Message from the President Bryce munro
"My most important job as Mona Vale SLSC President is to thank all our members from young to old, new to seasoned and everyone in between. I thank you all sincerely, our club is only as good as its members"
Rob Stokes, Dominic Puiu, Bryce Munro, Michael Regan
We continue to move forward and this was another exceptional season for our club and its members. My most important job as Mona Vale SLSC President is to thank all our members from young to old, new to seasoned and everyone in between. I thank you all sincerely, our club is only as good as its members. A new clubhouse is finally a reality. In November this year we will commence the build of our new clubhouse. We will of course experience an amount of disruption and inconvenience. Our new clubhouse will be a legacy to last for generations. Well done to Jock, Ralph, Andrew and Carolyn for your dedication and hard work in achieving a fantastic outcome of a new club. On behalf of all our members I would like to sincerely thank Mayor Michael Regan and his staff at Northern Beaches Council and our hard working State Member of Parliament Rob Stokes for your support with this project. We have a brilliant list of club sponsors and supports. Welcome this season to our new sponsors, LJ Hooker Mona Vale as our new pink vest sponsor and Healthy Care who sponsor our summer and winter ocean swims. Thank you sincerely to all our loyal and wonderful sponsors. Your support is very much needed and appreciated. I attend the Board of Management meetings at Branch headquarters every two months. Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches is a great asset and supporter of all the clubs on the Northern Beaches. Thanks to the team at SLS SNB. I attended the SLS NSW State Conference last July with our nipper chairman Dave Moreton. It was an extremely well run event with lots of very good and useful information. Since then we have frequently been in contact with SLSNSW and it’s staff for advice and assistance. They are great supporters of clubs in NSW. Personally, I want to thank resigning President Dave Murray for his hard work and effort in reforming the organisation and I sincerely hope the new board continues this reform. In my opinion, apart from our continued outstanding patrol work on Mona Vale Beach , our top quality Bronze/Award training team, outstanding nippers section and our continuous rise as a strong surf sports club , the two big achievements within our club this year are the new clubhouse approval and the roll out of our member protection support and welfare policy. Our committee set a vision statement: COMMUNITY, INCLUSION, RESPECT “Safety beyond just the water’s edge”. Tess, Paula and Kerry worked extremely hard on the project and have provided a much needed policy for all our members to use. This new initiative has received high praise from SLSNSW and our Member Relations team have been involved in forums at SLSNSW to share our experience with creating this policy. Dave Moreton and our nippers team have again worked hard on moving our nippers club forward and providing an experience at nippers for everyone. Inclusion has been a real focus for Dave and our nippers and it is becoming apparent how diverse and flexible we are at Mona Vale. This dedicated hard work is providing a strong platform and bright future for our nippers moving into the senior club ranks. Jill Jackson and Paul K did a fantastic job of guiding this year’s under 14 nippers into the senior club. Thank you to all our nippers volunteers. Mona Vale is now a very strong surf sports club . We have nippers, IRB racing, Masters, board & ski and surfboat competitors. Our nippers again continued to improve with even more results and more medals. Our Masters finished 9th in the Aussie’s point score, our board and ski team competed in five Aussie finals and our boat crews continued to excel with the extremely high standard we are so used to – five finals for three medals at Aussies. We had over 35 competitors under the age of 23 at Aussies this year. I was profoundly struck by how proud our young competitors are to compete for Mona Vale. This is a huge credit to the effort and culture that our board and ski coaches – Kris and Hugh and our Boat Captain Pebbles along with the sweeps have created. Well done to all our competition team and as always a big thanks to all carnival officials and especially our officials from Mona Vale. Now most importantly and our core business – Life Saving. At Mona Vale we provide a service to the community of the highest quality. I am, on behalf of the community grateful to all our members for the volunteer hours. Our members led by Dave Campbell and Dibby are top shelf lifesavers patrolling the beach at Mona Vale. This level of quality is achieved by the extremely high standards delivered by our education team when training our members Glenn, Ross, Geoff, Steve, Carolyn, Andrew, Lexie, Paul K and anyone I have missed must be proud of everything our members have achieved. I sincerely thank you for your unwavering dedication to Life Saving education at Mona Vale. Finally thank you to our committee and a little personal shout out to Paula. Paula’s workload and commitment to our club is incredible and honestly next level. Thanks Paula. See you all in season 19/20 for our DEMOLITION PARTY, and to all our members and supporters. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Bryce Munro - President

