IMPORTANT GUIDE TIPS:
Video Assignments and Virtual Classroom enable experiential learning and soft skill development at scale. With their proprietary video technology and powerful feedback capabilities, these tools provide:
Direct video evidence of competency
There are significant gaps between the skills workers possess and the proficiency level employers expect from them. Individuals need skill-building opportunities and timely feedback to close these gaps, but it’s difficult to scale these practices using traditional methods. It’s time to assess competency through a new lens.
Continuous learning opportunities
Scalable soft skill development
Multi-level engagement

Because I use [Video Assignments] as a rehearsal tool mostly, students are far more prepared to give their speeches
Individual Assignment helps individuals build communication and critical thinking skills as they continuously practice, self-assess, and deliver video presentations.

Question & Answer (Q&A) puts individuals on the spot to answer questions asynchronously with only a limited time to respond.
With Video Assignments within D2L, we can set up the question structures, we can set up the content, we can have more control over what we want to see and really assess our student learning outcomes.

Video Assignments help evaluators finalize all of the work individuals do with its comprehensive review process. Formative assessment capabilities like self-assessment, personalized feedback, and peer review maximize the potential for improvement, while summative grading options give evaluators a way to assess every individual’s comprehension level.
Choose between flexible grading options like letter grades, five-star ratings, or customizable rubrics.
Provide personalized feedback via time-stamped video and text comments.
Leverage a patent- pending review system to ensure every individual receives the same amount of feedback.
Enable self-assessment on various assignments to give individuals a chance to reflect on their work.
Text: Simply start typing the moment you have feedback to share.
Video: Click the camera icon to start recording a video comment.
After reviewers leave a comment, the feedback syncs to that particular point in time and is viewable by the individual when they rewatch their recording.
SyncComments - When reviewers start leaving a comment, the video automatically pauses. Reviewers have two ways to leave SyncComments:
Effective feedback has the ability to improve not only comprehension, but also an individual’s desire and motivation to learn.
Once individuals submit a recording for one of their Video Assignments, reviewers have the ability to deliver personalized feedback and coaching on that submission. All the feedback individuals receive is time-stamped to a specific point within their video, enabling reviewers to point out exactly where their strengths and weaknesses are. We call these SyncComments.
Rubrics are completely customizable and can be imported as a CSV file. The system generates a grade from the rubric based on the point values you assign to each category. Regardless of grading type, all scores sync with the gradebook in your LMS.

Along with personalized feedback capabilities, evaluators also have summative assessment options. Just pick the format that suits you best when creating the assignments. You can grade based on:
Auto-Pass

- Keith J. Topping
As students identify facts, errors, and the overall message in a peer’s assignment, they develop cognitive and metacognitive skills such as self-awareness, critical thinking, and accountability.
Balanced Peer Review - Video Assignments feature a patent-pending peer review system where individuals receive a set number of peer reviews that automatically populate. This means individuals can’t choose who they review — eliminating the bias that might come with reviewing friends — and ensures every individual receives the same number of reviews.
Access rubrics when evaluators use them
Leave SyncComments via text or video
On every Video Assignment, there is a toggle available to enable peer review, which occurs post-submission. Individuals have many of the same capabilities as evaluators when reviewing their peers. They are able to:
Provide a five-star rating
Both of these activities give individuals an opportunity to see what others do well, reflect on their own recording, and apply that insight to improve going forward.
Because self-assessment gives individuals more control over their learning, they often feel a sense of empowerment.
Post-Submission INSTRUCTIONS - After individuals submit a video, there is also an option to provide post-submission instructions. Evaluators often use this space to provide examples of what a well-executed presentation looks like, or to explain how they want individuals to complete their peer review exercises.
Self-assessment is available on certain Video Assignments both pre- and post-submission. Not only do individuals have an opportunity to reflect on their videos and re-record them in specific workflows, but they can also assess their own performance based on a rubric post-submission. You can enable this feature in the advanced settings of assignments you grade with a rubric.
