It is the end of the year. Congratulations to all of our fall graduates! The fall terms are over, graduation is Saturday, and in a week or so we will be celebrating Christmas. Your hard work and dedication have paid off. Don’t stop there, however. Lifelong learning is a way of life. It keeps us young and it inspires innovation. So, I encourage you to continue the pursuit of learning. The Mission of UIW states, “the university cultivates the development of the whole person and values of life-long learning.” As an alumnus please live up to this desire. You started the journey of getting an education, and I hope we have instilled in you the desire to continue it. As you do, you will develop further and learn more. In his book, The Roving Mind, Isaac Asimov wrote, “Knowledge is indivisible. When people grow wise in one direction, they are sure to make it easier for themselves to grow wise in other directions as well. On the other hand, when they split up knowledge, concentrate on their own field, and scorn and ignore other fields, they grow less wise -- even in their own field.” Seek out answers and explore “What if?” Lifelong learning is a continuous trek to know new and different things.

connect
Tis the season to serve, to connect, to give, to celebrate, to educate, and the School of Professional Studies students, staff, and alumni have done just that. Here are some of the highlights!
SPS and the Elf Louise Project
The Elf Louise Christmas Project is dedicated to providing a little bit of joy to Bexar County’s less fortunate children by way of toys for Christmas. Members of our SPS Admissions and Student Success teams spent a little time assisting with the gift check-in.
What's better than a great networking party? A party with a great cause. SPS partnered with the THRU Project, a nonprofit that supports San Antonio foster youth as they age out of the foster care system, to raise awareness and to support their efforts.

SPS Graduate Receives A Big Surprise on Their Special Day
Graduation Day - there is nothing quite like it. The sea of graduation caps and gowns, the big smiles you find on the faces of each graduate and their families, and the University administration and staff that come together to extend their most sincere congratulations and well wishes. There is nothing quite like it. On Saturday, December 15, hundreds of graduates from the School of Professional Studies walked the stage to receive their respective degrees. Here are a few pictorial highlights.
Master Sgt. McNeil waits backstage at the Freeman Coliseum to surprise his wife.
Attendees of the UIW Fall 2018 Commencement Ceremony were witness to a very heart-warming moment. SPS Graduate, Heather Jo McNeil, received a wonderful surprise as she walked the stage to receive her Bachelor of Science degree. After a 13-month deployment, Master Sergeant Nathan McNeil met his wife on stage with a bouquet of beautiful flowers. His early arrival was a complete surprise to her and their children. Their story was featured on several local news outlets including KSAT 12, KENS 5, and San Antonio Express-News.
