Happy New Year!
michael@inline.ie
Exciting times for the Linedance community here in Ireland as we head into a new year. It's all about making connections & great collaborations. Teachers & Clubs are reaching out to each other, joining forces, helping each other out, new events are being organized & new faces are visiting your dance floors and making friends. I've always said we have fantastic teachers, events & dancers here at home and my goal for the past year has been to try & bring all that together. To actively advertise the terrific dance events, spotlight our amazing Teachers & Clubs & to introduce you to the wonderful dancers who support them. The spark has been ignited & I'm delighted to report the community is stronger & more connected than ever before. Long may that continue to spread & here at DC Magazine we'll remain on hand to encourage, help & support that momentum well into the future. 2017 promises to be a phenomenal year ahead for Dancing. The magazine is always at your disposal. Anything line dance related you need help in organizing, advertising, highlighting or spotlighting simply contact us and we'll be more than happy to play our part. The space each month is unlimited so there's never a problem adding content to the next issue, and with more & more people reading it every month, as well as up to the minute news on our FB page, we'll help get your latest news out there and it won't cost you a thing.
Also as we celebrate our first anniversary of the magazine, I am well aware that there are still so many Clubs & teachers & dancers yet to spotlight & I look forward to meeting many more of you in 2017. Remember also that you don't need to wait on me! Send us in your photos, articles, teacher & Club spotlights at any time. Let us know about your Club and the people that are part of it. We really have a great community to be very proud of, so don't be afraid to show it off & highlight it! All submissions to the magazine are always gratefully received & encouraged. Thank you all so much for supporting the Teachers, Classes & Events Countrywide in 2016. I can assure you that there are plenty more great times ahead coming your way in 2017 & I very much look forward to spending time on the dance floor with you all & getting to know many more of you in the coming year. Also a Hugh THANK YOU to the columnists that help me out every month, to Valerie & My Fab Four & all the Teachers, Dancers & Choreographers who have contributed to the Magazine this year. Yessssss – we are baaaaakkkk!!! It seems so long since we have written anything. April started off as a great month, but unfortunately turned into the month from hell. One of the main cogs of the Fab Four was very badly incapacitated and it just threw the rest of us out of formation. How can we do two lines with three people – it just wasn’t right. We soldiered on as much as we could, but I’m afraid the urge to write witty retorts just wasn’t there. But thankfully that is all now behind us! The Fab Four have returned to full dancing capacity – well, almost... the formation is back but not fully back yet. Some of the dances have too many turns, so we are working on them!! But hey, it’s great to just be together again!! It has been a long summer with a lot of ups and downs. But, since August, we are back on the road. “Order has been restored”, as Brendan kindly said!! And somehow we even managed to gain an extra passenger since then. Pat seems to have taken up residence for a lot of our trips!! Is he the chauffer … the bouncer…. the bag carrier ... the fifth wheel … the distraction …?? Only time will tell…!! August, September and October were great fun and a gentle lead back to dancing. August had Limerick in Line, followed by Debbie and Frank’s weekend. Although we couldn’t quite get our calendars to work properly and still managed to have members missing for some of the occasions. September came and went in a haze, but we had a great night at Sharon Kelly’s on the 23rd – with delicious ice creams once again supplied by the fabulous Tony. Thanks again Tony!! And we must thank the table beside us, who had the most gorgeous cakes which they generously shared – stuffed-dot-com!! Oh, and the dancing was great too……. Thanks Sharon for yet another great night!!

