Alyce Morris Winston CEO and Founder
Dear Friends, We've got some exciting news! During October 2021, The Jeffrey Foundation will be contiinuing classes for the High School program (ages 14-22) at our NEW address, 5443 W. Washington Boulevard. Our phone number remains 323.965.7536. Our emails will also remain the same! We've also created a new website (at thejeffreyfoundation.org) which showcases our remote online learning programs through Special Child USA. Currently online, we offer activities such as Sing-A-Longs and StoryTime readings for children. We’re also in the process of developing programs and seeking financial support for the following areas — arts & crafts, fitness, social skills, and parenting. Individuals, corporations, and organizations are invited to sponsor individual online programs or a series of programs, for which they’ll receive title credit and acknowledgment on our website and in our press materials. Interested parties should contact me at 323.965.7536 or Maryann Spencer at 818.884.0104. On page three of this newsletter, I talk about our "Visions for the Future." The Foundation has had a robust 50 years, and while we start to plan our 50th Anniversary celebration to take place Sunday, April 3, 2022, we look for new, innovative, and exciting ways to assist special needs children and their families. The Foundation’s 50th Anniversary celebration takes place in 2022. We're currently organizing a planning committee and if you are interested, we’re assembling an ad book that will showcase our history and supporters. Please view our ad book rates on page five. I invite those interested in supporting our efforts, taking an ad, assisting with our fundraising efforts, and serving on our 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, to contact me at 323.965.7536. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Harvest, Happy Summer,
October/November 2021

The Socialization Training Program aims to prepare children with disabilities to have pre-vocational and vocational skills by increasing the number of job readiness classes taught and the number of young adults who participate in vocational activities. The parent and caregiver play an active role in participating in the implementation of their teen and young adult's individualized program plan. Through these classes, we will disseminate knowledge/information about job preparation skills, training support, and resource skills to parents and caregivers in the provision of caring for their young adults. These trainings will also address skills to manage any developmental, stress, and anger issues sometimes associated with the rearing of a special needs child. The Jeffrey Foundation's Socialization Training Program will demonstrate the quality of services concerning the child's progress. To do so, and in conjunction with standardized measures and assessments, each child's progress will be measured quarterly to evaluate significant gains in the developmental area and completion of goals and outcomes. For more information, call 323-965-7536.

As we prepare to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Jeffrey Foundation, I am remembering how we started in 1972, from the generous gift of a donor. Although he did not give us cash, the gift of the legal paper he gave us was truly amazing. Without that gift we would not have had the Jeffrey Foundation today, or all of the years of service that have been made possible from that gift, and from many others who have believed in our mission. We have had so many people, companies, donors, and board members to the nonprofit organizations and grants, which have supported us along the way! We had a plan and goals, that I envisioned and put into words, as well as a plan by a specialist and friend. I asked this friend if he could put my vision into words—and he did an outstanding job. It was called “Vision of the Future.” We have circulated it among all of our supporters—and our Board approved it, and we set out to find a building to make our dream come true. In 2019, we started out working in LA Unified Schools , and later moved into our center, growing the organization to what we are today. After about 15 years we started looking around and realized we needed more funds and started to work with what we had. More donors came to help and the result was our 50 years of programs helping our clients. Our "vision of the future" is to continue serving special needs children and their families. Now after the devastation of Covid-19—we are again trying to launch a program to help more children and families—our goal is to also serve families via remote services. We will be headquartered at our Family Resource Center across the street beginning November 2021. - Alyce Morris Winston
