“In the successful organization, no detail is too small to escape close attention.” - Hall of Fame Coach Lou Holtz You have been busy! I could not be more proud of our members and staff, who have been working hard to continue to strengthen the IADC. Through Committee work, writing, speaking, civil justice reform efforts, civic engagement, and more, our members have once again demonstrated what makes us the premier defense bar association. Since becoming president of our great association last July, I have observed the many important details that keep us moving. There are no weak areas, and a solid foundation has been laid for the future. The last few months have been particularly exciting, as we have achieved tremendous progress in a short period of time. Our Committees have hosted 124 conference calls, conducted 11 Webinars, and published 30 newsletters. Our Committee leaders have kept us informed with 11 Committee Chair Corner articles (highlighting their amazing work). We have hosted several successful Regional Meetings, and I spent quality time with members in Seattle, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Germany. Ianika Tzankova led a very successful International Corporate Counsel College in Rome, Italy, delivering a substantive program with stimulating and thought-provoking discussions. Our recently appointed tasks forces have been meeting, and we are on the verge of redeveloping our website, enhancing our marketing efforts for the organization and members, and developing new ways to attract and engage members under 45. On the subject of membership, our numbers are strong: since July, more than 100 new members have joined the IADC, and we are poised to have record numbers of First Timers and other members attend our February Midyear Meeting in Santa Barbara. The Defense Counsel Journal continues to provide excellent content, and the October edition was no exception, as it covered a wide range of issues that impact our practices and companies. The IADC Foundation makes us proud, and has recently expanded their efforts to engage in civic activities that reflect the best of us. Our leaders have jumped squarely into the fight for civil justice reform, and we as an organization have made our voices heard on issues ranging from MDL rules reform to pushing back on changes to Rule 30(b)(6) that would negatively impact our members. Our Amicus team filed 4 amicus briefs, and met tirelessly to restructure the manner in which topics for possible briefs are vetted and assigned. We initiated the “Each One Reach One” initiative last fall, and the response has been great. You will continue to receive reminders and suggestions about ways to be a part of our success. Your Board of Directors will continue working hard to fulfill our important mission in the most efficient and creative ways possible. Rest assured that your leaders are intentional about adding value to your membership, and promise that no detail will escape our close attention.

HELP THE IADC FOUNDATION WITH ITS FUNDRAISER COOKBOOK! For the IADC’s Centennial in 2020, The Foundation of the IADC plans to produce a cookbook to raise funds for the Foundation and celebrate the camaraderie, family, and friendships that are such a special part of the IADC. The details on how to submit are below: We want at least one favorite recipe from each country, state, and province in which we have an IADC member. More importantly, we want your stories and photos about the recipes so we can produce a cookbook that really represents the unique nature of the IADC. Please submit your recipe(s) no later than Monday, January 21 by filling out the form and sending it to the Foundation Executive Director Mary Beth Kurzak at mkurzak@iadclaw.org. Please read the instructions on the form and the recipe guidelines. To see an example of a submitted recipe, click here. We also are looking for IADC members, significant others, children, parents, or other family members who like to cook and would be willing to test a small number of recipes to make sure the instructions are clear. If you want to be part of our culinary test crew, please email Mary Beth Kurzak at mkurzak@iadclaw.org. Proceeds from the cookbook will help the Foundation provide meaningful support to such projects as iCivics, the UN’s Education for Justice initiative, National High School Mock Trial Championship, and more. Thank you in advance for your help! Questions? Please contact Cookbook Chair Jim Rogers or Mary Beth Kurzak.
