Logging Into Zoom
Thank you for your questions and support during our Parent Impact Meeting on August 28th. This meeting was on Facebook Live as well as zoom. If you would like to view the meeting please go to our Facebook page: Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon. It was also recorded via zoom. We will process the video of the zoom recording and send to families at a later time. This video will have the slideshow used in the Parent Impact Meeting.
The following topics came up frequently we would like to address:
- Absences and Tardies: If your child missed a class due to connectivity or technology issues please email their teacher and email@example.com what happened (screenshots are great if you have them). Please include your students first and last name, grade, and period if in Secondary. Your teacher will let you know any work they may have missed and attendance will appropriately update the absence. This is a new change, previously we were asking families to just email their teachers for attendance purposes. If your child was absent for a doctors appointment please send the doctors note to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- There will be a Board Meeting September 8th at 12:00 pm via zoom.
- Elementary teachers will be providing a Virtual Learning Tutorial on Tuesday 9/1 during their regularly scheduled office hours.
This will include a Google Classroom tutorial for those in need of assistance navigating the platform, including how to find materials, assignments, how to submit, etc. Any other frequently used programs may also be discussed and shared during this time.
- Additional chromebooks are available for families. If your computer situation is not working out and you would like a school Chromebook please email email@example.com.
- We are working on ways teachers can take attendance quickly so it does not go into class time.

Hello Pirate Families,
As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, we are facing new challenges due to the situations surrounding COVID-19. Athletics are directly impacted as we consider the safety of our coaches and student athletes. State guidelines must be adhered to and we are under the direction of our state athletic governing agencies (NCSAA K-8 and NIAA High School).
The following are the most recent updates from NCSAA and NIAA regarding the 2020-2021 sports seasons:
The following statement was issued August 6, 2020:
“NCSAA has elected to cancel the Fall Sports Season. We will evaluate where we are in November to discuss winter sports for January 2021.
“Owing to the covid-19 pandemic and the resultant challenges faced by NIAA member schools, the NIAA has made the following adjustments to sports seasons for the 2020-21 school year”
Winter Season Sports (6 competitive weeks):

Spring Season Sports (6 competitive weeks):

First contest may be held Friday, April 16, 2021

What does this mean for our athletics at Sloan Canyon?
While we are in a distance learning full virtual model academically, all in person practices/intramurals are canceled. However, that does not stop progress towards our 2020-2021 athletics season. We as athletic directors will be working during this time to secure coaches, complete virtual safety training for coaches/staff and get student athletes registered through National Sports ID (K-8) and Register My Athlete (9-10). We will send out more information regarding the registration process in the near future. Our goal is to have everything in place so our teams are ready to begin practice and compete once cleared to do so.
Please stress to your student athlete(s) the importance of their academics during this time! Their eligibility for participation in athletics can and will be impacted by their academic grades during this first semester.
As we anticipate the start of this school years athletics, we also understand that all of these plans are contingent upon guidelines and directives from local and state agencies. As we receive updates, we will communicate those to you.
