“Our Eudora Schools Foundation has worked so hard to make sure that they understand all the resources available within the community to help our families and to help our students. If our students don’t have their basic needs met they aren’t going to be successful in the classroom.” – Peyton Lazzo, EHS Counselor (pictured above)

A Bird's Nest Pantry is available at each of the Eudora school buildings. The Pantry has anytime snacks and take home food for students. Our schools have seen a large increase in basic needs that are impacting students’ ability to be successful. The ESF partnered with Atmos Energy, Walmart, the Eudora Food Pantry, and Just Food to establish the four school pantries in our district. Since November, the Bird’s Nest Pantries have served more than 400 students and families.

Greetings! I hope you enjoy the look and feel of our annual report. I know I will always have a soft spot for the image of cardinals in winter! When you glance across these pages, you probably notice first the faces of people. After that, the repetition of a single word. Together. It’s a potent, nuanced word. When our children are little, it represents one of our first hopes -- that they will learn to play together. When our children get older, that word carries the whisper of our own fears: stay together. Over time, teachers and coaches and pastors and employers echo the message: work together. We pour a lot of effort into imparting that value to our children. We hope they carry it with them into adulthood. When that happens -- when that value is embraced by an entire community -- I think you get what you see here in the pages of our annual report. Things get built. Opportunities get created. Good work gets done. Bringing people together is at the center of the Eudora Schools Foundation. It’s both the why and the how of what we do. On March 2nd, our Foundation Board wants to try something new with your help. We are going to bring everybody together for one day of intensely focused giving. We have a range of activities planned -- featured partnerships, competitions in schools, videos, discussions, and testimonials -- all of those things will be shared on March 2nd. Our goal is ambitious, but it is very much possible. We hope to raise $15,000. Eudora has met that challenge before. The difference this year is we’re going to try to do it all on one day. I hope you will mark the date on your calendar. We’re optimistic. Together, we can do this. Matt Bova, ESF President

Thanks to the collaborative spirit of Jason Rugg and his Bonner Springs-based company, J&J 3D Print Life, ESF was able to provide 3D pocket camera mirrors to use during online learning. This simple tool allows teachers to project a document correctly when sharing to a virtual classroom.
The following stories highlight Eudora Schools Foundation staff and donors' efforts to help our school district learn, serve, grow, give and much, much more ... together.

This donor-designated gift enhanced the collection of diversity and multicultural books in all of our district libraries. “All kids deserve to see themselves in the books they read and this donation helps us work toward that goal,” said Jill Dodge, EES Librarian. “After I read Jabari Jumps to my 4th & 5th grade students, they were commenting on how much they liked the story and how it should have won an award for its illustrations. One of the kids said, "We should tell the author that." After brainstorming ways to tell the author, it was decided to send her a tweet.

“These books - in just a few months - have made such a big impact on our kids. The discussions that our kids are having are amazing. They want these books - it is giving them a springboard to start talking to have a better understanding and a better empathy - we are so grateful for this designated donation.” – Jill Dodge, EES Librarian (pictured above)

The EHS Cardinal Corps works to affect the culture of EHS in a positive way by empowering students to be leaders in their school, district, and community. The Corps created the Cardinal Cup Challenge for all EHS students. The Cardinal Cup is a three season competition between grade levels at the high school to encourage positive interaction and behavior rewards. Cardinal Corps was started by high school teacher, Chris Dunback along with support from high school teacher, Jessica Johnson. Cardinal Corps President, Colby Lawhorn (Senior) works with a group of 40 students that plan activities such as mentoring middle school students, hosting drive-in movies, community service activities, and a kickball competition.

The Eudora Schools Foundation and the Eudora School District is pleased to team up with our middle school teachers and administrators to create engaging before and after-school enrichment programs for our EMS students. We recognize the need and importance of additional hands-on learning opportunities particularly at this pivotal time in a middle school student's life. We are thrilled to support these programs that help EMS students 1) build new skills and interest 2) develop self- confidence 3) gain knowledge from cross-disciplinary, real-world learning opportunities that support core subjects in their classroom curriculum. Enrichment Clubs range from tabletop games, to first aid, to weightlifting club, to no-bake baking club, to mentoring, to book clubs to learning about food insecurity in our community. mmunity.

“With the challenges that have went on this year, we just had to be flexible. It has taught us a lot. We can have fun activities and still social distance. Overall, there is a huge importance on the student - teacher relationships both in the classroom and outside the classroom. These enrichment clubs and activities gives some normalcy to the students and teachers. They have been important for the development and connections between the student and the teacher.” – Ty Pattison, EMS Assistant Principal (pictured below on the left)

Eudora High School students and staff now have seven flexible and collaborative learning spaces in the library.
More than 300 Eudora teachers and staff were treated to a free coffee and pastry. Community members organized this effort to recognize and show appreciation for this group during the COVID-19 pandemic. We appreciate the coordination and designated-gift by community member, Jeanette Owens, who helped to make this possible. Thank you also to Uplift Coffee for providing great customer service to Eudora staff bright and early before school.

We opened Mateo Chiropractic in October of 2006. We were not from this area but love the vibe of the “Eudora Proud” community. We are a service-focused family. Our number one goal is to take care of our community through health and wellness at the same time to give back to Eudora. We do whatever we can to support others. We are PROUD supporters of the Eudora Schools Foundation. What better way to help our children and teachers than to be a part of the Foundation’s mission? Giving children the opportunity to have equal footing, to have basic needs met, and to even have innovative enrichment learning opportunities is important and what we love to support. We have a prayer that resonates with our family and feel it is fitting for our Eudora Proud community! “Use me, God. Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than Myself.” Thank you, Eudora Schools Foundation for making futures brighter and providing the opportunity for being a part of a greater purpose. -Douglas, Shawna, Sophia and Baron Mateo Mateo Chiropractic