On behalf of the committee, I am happy to present to our members and supporters this years 97th Annual Report and Financial Statements for the 2018/19 season. This has been a very busy season and I feel that we have achieved so much. It is difficult to think about where to start. Firstly, thank you to the committee members. It has been an enjoyable season working with you all. The entire committee has worked as a team and our monthly meetings have been a pleasure. I would like to thank Tess for her commitment to the Member Relations role. Tess has really done an amazing job over the past couple of years. Tess has always been willing to help out whenever asked. Because of her work the club newsletter and member relations team will continue to be a success. I would also like to thank Kerri Brown for her work and assistance with the club website. Together Kerri, Tess and I have successfully completed the Members Support & Protection project which was much needed. Finally, thank you to Greg Hyde. Greg is a very resourceful and helpful person and the office and member registrations are in great hands. On behalf of Mona Vale SLSC, I would like to thank the Sydney Northern Branches Branch Sponsors, ICMS, Streets, URM, Northern Beaches Hospital, Dee Why RSL, Westfield, Speedo, DHL and Holdern. I would also like to thank all our club sponsors. Without their support the club could not continue to grow and be the success it is. Mona Vale's membership was 1114 this season with 229 patrolling members an increase from 219 last season. Nippers also increased from 416 up to 431. Our members achieved 160 new awards this season, of those 32 new Bronze medallions and 22 new SRC's. All these new awards make patrolling the beach an easier task for the club as a whole. Venue hire at the club has continued to thrive. Thank you to Luke & Jo from Health Space for your continued support. I know we face a difficult time without a club house in the coming year, but I look forward to a bit of a break and am excited at what we will have to offer the community in 2021. Mona Vale had an outstanding result at this years Branch Awards. We were named Club of the Year! Other awards received: Ross James - Trainer Of The Year Paula Tocquer- Administrator Of The Year Michael Wasley - Lifesaver Of The Year Zali Beuzeville- Young Lifesaver Of the Year Kris Monnock- Masters Competitor Most Outstanding Club - Member Relations Most Outstanding Club - Surf Sports Overall Handicap Pointscore Branch Titles The club received $2500, a new rescue board and a new racing board donated by Bennett Surfboards. See you all next season! Paula Tocquer - Club Secretary

CLUB SponsORS - THank you!
''Yep we can do that’’… These are not normally words associated with spending money at surf lifesaving clubs but at the MVSLSC that mantra has shifted. This is due mainly to our wonderful group of corporate sponsors that helped ‘keep the ship afloat’ again this year. Major sponsors were renewed with Dial Before You Dig, Channel 9 and The Newport hotel courtesy of the Merivale group. It was also our great pleasure to welcome LJ Hooker Mona Vale as our fourth major sponsor, and what an impact Lachlan Elder and his generous team had across the club. The nippers were offered brand new hi-viz vests in our ‘old-for-new’ swap, and many projects that had been on the back-burner were achieved thanks to a big injection of funds from the LJ Hooker guys. We also welcomed a fifth major sponsor in the guise of healthcare supplement company, Healthy Care Australia, who were eager to assist in sponsorship of major events at the club. Their assistance has been greatly appreciated. Thanks go out to all of our long-standing sponsorship partners who didn’t hesitate to deliver help when asked, and we are happy to announce all have resigned for next year. The sponsors lunch held at ‘The Newport’ was a great success and has found a permanent home, whilst there were plenty of smiling faces at the Special Needs Branch Carnival after Merivale and Rod at Mona Vale Quality Butchers stepped in to assist with all the catering on the day. On behalf of MVSLSC President Bryce Munro, Sharyn Schultz and myself, I would like to thank all of our sponsors and remind them that a lot of what we do would not be possible without their ongoing support. Matt Shrivell - Public Relations and Sponsorship
Sandra Avedissian
