Helping meet community needs
Done out of concern for the well-being of the community
Learning about civic responsibility

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Tuesday, November 27 was Giving Tuesday. They describe themselves on their website as “a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.” They raised over $300 Million in over 150 countries. The power social media commands is surely impressive.
The Mission of UIW is one of social justice, caring and giving back. Community service hours are a graduation requirement for all undergraduate students. These hours help fulfill the UIW Mission, but they also help the student in ways that may not be realized. The classroom cannot give one all the educational experiences needed to be a well-rounded person. The Mission is to develop the whole-person and to that end the requirement is to get people involved in their community and grow through those experiences. As an active member of your community you are helping to form a better place for your children.
Benefits of community service and giving back will be felt in your career as well. When you meet new people you are building a network that will last a lifetime. A network of like-minded people who help support our ups and downs as we live our daily lives.
I invite you go to our Facebook page and tell us how serving your community has benefited you.

A word from our Dean
Meet the Mission is organized and sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, under the leadership of Sr.Walter Maher, and is held every September.
On Meet the Mission Day, UIW students and staff engage the greater San Antonio community with service. Since the first MtM Day, the event has grown to see over 200 members of the UIW community deploy to over 25 Community Partner sites to perform service projects on a single day.
This year, the 13th annual Meet the Mission Day will take place on Friday, September 14th, 2018, and we will start and end the day at the McDermott Convocation Center in two waves beginning at 7:30 am.
This is a great opportunity to connect with other members of the UIW family and community.

uiw homecoming & military appreciation 2018!
honoring our brave men and women
The 2018 UIW Homecoming & Military Appreciation Game was a major success as the Cardinals defeated the Sam Houston Bearkats, 43-26, in front of a season-record crowd. In addition to a great win, members of our UIW Community who also served or currently serve our nation were honored in a special appreciation ceremony. We love and support our military!
Frost Bank also becomes the title sponsor to all UIW military appreciation games. The football game against Sam Houston on Nov. 3 will be known as the Frost Bank Military Appreciation Football Game. This game will also be UIW's homecoming game. Click here for the full article.
Frost Bank and UIW Athletics have partnered together to create the UIW Athletics Salute to Service Program. This partnership provides free entry to all UIW sporting events for all military members, both retired and active. Each military member can claim up to four tickets per event by contacting Adam McKenzie at email@example.com.
