Connect personal and professional values with a student organization such as Spirituality & Social Work. Meet with academic advisor to discuss career options within the field of social work.
Learn about health disparities and create positive change by joining Health with Hearts. Consider taking a foreign language course as an optional general elective. Visit the Office of International Education to learn about study abroad and global engagement opportunities. Meet your Undergraduate Student Leader and reach out to them with questions.

Transition from BSW intended to BSW major*. Take courses to complete a minor, such as Diversity Studies or Substance Use Treatment. Check out the library's social work course guides and subject guides for help with assignments. Explore a variety of social issues and social work career paths with electives like School Social Work, Green Social Work, Military Social Work, or Inequities in Incarceration.

Familiarize yourself with your sequential degree plan. Attend UTA Freshman or Transfer Orientation. Complete your BSW-Intended SOCW courses: SOCW 2361, 3300, 3305, 3307, and Math 1308. Elevate your learning by applying for the Honors College. Apply for scholarships. Attend BSW orientation.
Speak with the Office of Undergraduate Research or talk to a professor about research opportunities. Contact the Center for Service Learning for experiential opportunities and enroll in a SOCW course that offers service learning. Practice self-care by joining a Wounded Healers meeting.
Apply for a field placement in the semester prior to beginning field. Take on a leadership role in a student organization such as African American Social Workers Student Alliance. Attend the Career Fair to explore post-graduation career opportunities. Aim for acceptance into the Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society. Consider applying for Title IV-E funds to receive a stipend for a child welfare field placement (internship).

Learn about a fast-growing field and volunteer with older adults with the student Gerontology Organization. Leave a legacy and improve the BSW student experience by joining the Social Work Council. Attend speaker series, social work career panel, and special events. Gain leadership skills as an Undergraduate Student Leader. Broaden your horizons by attending a Students for Global Change meeting or studying abroad in Belize through SOCW 4350.

EDUCATE
Complete most or all of your course work before entering field placement (internship). Consider applying to the UTA MSW Program; maintain a 2.5 GPA to graduate and a 3.00 GPA to enter MSW with advance standing status. Apply to graduate. Register for Commencement ceremony.
Meet with the Career Development Center to update your resume. Complete your Field Placement (internship). Identify a faculty or staff mentor you can stay in touch with after graduation. In your final semester, secure a Dean's letter for early application to take the LBSW licensing exam. Join professional social work organizations such as NASW.

Explore workforce skill development through on and off-campus activities. Engage with the UTA Career Development Center. Meet with a career consultant. Network with employers. Apply for on-campus employment. Join Handshake, our career services platform. Participate in career development programs. In addition, students must complete a field placement with 480 hours of supervised practice experience at an approved partner agency. Most students pursue social work licensure upon graduation; however, this is not required within the major.