This has been my first year in the VP Treasurer function for Mona Vale SLSC and I must thank Ralph Stonell for his assistance and guidance in the transition. I had better introduce myself to many of you. My daughter has just completed her last nipper year in U13s and she will be participating in SRC training next season so I will become a more familiar face to many more on the beach. I work as an accountant for a local chartered accounting firm in Mona Vale. In our club, I had previously done the Nipper Treasurer role for 3 years before taking on the VP Treasurer role this year, which has been vital in understanding the ins and outs of our club’s financial matters. I am no stranger to volunteering my skills, my previous roles also include treasurer for Avalon Bulldogs for U15 footy tour; year 6 farewell committee at Mona Vale Public School and Sacred Heart Primary School treasurer for 2 years. We have embraced the one club approach and as such there is no separate nipper treasurer. All correspondence in relation to finance matters for the surf club can be directed to me using vpfinance@monavlaeslsc.org.au. I respond to emails daily. This year has gone too fast and I am happy to say, once again we have finished the year in a stronger financial position with a substantial increase in cash in our bank accounts. I must thank our bookkeeper, Jacquie Bogunovic who has been with the club for a number of years and she has really assisted me in the financial function of the club and without her it wouldn’t run so seamlessly. Also, big thank you to Greg Hyde and the wonderful Pree, plus their helpers who manage the Mona Vale Surf Club office. They collect much of the club’s revenues, managing us through the busy registration period. Greg and Pree also happily volunteer for any other adhoc projects that come their way which really takes the pressure off the rest of the club committee members and is greatly appreciated. Also, my thanks to Bill Walker and his team for completing our audit so promptly again this year. It was a pleasure working with you. This year’s profit increased to $125,253 compared to last year’s $76,309. The main contributor to this result was an increase sponsorship of $45,000 with LJ Hooker coming on board as a major new sponsor. The club was also awarded, by Jason Sprott CEO of Mates Against Melanoma, the first prize in their Sun Safety Challenge. Skye Rose organized filming of a video during a Sunday Nippers session and our club’s entry won $7,000 in prize money. How fantastic is that !! We will be spending this on equipment for the nippers in the next season. Thank you so much Skye and her team for her efforts. We also wish Jason Sprott all the best in his fight against melanoma. Responding to consumer demand, the Sunday Nipper BBQ has an EFT machine available for payments. Many parents had asked if they could use the “Tap and Go” option for payment as they didn’t take cash to the beach. Total club revenues this year were $465,177 which is an increase on last year’s $407,645 while the club maintained a steady control over costs. The main drivers of revenue were: Membership Fees $87,557 Clothing Sales $41,584 well done Kammi and her team this is an increase on last year’s $35,920 Kiosk Rent $54,297 Fund Raising $57,550 Bar Revenue $37,150 well done Mitch & Honnie plus the RSA support team! Canteen Revenue $19,022 well done Honnie, Kim, and his many helpers! Grants and Subsidies $20,178 thank you Sharyn for a job well done Hall Hire $30,122 thank you Paula this is an increase from last year’s $23,524 Donations $8,810 The balance sheet shows that cash and cash receivables have increased by $127,693 to a total of $665,111 ($505,044 club funds and $160,067 building funds) as at 30 April 2019. Asset purchases over the year were $19,854 being: Box trailer $2,772 2nd hand board trailer $1,364 IRB motor $3,159 Boards and Skis $12,559 As noted in previous years reports, as we look to the future our challenge is to maintain our growth in revenue as our club continues to grow. Supporting the community by providing a safe swimming and surfing environment on Mona Vale Beach through the development of the surf skills for our members, especially our younger members continues to be the club’s primary focus. The club house renewal project with the support of Northern Beaches Council continues to progress really well and we are hoping to have project completed within the next two years. Currently, the project is estimated to cost $6.3m with our club committing $500,000 to the fit out. The balance of the cost of the project will come from council funds and government grants. Most of these grants and funds have already been secured or allocated to the project. The Club’s Building Fund was established a couple of years ago and now has a balance of $160,067 of the $500,000. In May 2019 $270,000 from the club’s cash accounts was placed on Westpac term deposit which will be ear marked for the Building Fund. This isn’t shown separately on the balance sheet for 30 April 2019. Thank you to all our sponsors, supporters and club members who have contributed to the health of our club both financially and culturally. Hope to see everyone on the beach again next season. "We’ve been really impressed with the new Nippers that have joined us this season for their continued enthusiasm for the program as they return week after week to learn new skills , meet new friends and have fun!"
