CALL FOR VIDEOS
Sunday, September 20 marks 200 years of Asbury First as a pillar of God's love in our community. We would love for you to share your experience with us! In 30 seconds or less, tell us what Asbury First means to you or about your favorite memory, then upload your video here
to be a part of the 200th celebration. Record a video of yourself in which you share what you love about Asbury First. Maybe it is what brought you here to Asbury First, maybe it is what made you stay, or it is a favorite memory or relationship. On September 20th, we are going to try and share these videos in a special way. Please watch the short video to the right to see a few examples. We also ask for your help in soliciting videos from others who have been part
of Asbury First. Maybe you know someone who moved away or want to include a person you grew up with in the church.
We would love to know that they are out there and we would appreciate your help in reaching out to them.
Our goal is to be together in spirit on our anniversary, even if we can't physically
be in the same place. We are excited
to hear from you all and learn about the experiences from the amazing community that makes up Asbury First United Methodist Church.

Susan Huppé
After many years of faithful and dedicated service to Asbury First, Susan Huppé has decided it's time to retire from paid music ministry. Please read her message below. "After 35+ years in the church music field, it is time to give my vocal cords a rest. This decision is a result of some very serious soul searching over
the past year.
It has been an unbelievable privilege to serve
at two different Episcopal churches in Washington, DC, and here at Asbury First. I feel that
I have been given
so much more than
I gave — in teaching, friendship, and music. Asbury First is my home, and will continue to be. I look forward to watching the live stream, joining the congregation when we all return,
and hopefully the occasional work with the choir as a substitute. Words really don't suffice at this time, but know that this is not goodbye, it is simply a shift in where and how I devote my energy. Much love to you all, Susan." On behalf of the entire staff of Asbury First,
I offer my sincerest thanks to Susan for her unflappable collegiality, warm manner, exceptional musicianship, and humble service. I'm sure you all join me in thanking Susan for her many gifts of self during her long tenure.
I look forward to Susan's continuing involvement in the life of the congregation, and to her continuing friendship with all of us. I'm sure you all join me in thanking Susan for her many gifts of self during her long tenure. Susan will continue singing with the quartet until a new Alto/Mezzo soloist has been hired. — Carl Johengen, Director of Music Ministry

Summer in Review
Garden Committee Update
The Garden Committee is continuing to do a good job of maintaining the campus gardens during the pandemic ... regrettably the congregation is not getting to see them. The garden in front of 1010 East Avenue was originally envisioned and started by Anne Justus and Karen Hibbard, and has been expanded through Memorial Gifts and other plantings. Carol Hardy has done a great job of caring for it and recently Barb Denigris has joined her to help out. There is a beautiful patch of irises donated by Norm Welch in memory of his wife Kathy. — Bob Schuman

This summer we had to switch to a virtual Staycation Bible School. It was different
from what we envisioned, but we hope you enjoyed learning about life in the 1820s! Here are a few posts and submitted images from your experiences.

Our Guests
This is one our homeless guests (above). I'm trying to get him into treatment. He wanted me to take this picture of him to send to his mother. He took off his mask for this photo and is holding a pair of socks that I just gave him. I gave him a sleeping bag as well. He had a very good job with the post office, but couldn't maintain it because of his addiction. I'm in contact with his mother who is desperate to get him help. I am working with him as much as he will permit. He comes daily for food. This is just one example of who we are helping and why we are here. — Michele Cooley, Director of the Dining & Caring Center
