BUTTERFLIES IN THE LOBBY The Day Camp kids were able to experience the life cycle of butterflies this summer in a display in the lobby. Jen Trowbridge was able to create an enclosure to feed several monarch caterpillars in August. Those caterpillars ate their fill and each formed a chrysalis inside the net. The kids loved seeing the change and transformation. Over the Labor Day weekend, the butterflies emerged and were released much to the kids delight! A huge thank you goes out to Jen for creating this experience!

YMCA MEMBER WILL RAMBERG JOINS THE GOPHER BASKETBALL PROGRAM Cook County Community YMCA Member, Will Ramberg, has joined the University of Minnesota Gopher basketball program. Our local YMCA community could not be prouder of Will as he dons #25 for the Minnesota Gopher basketball team this season! When asked about the role the Y played in Will’s athletic life, he said, “the Y is a great facility; we’re lucky to have it in such a remote community. Ninety percent of my training was at the Y, I was there every day, all 4 years of High School. I still go there now, when I’m home, to stay in shape”. Will graduated from Cook County High School (CCHS) in 2019, after an unmatched high school basketball career in which he was Cook County High School’s all-time leading scorer with 1,346 points and named all-conference his sophomore, junior and senior years. In addition, he maintained a near 3.8 GPA and was on the honor roll each year. After graduating from CCHS, Will attended McGill University in Montreal. When the Covid-19 epidemic disrupted the McGill University basketball program, Will continued to work on his game at the Cook County Community YMCA. At McGill University, Will had a well-connected coach who helped him out a lot. When Will decided to transfer to another school, his coach connected him with an assistant Gopher basketball coach. This connection, his basketball record, and Will’s mindset to always strive for confidence while competing, earned him a place on the Gopher’s roster. But Will’s accomplishments on the court and in the classroom are not his finest accomplishments. Will is known for his kindness to others, always making time to shoot around with the younger basketball players at the Y. When asked about sharing time with younger kids at the Y, Will explained , “it’s my #1 goal to inspire younger kids whenever I can. If I can inspire even one or two kids to do something great, that’s a win for me. I want to set a good example”. Will also offered some advice for those young student-athletes, “be yourself, don’t worry about fitting in with other people. Follow your own path and things will start to happen in a positive way. And remember, everything happens for a reason. Try to find little, positive things in everything that happens to you, even when you are going through hard times”. Congratulations, Will Ramberg! Go Minnesota Gophers! (Written by Sue Hakes)