With 445 registered Nippers this season, we continued to grow our numbers making us one of the biggest Nipper programs and Carnival participants in the Northern Beaches Branch. This is a great achievement and all credit goes to the army of helpers that have assisted with this. We’ve been really impressed with the new Nippers that have joined us this season for their continued enthusiasm for the program as they return week after week to learn new skills , meet new friends and have fun! The Age Manager reports will talk to how the groups have engaged and also call out some key highlights from the season. We also welcomed a new group of Age Managers to our ranks. You, along with our Nippers, are the future of our club and we welcome the commitment and dedication that you have showed within your roles. I’m sure these thoughts are shared by all Nippers and Parents. To ensure that the AM’s we’re looking the part this year through the generosity of our sponsors, we were able to replace all AM shirts - a huge thank you goes to Aussie Home loans - Mona Vale (Olivia Lane), Step up Construction (Brett Beuzeville) and Waratah Chemists, Mona Vale (Bec & Cam Davies) for your generosity. In addition, we were also able to provide new rashies for the vast majority of club members, again thanks to our new real estate sponsors LJ Hooker, Mona Vale. All sponsors are important to the club but I would like to call out Mona Vale Quality Butchers for their continued support. The BBQ Crew have one again been awesome with BBQ’s being run for the vast majority of Nipper Sunday’s, this has only been possible due to the BBQ crew of Kim Backer Honey Harker, Mark the Tillman and Mike the Eggman. We would also like to thank the parents that have put in a shift or two to assist at some point. It’s with a degree of sadness that we say farewell to a few people from the committee, the first being Kim Backer. In addition to Kim’s great work in making the BBQ a key revenue fund raiser for the club today, he has also been the Chairman of Nippers, VP of Youth as well as being an active patrolling lifesaver. His impact on the club has been immense and we can thank him for helping put the club in its strong position today. Juli Shirdon also leaves her position as Social Secretary at the end of the season. Juli has been a long established member of the committee, but more than that she has been an age manager and admin having assisted with the current crop of U13’s since they started at U6’s. This is an outstanding achievement and shows real dedication and commitment. Juli’s forthright enthusiasm and passion for the club will be missed at Committee meetings, but we know she’ll still be playing a key role with the U14’s next year though competition and SRC. We’d also like it thank Alwynne Murray for her support as Nipper Secretary. Her detailed recording of committee meetings have been very helpful in ensuring that everyone’s on track. Similar to Juli, I’m sure Alwynne will continue to play a supporting role with next year’s U14. At this point I’d like to thank our Uniform shop guru Kammi Beuzeville , faithfully assisted by Juls Halpin for the great work they did this year with all clothing ensuring that all our nippers and competitors were looking awesome in the green and white. Pleasingly, we will have a good level of interest from a few individuals to join the committee and we’ll be in a position to confirm these appointments prior to the commencement of the 2019/2020 season. With every season, we’re so reliant on parents and new qualified SRC’s to step up and assist. I’d like to recognise a few people that have demonstrated this again this year. Kane Hannah has done an excellent job leading our Water Safety Areas each Sunday. This position is key to the running of Nippers. The surf can often be difficult to navigate and ensuring Nipper Safety is of paramount importance. Under his leadership and direction we have improved the organisation of water safety and though the support of the U14’s trainers have had more SRC’s than ever. Kane and the team have also manage to have water safety hour contribute towards patrolling hours which give due recognition to this team of essential helpers. Huge shout out to our Coaches, in particular of lead Coaches around water, Michael Wasley, Bryce Munro, Tim Woolnough and Evan Webster. Our beach coach Jason Chapman, March Past Coach Amanda Berrell, March Past Manager, Jill Jackson, and all the other people that have stepped in to cover when there’s been a need, this includes Paul Tate, Brett Beuzeville, Rob Fry, Matt Shirvell amongst others. The achievement at both Branch and State level was excellent, with our overall team placing of 20th position at State a 5 place improvement on last year. The competition team have also been supported excellently by the Carnival Managers Dom Wasley and Suzie Shirvell along with a host of Water Safety and Officals including Michael Scicluna, Steve Lane, Steve Halpin, Matt Rich, Lexi LeBlang, Alex