The fab Four Roadtrip
We sadly missed Ray’s weekend in October – for which we are really sorry. Love Ray’s weekends. Great value and great fun. But unfortunately too much other stuff on. The 15th October was a weird date – we had six events which we could have attended. Imagine, SIX great events all on the same night! We had to go with Sheila’s great charity night, as it was the first to get our attention. And we didn’t regret it at all – it was a great night. We also managed to attend Maggie’s in Faughs on the 21st October. Not that you could recognise us from the photographs!! Another great night, as always. Now we are starting to sound like a broken record. But it’s true – all the events are great nights full of fun and laughter and dancing (and some even provide goodies on the tables…!!) Well, every weekend in November had something on. Barocca Boost at the ready!! Weekend of the 4th November was Nenagh with Jane and Tony and Clodagh. The Fab Four were split for this great weekend, and two of us could only manage one night for that, but we made the most of it!! Great dances, old and new. We even had Mena in Nenagh – and Tony, but no icecreams.... But Tina did teach Tony the Bunny Hop for Disco, so hopefully a reward will be forthcoming soon....!! The 11th November was Gary’s weekend in Sligo, which actually started on the Thursday for us…..and never ended until we literally fell down!! The Bar was well stocked for this weekend it’s a loooong weekend! And the Fab Four turned into the Sexy Six with the addition of Jane and Statia – which then turned into the Magnificent Seven when Rosie joined us in our Apartment. But we all had a great time – with not a single argument.........!!! Endless dancing for the weekend, but some of us managed to squeeze in a Seaweed Bath or a massage – well recommended!! The Fancy Dress Night on the Saturday was the most fantastic night imaginable. Mad Hatters Tea Party – and what a bunch of mad hatters were there!! All dressed up in their finery – some so fancy that you couldn’t even tell who they were. Hats off to the great team Gary has who helped decorate the room – it was truly magical with a lot of thought and energy put into the decorations. It was a great night. The food was delicious, the party games between courses kept us well entertained and the dancing afterwards went on until the early hours of the next day.
Not that all of us stayed up that late – some of us are getting too old for that kind of stuff!! We finished the weekend off on the way home with a radio request for the Fab Four – nothing like getting your name called out on the radio. And a few people even said that they heard it - we are famous... FAMOUS!!! Weekend of the 18th November was Michael’s Wild Atlantic Weekend in a new venue – the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point, Co. Clare. Such a beautiful place but a long drive – especially as we had the long drive the week before. Sadly we were one short for this weekend, so the Fab Four turned into the Tremendous Three!! But we soldiered on as best we could!! Definitely needed something stronger than Barocca!! The bar was restocked – hair of the dog.....!! We started off the Friday night in “silly socks and jocks” – another mad crowd who definitely know how to get into the swing of things!! Some fantastic underwear was on show.....!! And then “Decades” was the theme for Saturday night. Well what can I say... Michael’s outfit stole the night!! He definitely suited the beard....!! Unfortunately “rock the boat” was not forthcoming during the weekend due to the shortage of one member (and the fact that some people are definitely old crocks...). Hopefully next time - it’s been way too long!! There was a Fundraiser Hoedown in Ryston, Newbridgte on 19th November which we unfortunately couldn’t attend, but hopefully next time Fidelma!! So..... that led us to December where we had Pat Doyle’s charity hoedown in the Danby Lodge Wexford on Saturday the 3rd – another great night, which the Fab Four could not attend - so Tina went solo (well, Pat was there too!!). But luckily Jane, Jimmy, Helen, Joan and Maria were there to keep them company. And now we are taking a well-earned rest – just waiting for the Christmas Hoedowns to begin!! The Fab Four are all going to Jane’s party on the 17th December, but I know there are a lot of other parties that weekend. And we are looking forward to Ray’s night on the 28th December – we will need to exercise these legs after the Christmas break.
Well that’s about it from us until the next edition. Enjoy yourselves and live life to the full – it’s not until something bad happens that you realise how much life should be enjoyed. Hope you had a great Christmas one and all & enjoyed it as much as you could, but didn’t get too drunk that you forgot your steps.....!! So from all of us we wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR for 2017 See you on the dance floor soon!! Anne-Marie, Bernie, Patsy and Tina (alphamabetical, so nobody complains - reversing it next time!!) xxxx
One To Watch: Keep an eye out for Pom Poms by Fred Whitehouse, Daniel Trepat & Guillaume Richard. Fab fun dance, can't wait to try it out.

