We hope everyone had a great summer break and enthusiastic about coming back to school. The faculty and staff at Walsh are excited to meet all of the new 6th grade students and look forward to welcoming back the 7th and 8th grade students.
We encourage all parents to get involved in school activities, whether volunteering with our PTO, attending Two-Way Meet and Greet, participating in Curriculum Night, or coming into school when parents are invited for presentations. Your involvement is crucial in the success of your student throughout the year.
Walsh Parent News
August 27, 2017
For new families, welcome to Walsh! For returning families, welcome back!
Wednesday is Day 1
During the first two days of school we will be having PBIS lessons (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) in extended homeroom. These lessons teach and reinforce our core values (ROAR) Respect, Ownership, Acceptance and Responsibility. We show examples on how to act in hallways, cafeteria, classrooms, buses, etc.
6th grade students will have extended lunch and recess, as well as extra time to use their lockers at dismissal.
We will be conducting various safety drills during the next couple of weeks. These will include lock-down, fire and evacuation, as well as shelter in place drills.
The Parent Newsletter will be sent home monthly via the Aspen Portal. This is a change from the past. I am making this change In order to have the Parent Newsletter translated for our families.
I will be sending home a condensed text only version of activities for the upcoming week every Sunday.

Pick up and Drop Off Procedures
If you will be dropping off or picking up your child, please follow the traffic pattern. For the safety of all students, vehicles are not allowed in the circle in front of the school from 7:45 - 8:10 and 2:15 - 2:40. This will allow the buses to safely drop off and pick up students.
Parents dropping students off must use the large parking lot nearest the fields on the left. Walkers will use the crosswalks leaving the building, and the sidewalks to Brook St.
Students should arrive to school no later than 8:10, as homeroom begins promptly at 8:15. Students who are not seated in homeroom by 8:15 will be considered tardy.
Please drive slowly in the parking lot and do not text while driving. The parking lot is very active. We almost had some accidents because of distracted drivers.
At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents.

Please return emergency contact forms if there have been any changes to your email, phone number, or other contacts.
Any student interested in participating in morning announcements should see Ms. Herrmann. If there are 6th graders interested they will be paired with either a 7th or 8th grader. Ms. Herrmann will schedule accordingly.
Late buses, intramural sports, and clubs will begin the week of September 24th. Buses will be available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Buses depart Walsh at or around 5:00 PM. Routes will be posted later in September. More information on clubs will be coming in the next few weeks.

Teachers upload assignments and grades on a regular basis throughout the year. With this in mind, Walsh does not send home trimester midterm progress reports. The grades you see in these portals will be more accurate and up to date then sending home trimester midterm progress reports.
Aspen is the FPS Student Information System (SIS). You can login during the year to review information about attendance, bus, discipline, and report cards.