Peasland, Adam Lynch, Nat Wilson, Bea Bray, Rebecca Hanley, Paula Tocquer, Brett Murray, Richard Garay, Jase Muller, Michele Fry, Steve Euers, Linda Charge, Sean Avedissian, Alan Montgomery and a couple of people that deserve a special welcome namely, Carnival legends, life members etc , etc.. Tony Hilliger and Rhonda Lycett. It also worth noting the the vast majority of the above mentioned people do numerous other roles for the club. The Junior State Championships delivered a truly spectacular couple of days once again this year. 63 competitors headed to Blacksmiths with Mona Vale competing in beach and water events , plus March Past, with colour party and for the first time in a while the R&R event. The winner was the team spirit and togetherness shown by all and I think this contribute to some excellent results. Whilst there we many outstanding results and personal best, special mention is reserved for our medal winners listed below. Congratulations to all competitors. Individual winners U14 - Will Collinson - Gold 2Km U9 - Tom Shirvell - Bronze Surf Swim U15 - Zach Fry - Silver Flags, Bronze Sprint Team Winners U12 - Zac Wasley & Jordi Tocquer - Bronze Board Rescue U11 - Macy Beuzeville & Indiana Cameron - Bronze Board Rescue U9 - Tom Shirvell, Jordon Scicluna, Hugh Webster, Tom Tyson - Bronze Surf Team. Now a firm fixture in the diary the Special Needs Carnival was a huge success again this season. With competitors from across the Northern Beaches Branch being joined by kids from the Central Coast and Southern Coast Beaches the day was full of smiles and enthusiasm. Again the volunteering from our members was awesome and a special call out should go out to the Wasley’s and Fry’s for organising such a special event. Another huge shout out goes to Skye Ross who supported by Michael Gencher, Ross James, Olly Heys and a full Sunday Nippers cast were successful in gaining $7000 to assist Nipper funds by producing a fantastic video to help promote sun awareness for the Mates against melanoma organisation. The cheque is due to be presented at the Nipper end of season presentation and we will communicate with members about how these funds will be channeled to directly assist our the Nippers program shortly. In this report I have tried to mention as many helpers as possible from our army of supporters, I apologise if I’ve missed anyone!! Co-ordinating this many people can often be challenging, But I would like to close by calling out the remaining members of the committee that help bring the nippers program together every season and try to make the experience as good as possible for everyone. They are a bunch really dedicated and talented individuals who do an excellent job. In addition to those members already mentioned, thanks goes to Linda Charge, Lexi LeBlang, Holly Peasland, Rebecca Scicluna, Sandra Avedissian, and Olivia Lane... you’re all awesome!, We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2019/20 seasons later this year!! The 2018/2019 season is now behind us, another season keeping swimmers safe at Mona Vale Beach and again no lives lost while we were patrolling. Our club is lucky as is it has a great crew of trainers continually feeding our roster with highly trained lifesavers. Thank you Glen Smee, Ross James, Greg Hyde, Steve Miles, Carolyn and Andrew Hjorth & Geoff Bateman for all your hard work. Our roster now has close to 200 patrol members and although managing this roster has been hard work it has been a pleasure having a turn up rate on patrol of close to 90%. IRB - Our roster also wouldn’t be complete without its IRB drivers and IRB equipment. Richard Perry always had our duck gear in tip top condition and was also a great help with training and proficiency tests. PROMOTIONS - This season we promoted 4 members to Patrol Captains. Sarah, Liam, Ollie and Zali all did a great job. These PC’s are Juniors and showed great maturity managing their patrol groups. Thank you to the Vice Captains & long time patrol members always there to help when needed. The aim is to have a much larger proportion of younger members and also more females in charge of our patrols. Currently we have 3 women Zali, Sarah and Paula and they lead by example. ATTENDANCE - This season we also avoided issuing penalty patrols for non-attendance. Instead of a penalties members were asked to see if they could offer a sub to another member looking for a swap on Facebook Patrol Swaps. The Facebook page became the place of choice for members looking for subs. There is about 180 members on this page which must be 90% of the roster. And thank you to the club competitors with the majority having 100% attendance. HANGING UP THEIR CAP - After 50 years as a member, Steve is hanging up his patrol cap. Thank you Steve for ensuring our beach was a safe place to swim every time you were on patrol. AWARDS - Congratulations to our award-winning patrol members. PC of the year Ollie Heys, Patrol Person of the year, Tom Lee and Junior Patrol member of the