There are several key reasons why this expansion at Kirby is essential. The growth of Kirby Medical Center in recent years has been extraordinary. And, to make sure we continue delivering quality, compassionate care, we simply need more space to provide existing services and programs and the ability to start new services you need.
In addition, it’s important to plan now for the future. By positioning ourselves for growth down the line, we are ensuring that care stays close to home for you and your family.
We hope you’ll join us as we embark on this exciting new chapter in Kirby’s story. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at (217) 762-2115.
Thank you for your support!

A Message from Kirby CEO
In Her Own Words:
“Most people know that an unexpected event can change your life, but we don’t always realize how the professionals we encounter can change the experience from devastating to tolerable—even hopeful.
When a wrong turn sent me tumbling, I instantly knew that I needed help. The 911 operator kept me on the phone until the EMT team arrived to provide the assurance, advice and expertise to get me to the right place.
Luckily, the team was composed of Kirby Ambulance EMTs Duane Linton and Jesse Redshaw. Having seen this type of injury before, they helped me make the decision to go to Carle Trauma Center, which saved me hours of delay and unnecessary pain. Their constant conversation and attention during the trip was reassuring and greatly appreciated, while they professionally went through the protocols and kept in contact with the destination personnel.
Such performance demonstrates the high level of training and experience they have reached, but they went “the extra mile,” giving me good advice about what was ahead of me and how to handle it.
If there is some kind of award for outstanding service, I would whole-heartedly nominate Duane and Jesse, and advise anyone needing a competent EMT crew to ask for them when the need arises.”
When You Need It Most
Kirby Medical Center is proud
to provide local healthcare and emergency medical services.
We know that they make
all the difference for the communities we serve.
Of course, you hope that you’ll never have a medical emergency, but knowing you can get the quality care you need, when you need it, offers peace of mind – especially in a stressful situation.
When local resident Edwina Finet had a painful fall this spring, she experienced first-hand the importance of local, quality healthcare, and how a couple of compassionate and “comedy team” EMTs can provide relief and support in more ways than one.
Edwina was in the kitchen, getting ready to take her granddaughter to gymnastics. When she tripped and fell into an awkward position between the island and oven, she knew it was serious.
“I knew that there was something seriously wrong because of the pain.
I thought I might have dislocated my hip or something, and I was in severe pain and could not walk or put weight on that leg,” Edwina says.
After dialing 911, two EMTs, Duane Linton and Jesse Redshaw, arrived on scene quickly. They were able to gently slide Edwina from the cramped position onto a gurney for transport to the hospital.
Edwina remembers during her trip in the ambulance, “Every bump on the road was painful, but the Kirby EMTs were very sympathetic and apologized, even though there was nothing they could do to prevent it.”
Although Edwina preferred to be taken to Kirby, the EMTs advised her to choose Carle Hospital, explaining that if surgery was required, she’d need to go there anyways. As Edwina says, “They gave me great advice and were patient as they explained everything to me to help me make my decision.”
Edwina was diagnosed with a broken femur, right below the hip. She needed surgery to place a rod from hip to knee.
After surgery at Carle Hospital, Edwina was ready to be transferred back to Kirby for further recovery. She made a special request for Kirby Ambulance to make the transfer, hoping she’d get to see Duane and Jesse again. At first, staff were hesitant to make the call, but at Edwina’s insistence, Kirby was summoned.
“I was so happy that the EMTs that picked me up were Duane and Jesse! This was a huge relief and gave me the opportunity to thank them for all that they did. The ride back was much more enjoyable. I enjoyed the ‘comedy team of Kirby’ and think they are super sweet guys,” Edwina says.
Thanks to Duane and Jesse’s good advice, compassion and humor, Edwina received the support and care she needed. When asked if she would recommend Kirby’s EMTs to others, Edwina says, “Absolutely! Without a doubt, they were fantastic.”
