Freshen up with COLOR & layers
Spring is known as the season of rebirth and fresh starts, and it is always nice to celebrate its return with a new look. Two styles that are perfect for spring are adding color and layers. A trend that has become very popular in hair coloring is balayage. When your stylist balayages your hair, they use a freehand painting technique to add tones to hair that will brighten up your current color. While you can balayage your hair any color, a softer and more natural look for spring and summer would be to add tones that are a bit lighter than your original hair color so you can get a more sun-kissed look. If color isn't really your thing, adding layers to any hairstyle can add dimension and texture. Layers make hair feel lighter which is perfect for the upcoming warm months. See how to create textured layers in our Create the Look section. Calista also loves using the Perfecter Pro Grip to add movement and volume to layers. To purchase, click here.
create the look: Textured LAyers
If you don't already have layers, your hair stylist can easily add them to your style. This process involves sectioning off hair and trimming it so that the hair will fall at the right length. Your stylist may also add a bit of angle into your cut, to create more texture in your hair. To add even more definition to your layers, use Embellish Texturizing Definer. The fiber formula will allow you to shape and mold each strand to your desired style, and will hold all day long. Purchase Embellish for yourself by clicking here.

MARIA'S TIP
"Hair masks are amazing for restoring shine, body, and softness to hair. To create the formula for the Magnifessence Egyptian Clay Mask, I traveled to Egypt to find all of the best natural ingredients for strong, silky hair. I included clear henna, papyrus, rosemary, carrot root, and almond essences in Magnifessence because these ingredients naturally restore youthfulness to hair. Use once a week for incredible results."
DULL HAIR
After dealing with the winter weather for what feels like an eternity, you may notice your hair looking dull and lifeless. If hair that typically has shine and bounce now seems boring and brittle, there are a few ways you can make it lively again. One reason for your dull and damaged hair is due to more heat styling done in winter. In the warmer months you can get away with letting hair air dry or putting damp hair in a braid, but when the weather is cold no one likes to travel with wet hair. All of the heat penetrating your hair cuticles causes them dry out and break easier. Help hair stay sleek and healthy by rinsing with cold water after washing to seal the cuticle and prep for heat styling. Make sure to use a heat protectant like Silksation for a silky frizz-free finish. To purchase Silksation, click here. Another way to revive hair is by using Magnifessence Egyptian Clay Mask. This hair mask is perfect for making hair super silky because it is rich in naturally conditioning ingredients. To get this hair mask for yourself, click here. Apply the mask to dry hair and let sit for 10 mintues before washing off in the shower. See Maria's Tip for using Magnifessence Egyptian Clay Mask.

Level at Calista Grand: 2 Years in profession: 8 including school Why did you get into the industry: When I was in 3rd grade, the girls in my class would play with each others hair after recess. One day, someone brought a comb and rolled it up in my hair to "create curls". The comb got stuck, and my teacher told me to go to the nurse to get it out. The nurse wanted to cut my hair at the root to get the comb out, but I never let it happen! My dad picked me up from school and when I got home, he used a handsaw to saw off each tooth of the comb and unravel my hair. Ever since that moment I became obsessed with the idea of being a hair stylist.
Hair specialty: Vivid/Fantasy/Pastel hair color techniques, extensions, and wigs. Favorite thing to do on a client: I love people who are open to big changes in any form. I change my hair color constantly, because why not? Color is probably my favorite, but anything that has to do with creating a new look, count me in! Favorite tip: Dry shampoo!!!