year, Zali. These members are typical of the professionalism of our patrolling members. They all hold multiple awards and are always looking to learn more skills . SURVEY - This season we also had our first patrol survey before the season started and before we set up the roster. We had an amazing 80% response rate. This was a great help in planning the roster. We will again be surveying all patrol members prior to setting up the 2019/2020 roster. EVENTS - It was great to see our members turning up in force at all our events to assist in water safety. We ran two ocean swims and supported at Branch , State and Aussies with IRB's. Jason Nicol flew to Queensland to drive the duck at Aussies. NIPPER WATER SAFETY - This season was our first in organising a roster for our SRC's. It was a great initiative and well managed by Kane. We look forward to continuing and this concept and for ways to improve. MOVING AWAY - Long-time member Ian Harrison is moving to the south side. Our loss will be an eastern suburbs clubs gain. Thank you for being a great Patrol Captain Ian. LONG SERVICE / ACTIVE RESERVES A final word to thank our senior members that don’t need to patrol but are happy to assist on the roster sharing patrols. This allows us to stretch the roster to 16 patrol groups. There are many of these members that have assisted in this way for season after season. THANK YOU! Dibby - Beach Captain

"The club is going from strength to strength. It certainly is a great time to be a Mona Vale clubbie"
First of all, welcome to all the new members and congratulations to all the members who achieved one or more award(s) this season. Training is not a one person role and there were a number of people who generously gave their time to help. Top of the list of people to thank is Ross James. Ross puts in countless hours running training courses and helping with proficiencies. Geoff Bateman is always willing to run an ATRC course and Jon Dibbs and Richard Perry did an outstanding job training IRB drivers and crew. Others that helped with training and proficiencies were Andrew and Caroline Hjorth, Steve Miles, Greg Hyde, Paula Tocquer, Rob Stokes, Robyn Stonell and Frank and Liam Bailey. It is with a tinge of regret that I have decided not to nominate for the role in the new season. The juggling act between work, surf club and personal commitments has finally caught up on me. I have not been able to give the role time required to do the job properly and will pass on the baton to the next incumbent. To the new trainers who achieved their training award, I encourage you to get involved in training and help the new incumbent. Remember training is not just the Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate or IRB driver and crew person, training also covers Radio Operators Certificate Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Providing First Aid Spinal Management Certificate Silver Medallion Beach Management Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue Silver Medallion Rescue Water Craft Gold Medallion Training Officer Certificate Assessor Certificate Certificate IV in Training and Assessment I encourage you to explore these and other opportunities. The best way to do this is to express your interest through the club’s website. It makes the job a lot easier if members express their interest instead of the trainers trying to find out who is interested in a particular course. Whilst training has been around for a long time it is an evolving function. The old ways of running courses are not necessarily the best way of doing so. Your suggestions are always welcome so please if you have an idea let us know. The trainers don’t have all the answers and your suggestions are more than welcome. I encourage all members to try and achieve one new award next year. In an ever changing world there is always a need to constantly update our skills. When the new clubhouse is built we will have a fantastic training room with first class equipment, this will definitely enhance the training experience and hopefully encourage greater community interest. The club is going from strength to strength. It certainly is a great time to be a Mona Vale clubbie. Glenn Smee

Mona Vale competition team have continued an extraordinary period of growth. This began with the humble beginnings of coach Marty Cowper, some 7 years previous. With his retirement the shortfall was capably picked up with continued enthusiasm of several volunteer members. It is almost impossible to list all those involved in preparing the team for competition. Except to give special thanks to the main seasons volunteer coaches; Bryce Munro, Hugh Monnock, Yanda Morison, Michael Wasley, Paula Tocquer, Beata Bray, Tim Woolnough, Evan Webster, Jason Chapman, Matt Shrivell and all the parent helpers, substitutes and fill ins. And also, within the boat area of our club, to our capable sweeps/coaches, under the guidance of our Boat Captain, Ryan Halangahu, supported by Matthew Collins, Kai