On behalf of myself and Amy, I'd like to say a huge thank you to the line dance community who came out in force to support us in our Strictly Come Dancing adventure. Dancers really rallied around for the fund raiser in aid of the Order of Malta Strictly and also donated online to us. The generosity of dancers never ceases to amaze me and we are truly thankful for all your support. We ended up coming third in the event and we had a ball. Skip to around 1:30 on the video to see the dance, you don't need to listen to us waffling on :) October was a very busy month in Kilkenny as not only did we have Strictly but we also had the fantastic Neville and Julie pay us a visit, hosted by Rodeo Cats. You couldn't meet nicer people and the dances they taught went down really well. The standout one for me was The River. It takes a bit of concentration but is well worth learning. Really hope they come over again and that they enjoyed their time in Ireland. Also this month I'd like to direct the spotlight towards Lisa Uhlemann who has just released her first choreography. Over to you Lisa!! . . .

Where to Begin? Well first things first, my name is Lisa & I was born in Germany and moved to Ireland soon after. I've just finished college in May, having studied citizenship & community studies and am now job hunting. I'm a girl guide & youth leader and also a happy & creative person . .but enough about me, let's get down to talking dance! I LOVE dancing full stop. The way the music lets me move freely, not caring how I'm judged, just being my own person. I can express myself when I'm dancing & it makes me very happy. You'll know I'm enjoying myself when you can't get me off the dance floor, it's like a second home for me. I can dance anywhere once I have the right song playing. My favorite type of dance is hip hop & I didn't think anything could compare to that. Well I was wrong, even though getting me into Line dance in the first place was quite a challenge! I went with my Mum to a class & looking at it I was thinking why would people want to dance all the same steps! (I was in my teens, for me everything was dark & besides I was going to discos!) At the time it just wasn't for me. Then in 2015 there was an easy beginner class starting up & I decided to start at the bottom and give it a try. I really enjoyed it & from that day have never looked back. I love it now, even though I've only being doing it for a year. It's like one big party after another almost every weekend with hoedowns & meeting new people at them. It's a great feeling. How did I come up with the dance to the song? It just happened! I was going through my songs one day & the song 'You sound good to me' by Lucy Hale came on. I started dancing to the beat & putting steps to the music. Everything just fell into place & it all came together in the end. Do I regret taking up Line dancing. Never! I love the people around me, like one big happy family & I love the classes I go to. I will continue to bring out new dances but all in all I do it because I just love dancing. Check out Lisa's first dance in this months 'Hot off the press' section.

Introducing - Kelly O'Connor
Dancing has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mum Trish has been dancing for most of her life so it was only natural that I would start dancing. I began dancing when I was two years old. I started with tap dancing and moved on to Irish dancing when I was 4. From there I started Line Dancing at 7 years old after going to a social in Highfield Rugby Club with my mum. She had been line dancing for a few years with Mar McCarthy in Cobh in Cork City and that's where I began my classes. I loved it from the first Grapevine. Almost 18 years later I have choreographed my first dance "Boombox ". I've always had an interest in choreography and could often be found dancing away in the sitting room to any random song. I think it was inevitable that I would create my own dance. I loved learning new dances and was always interested in the ways the scripts were written. "Boombox " was choreographed in about 20 minutes. I liked the song and found it really catchy with a great beat. I knew I wanted it to be an Improver Level dance that would flow quite nicely but still be quite easy to learn. I loved the whole creative process and could not have completed it without the help of Michael at Dance Crazy, my mum Trish, my long suffering teacher Mar & the Cobh of Cork dancers & my friends TJ & Lisa. Thanks to everyone for supporting me on this journey and I hope you enjoy dancing "Boombox " as much as I did creating it.
