Stories of the holy Spirit
COVID-19 Guidelines Our current COVID-19 safety policy is “masks recommended.” We recognize that while many people are ready to get rid of masks altogether, many others would prefer to keep wearing them. We will be respectful of both decisions as we move forward. To learn more about the new policy, visit asburyfirst.org/news/2022/3/covid-masking-update. FIRST TIME HERE We are so glad you are joining us, whether in person or online. If you’re out there watching, check in through the website or take a picture and post it on social media using #asburyfirstathome. If you're in the pews, please sign in on the red fellowship pad and pass it down your pew. Our hope is to get to know you better and help you find your place within our community. Additionally, drop us an email at info@asburyfirst.org. Need prayer? We invite you to share with us how we can be praying for you by emailing prayers@asburyfirst.org or by filling out one of our prayer cards found in the pews. All prayer requests are prayed over by our Ministers and Intercessory Prayer Team. Children We believe children are a sacred gift, and they are welcome in our worship. Children will be invited forward during worship for a Children’s Time. Following this, children ages 4 through 5th grade are invited to go with our children’s educators for further enrichment or return to their caretaker for the remainder of the service. If there is more our Children's Ministry can do, please contact Paula Dugan at pdugan@asburyfirst.org. RECONCILING STATEMENT We are a reconciling congregation and seek to be a fully inclusive church, believing that all people are God’s children. We encourage full participation in our community for all, regardless of age, race, origin, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, marital status, family structure, education/economic background, and physical/mental ability. We recognize that we hold a variety of opinions. We do not seek to erase our differences, but to journey together in faith toward greater understanding and mutual respect. We believe that reconciliation to God and to one another is central to our mission and ministry. GIVE TO ASBURY FIRST There are multiple ways to make a gift to Asbury First. *Call to Worship (Way Forward Values) Diana Carter, Outreach Task Force & Community Garden
All are invited to read the bold-faced type; the reader will read the unbolded type. Our Mission: As disciples of Jesus Christ, we cultivate hope and fullness of life. These are our values: Love: All our actions testify to our love for God and for all people. Community: We welcome a sense of community and partnership with everyone. The safety and well-being of our guests and volunteers is important to us. Sharing: God has bestowed gifts upon us and others; we share these through fellowship, hospitality, and service. Faith in Christ: As disciples of Jesus Christ, we model our lives on his words and deeds. Justice: We believe all people are equal, deserving of having their immediate needs met with dignity and their injustices and inequities addressed righteously. Stewardship: We are called to be good caretakers of ourselves, our resources, and the world God created for us all. Joy: We share and experience the promised joy of life.

The Day of Pentecost
Hymn
#393 "Spirit of the Living God"
Scripture Acts 2:1-21. 41-47 Bonnie Watson, Storehouse Tess Doerner, UR Well Cindy Malone, Keeping Our Promise
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now, there were staying in Jerusalem, God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?

Congregational Response
Members of the household of faith, I commend to your love and care this child, whom we this day recognize as a member of the family of God. Will you endeavor so to live that he may grow in the knowledge and love of God, through our Savior Jesus Christ? With God’s help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ, that this child, surrounded by steadfast love, may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.

Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine. Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.o their number those who were being saved.

Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

“Every Time I Feel the Spirit” — traditional Spiritual, arr. Moses Hogan (Refrain:) Every time I feel the Spirit movin’ in my heart, I will pray. Every time I feel the Spirit movin’ in my heart, I will pray. On the mountain, my Lord spoke, out his mouth came fire and smoke. Down in the valley, on my knees, I asked my Lord have mercy please. (Refrain) Jordan river chilly and cold, chills the body not the soul. All around me looked so fine, I asked the Lord if all was mine. (Refrain) Ain’t but one train on this track, runs to heaven and right back. St. Peter waitin’ at the gate, said come on sinner, don’t be late. (Refrain)

"Gracious Spirit, Dwell with Me" — French chant tune, arr. K. Lee Scott; words by Thomas Toke Lynch Gracious Spirit, dwell with me: I would gracious be; Help me now thy grace to see, I would be like thee; And with words that help and heal thy life would mine reveal; And with actions bold and meek, for Christ my Savior speak. Truthful Spirit, dwell with me: I would truthful be; Help me now thy truth to see, I would be like thee; And with wisdom kind and clear thy life in mine appear; And with actions brotherly, speak Christ's sincerity. Holy Spirit, dwell with me: I would holy be; Show thy mercy tenderly, Make me more like thee; Separate from sin I would, and cherish all things good, And whatever I can be give him who gave me thee. Mighty Spirit, dwell with me, I would mighty be; Help me now thy pow'r to see, I would be like thee; 'Gainst all weapons hell can wield, be thou my strength and shield; Let thy word my weapon be, Lord, Thine the victory. Gracious Spirit, dwell with me, I would be like thee!
