As stated in the 2018 Parent Handbook, student arrival is from 8:30am. The safety of all children in our community is a priority for us at St Michael’s. Supervision in the morning does not begin until this time. Please contact our Catholic Out of Hours Care on 0419 554 302 if you require supervision before this time.
COSHC offers a before and after school program for primary school aged children conveniently located with the school. COSHC is run by experienced and qualified staff, with close links to the school and the local parish.
We ask that you are mindful of our neighbours during arrival and dismissal times. Council Rangers are vigilant in the surrounding streets with regards to parking and littering. Please help to keep our wider community clean and safe.

Remember the Book Fair begins next Wednesday after school in the Library. Take advantage of buying some great books, and continue to build your children’s love of reading. Thank you to Mrs Buhagiar for organising the Book Fair.
The Challenge closes on 31st August. Students are to finalise and upload their Student Reading Records by this date. Thank you to parents for your assistance with this matter.

Love One Another
There is an obvious connection between Sunday’s Gospel and the sacramental celebration of Eucharist. Jesus describes himself as living bread and then says whoever eats this living bread will live forever. These words capture the essence of the Church teaching about the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Jesus is present in several ways at the celebration of Eucharist, particularly present in the bread and wine that become his body and blood; in the priest; the scriptures and in the people gathered. Through our celebration of the Eucharist, Jesus offers us his continuing, enduring presence.
We will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on Wednesday at 9.30am in the church. Everyone is most welcome to attend.

FROM THE LIBRARY
Next week is Book Week when schools all over Australia celebrate the wonders of books. The theme for 2018 is “Find your treasure”
At St Michaels we have several exciting, fun events planned.
Book Fair: Once again, books will be provided by Central Coast Book Suppliers. They will bring a great range of picture books, novels and non-fiction, all at very good prices. Come along and shop for birthday presents and some to put away for Christmas.
The Fair will be open at the following times
Wednesday 22nd August : 8.30am - 9am and 3pm - 3.30pm
Thursday 23rd August : 8.30am - 9am and 3pm - 3.30pm
Friday 24th August : 8.30am - 9am and following the dress-up parade for 30 minutes.
Dress-up parade: On Friday 24th, we will have a dress-up parade when we ask students to dress as a favourite book character. The theme this year suggests the idea of pirates. It would be good if students could create their own simple costumes rather than buy something. I have some eye patches and a limited number of pirate masks available in the Library. I also have some thick cardboard which could be cut in a sword or dagger shape and covered in alfoil to resemble a pirate sword. There are lots of other ideas online.
Blacktown Zone Athletics – Tuesday 14th August
Today we have 46 athletes representing St Michael’s at the Blacktown Zone Athletics carnival. The children will be running, jumping and throwing throughout the carnival. We wish them all the very best of luck and know they will all be trying their best. Thank you to Mrs Foxe and Miss Cox who will be supporting Mrs Budd at the carnival. We will take this opportunity to wish all those students who are successful in getting through to the Diocesan Carnival next week the best of luck and will share results in the next newsletter.
St Nicholas Netball Gala Day Tuesday 28th August
Thank you to all those students who have returned their notes by the due date, any notes that have not been returned need to be bought into school along with the bus money ASAP. Thank you to those parents who have indicated that they are available to help on the day, we still require a parent to volunteer as team manager for the junior and senior boy’s teams. Mrs Budd will send notes home shortly to all those parents who have volunteered.