Cooper, and Nathan Wilson. To all our coaching team, your time, commitment and dedication will be felt by our athletes for the term of their natural lives. A huge thanks on behalf of the whole team. With growth of the expanding team, comes more to do behind the scenes. The Mona Vale executive committee are an enthusiastic group of community minded individuals, doing a wonderful job of working together to ensure Mona Vale Surf Club continues to be a safe, and trusted community organisation. I have wonderful support from the committee towards Surf Sports. I would like to give special thanks to Noel Moran for assisting me in a large volume of work behind the scenes. Noel is ready at any moment to answer the calls for help further extending himself as a Mona Vale official. Also, Paula Tocquer my personal on-call software helpline and support. Thank you both! A note on our inspiring athletes. What an awesome group of young men and women. They are talented, focused and work darn hard for their achievements. With hardly a day away from honing their surf skills or a weekend free from competition, they continue to push themselves in the pursuit of personal improvement. Not to mention some laughs along with way. The senior team commenced their season in October with a trip north for the short course Coolangatta Gold. Mona Vale had 4 x members to form a U19 women's team, another 4 x mixed aged men’s team, then Eliza Monnock who completed the short course as a solo event in a time rivalling her teammates. Unfortunately, this was the pinnacle of Eliza’s season as shortly after she suffered a season ending injury preventing her from competing in yet another Aussie Titles. Eliza, we are proud of your resilience and can't wait for you to have the opportunity to reach your full potential. The 2018/19 season then moved onto a sprinkling of local carnivals, in preparation for the bigger dances of the NSW Open Championships back at Swansea, and then in April, to the Australian Titles at Broadbeach. Our travelling team of athletes was made up of 25 Seniors (u14’s to opens) with another 18 Masters. The list of results can be seen below but this is only the tip of the successful results from all involved. Whenever you see or hear a Mona Vale athlete at the top of their game, the cheers and hoots are the envy of any club. Not to mention we are always the best dressed club on the beach thanks to Kammi. All the athletes continue to grow in numbers, experience and maturity (mostly :) ). We work hard and support each other. Plus we have a great time as we travel together, train together and ensure fun is high on the agenda. We are proud of you all and your dedication to personal excellence. Whilst it would be nice to come home with a swag of medals, without exception, you all achieved personal bests this season. So be proud of yourselves also. To our officials and IRB support crew and parents. Thank you for your support and assistance. Whether you attended local carnivals or travelled with the team to Swansea and/or Broadbeach. Thank you. To Tony Hilliger, Rhonda Lycett and Noel Moran and Jason Nichols. Thank you for going the extra mile. The season ahead has promises of being even bigger and better. This is evident from the bevvie of awards Mona Vale received from this years Sydney Northern Beaches Branch awards. Personally, I think we won 2 of the best awards on the night, being, The Most Outstanding Club of the Year along with Most Outstanding Club for Support toward Surf Sports. These awards are a testament to all our wonderful Mona Vale SLSC members. We look forward to seeing you all again next season. I would like to congratulate our boat competition crew and supporters. IT’S A JUNGLE IN HERE The boat section is alive and well at Mona Vale. We had the largest amount of junior and under 23 rowing crews in the water in the history of the club. We filled a team in every division in the water over the season except reserve women. We introduced a lot of new members, some coming as fresh members from Mater Maria College, having to also gain their bronze medallion. A few members from other surf clubs as well as the 3rd Campbell brother to row with the green and white cap. The most important thing that came from our section was the real sense of teamwork and team spirit. There was a growth and friendships gained between all rowers no matter what division, age or sex. Jungle gym sessions every Monday night at the club helped form these bonds, as well as push every team this year, to be competitive in the water. We medalled in every Championship Event this year. This is proof that the club is still a dominant force in the Surf Boat area. Some highlights of the year include Nathan Wilson sweeping in his first ever state and Aussie finals with the Assisted Drifters. The Beastmode winning their first ever race and podium finish at the same carnival. Fluffy Ducks Sluggos, 2 x open medals at Aussies in the inaugural short course event, Kai Cooper sweeping both his crews in Aussie finals, The Sludge, State Silver in the Surf boat Relay by a whisker to Palmy. The biggest success of all has to be Kai Cooper and the Mambas winning his first Aussie Boat medal winning bronze. A massive achievement for a true club man that never gives up and a crew of young men that just get in and have a go. We now continue the legacy of not returning from the Australian Championships without an Aussie medal for the 9th successive season, this year we brought home 3! 