacterial silicone wrist-hand orthosis line in the Netherlands. The silicone composition, developed by Livit, contains molecules that inhibit bacterial growth. This keeps the brace free of unpleasant (sweat) odors and is friendly to the skin, promoting both wearing comfort and therapy compliance.
Research shows that 99.9% of the bacteria were killed, even with repeated contamination.

Livit has started working on a new silicone composition that preserves the positive properties of this material without causing any odors or possible skin irritation. By adding antibacterial material to the silicone in the correct ratio, the optimal result was achieved.
skin-friendly silicone orthosis
Pré-Skin: the first antibacterial silicone wrist-hand orthosis
Wearing an orthosis (also known as a brace) can give a patient a lot of support or relief when moving, for example, as part of a rehabilitation program. Whether the intended result of the use of the orthosis is achieved depends, to a large extent, on the patient's compliance with the therapy, i.e. whether they wear the orthosis according to the agreed wearing schedule. An orthosis should, therefore, be as comfortable to wear as possible and cause minimal irritation to the skin. Silicone is an excellent material: supple on the skin and strong enough to provide the right support. Silicone orthotics are also worn close to the skin, causing excessive sweating and bacteria, which can cause odor and skin irritation. With Livit Pré-Skin, that is now a thing of the past. Extensively tested Before Livit finally incorporated the new composition of the silicone into their orthoses, several laboratory tests were carried out. The research done shows that 99.9% of the bacteria were killed, even with repeated contamination, both in the medium and long term. This research was conducted by an independent accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025) that was commissioned by Livit to conduct a sustainability and effectiveness test of the antibacterial effect. The full test report can be requested from Livit Orthopedics. The first positive results At the moment, a large number of Livit customers are wearing orthoses from the Pré-Skin line, including Mrs. Veren. She wears an orthosis due to osteoarthritis of the wrist and thumb. Because she has been suffering from eczema all her life, all the wrist-hand devices she has used so far have caused considerable itching. It was often not possible to clean the orthoses properly on a daily basis because the materials used were not suitable for this purpose. The Pré-Skin antibacterial silicone OPH offers her a solution that does not cause additional skin problems. Chronic skin problems are a growing issue for the Dutch 1.2 Million Dutch people suffer from chronic skin diseases, such as eczema and psoriasis. This number is growing steadily. There are two forms of eczema: constitutional eczema that originates internally due to unknown causes and can become chronic, and contact eczema that occurs because the skin comes into contact with a particular substance. In addition, 1 in 100 Dutch people suffer from excessive sweating. Main regions are the palms, soles, armpits, groin or face. Eczema can be aggravated by sweating and heat and is, in addition to unpleasant odor, the most common complaint about wearing an orthosis. It is even reason enough to stop the brace therapy. The Livit Pré-Skin line offers a solution for these complaints and thus contributes to the patient's therapy compliance. Livit expects to achieve many positive results for its customers with this line of orthoses. In addition, a Pré-Skin orthosis is covered within the agreements of the health insurance companies.