2018/2019 CREWS Mens A Crew - Banana Farmers Mathew Chave, Nick Ellis, James Bezer, Kurt Thomas Womens Open Crew - Snow Whites Ash Watson, Taylor Henning, Yvette Giblin, Kristina Larsen, Alex Tyrell, Anrea Crevlin Mens Reserves - Chocolates Nick Ellis, Tom Nedbitt, Ian Dowling, Daniel King, Sean Needs Mens Reserves - Sludge Luke Chivers, Chris Bridge, Fraser Campbell, Ethan Farmer, Ryan Halangahu U23 Boys - Mambas Corey White, James Meadows, Jordon Grech, Jarrod Cowper U23 Girls - La Ladies Tash Cowper, Jaimee Henry, Anthea Crevlin, Grace Seaglove U19 Boys - Fluffy Ducks Lachlan Ashby, Vaughan Harding, Dane Wilson, Ben Mayor U19 Girls - Assisted Drifters Mia O'Sullivan, Amy Rose, Maddie Reid, Zali Beuzeville U19 Girls - Beastmode Johanna Brent, Emily Wise, Kanya Fahey, Annika Besley 140 Masters - Masters of the Universe Sean Needs, Kai Cooper, Ryan Halangahu, Nathan Wilson Boat Relay - 'Jungle Gym' Lachlan Ashby, Vaughan Harding, Dane Wilson, Ben Mayor, Ash Watson, Taylor Henning, Yvette Giblin, Kristina Larsen, Anthea Crevlin, Nick Ellis, Tom Nesbitt, Ian Dowling, Daniel King, Rude, Nathan Wilson and Pebbles SWEEPS Kai Cooper Rude Nathan Wilson Pebbles NOTABLE RESULTS Young Guns Beast mode – 3rd Fluffy Ducks – Finalists Ocean Thunder Snow white’s 3rd x 2 and overall ASRL Chocolate Final (6th) Branch Champships Snow Whites - 3rd Boat Relay - 3rd Beastmode - Finalists State Champs (MASTERS) Masters of the universe 140’s- 1st State Champs Assisted Drifters - 4th Snow white’s - 3rd Boat Relay - 2nd Australian Championships Master of the universe 140’s – Silver Fluffy ducks - top 12 Beastmode - top 8 Sludge - top 24 Chocolate - top 8 Assisted Drifters Finalists - 6th La Ladies Finalists - 5th AUSSIES MEDALISTS Sludge Bronze (open men short course) Snow Whites Bronze (open women short course) Mambas Bronze (23 mens)

I would once again like to thank everyone that was a part of the Mona Vale Boaties this year inside and outside of the club. A big shout out to Mr Ritchie from Marta for your ongoing support. Welcome to all the new members who joined our fraternity and hopefully you will be sticking around. Well done to all the rowers that made the sacrifice to compete at your best and promote Mona Vale as such a dominant section of our sport. All the success of our section could not be possible without Dominic Puiu and ‘Dial Before you Dig’ with their generous support. This season, as promised, was our biggest and best yet. With the largest Aussies contingent in history. Next season is again going to really bust the seams. I THINK WE ARE GOING TO NEED A BIGGER TENT! Enjoy the off season and see you on the beach next season Ryan (Pebbles) Halangahu - Boat Captain
It’s been a year of lots of new things and so many people from all through the club have come together and helped make it all work. One of the biggest new projects we launched this year was the Member Protection Policy. This was a massive achievement for the club ensuring that we are all aware of how to protect ourselves and each other and ensure that every person is supported and has someone they can go for any anything. This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the massive behind the scenes work of our Website Manager Kerri Brown, our Secretary Paula Tocquer and the fantastic Member and Child Protection team, Lisa Critoph, Michelle Fry, Robyn Moore, Robyn Stonell and Paul Tate. As part of this initiative we also developed our club values statement: ‘Inclusion, Respect and Community’ focusing on ‘Safety Beyond the Water’s Edge’ which epitomises what we are all apart of at the beach as a surf life saving club. We’ve done a lot this year to help continue to improve the clubs communication structures, with the newsletter remaining our main source of communication but supported strongly by the twice weekly e-News lead by Greg Hyde. Kerri Brown also worked hard with Paula Tocquer to re-vamp our club website which I hope you’ve all found as easy to navigate as I have. Presentation Night really pulled together what was a fantastic year with 157 people attending what was a fantastic and fun night. Zali Beuzeville and Matthew Collins (Rude) kept everyone entertained as MC’s and the number of people both there on the night and the number of recipients of new awards was awesome to see. It’s been my absolute pleasure to be VP of Member Relations the last three years and I’m looking forward to what the next person will bring to the role and to our club to make it even better than it already is.
