Palm/Passion Sunday
11 am
To hear the word
Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, we confess that we are not so different from those who welcomed Christ into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. We have betrayed you too, Lord Jesus by our sins both secret and known. Yet you died for people like us, and you rose that we might be redeemed. For the sake of Jesus Christ, do not hold our sins against us. Help us to see your glory; draw us closer to you. Help us to become more faithful and more joyful servants of your realm.
Silent Confession
Words of Assurance
God sweeps into our human scene, redeeming all who turn from evil and do good. There is grace, mercy, and renewed strength for all who earnestly seek the new life Christ brings. God forgives. We are freed from the burden of our sin. Thanks be to God!
*Gloria Hymnal #296, v. 5
Unto God be praise and glory: to the Father and the Son, to th' eternal Spirit honor now and evermore be done; praise and glory in the highest, while unending ages run.
Scripture Mark 11:1-11
When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ just say this: ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately.’ ” They went away and found a colt tied near a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the bystanders said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” They told them what Jesus had said, and they allowed them to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple, and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. The Word of God for the People of God. Thanks be to God.
Children's Time
Children of all ages are invited to join us in this special moment.
Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Prayer
Gracious God, I come before thee, come thou also down to me. Where I find thee and adore thee there a heaven on earth must be. To my heart, O enter now; let it be thy temple now. (Words: Benjamin Schmolck, tr. Catherine Winkworth; Tune: Unser Herrscher, Joachim Neander)

"Draw Near to Your Jerusalem" — Stephen Walters; words by Jeremy Taylor (1613-1667, alt.) Draw near to your Jerusalem, O Lord, your faithful people cry with one accord: ride on in triumph; Lord, behold, we lay our passions, lusts, and proud will in your way. Your road is ready, and your paths made straight, with longing expectations seem to wait the consecration of your beauteous feet, and silently your promised advent greet. Hosanna! Welcome to our hearts, for here you have a temple too, as Zion dear; O enter in, dear Lord, unbar the door; and in that temple dwell forevermore. Amen.

“Into the Woods My Master Went” — Richard Shephard; words by Sidney Lanier Into the woods my Master went, Clean forspent, forspent, Into the woods my Master came, Forspent with love and shame. But the olives they were not blind to Him. The little grey leaves were kind to Him, The thorn tree had a mind to Him, When into the woods He came. Out of the woods my Master came And he was well content; Out of the woods my Master came, Content with death and shame. When death and shame would woo Him last, From under the trees they drew Him last, ’Twas on a tree they slew Him—last When out of the woods He came.

Church is wherever God’s people are, no matter how high the ceiling, how soft the seats, how dazzling the stained glass, we're just glad to share in worship with you. Thank you for living, loving, and serving with us!

Lectio Divina is a method of reading scripture that invites us to deepen into the words we hear and use our imagination to take us to the time of the scripture. A scripture is read, and then two minutes of silence is observed, the scripture is read again, and silence is observed, and then a time of sharing takes place. Sharing includes anything one feels moved to share about how the scripture and ensuing silence has touched them in this moment. During Holy Week, we will be offering Lectio Divina via Zoom Monday, March 25 through Friday, March 29 from 8:30 - 9 am. Please join us for all five days or just one day. All are welcome. Contact Kathy Thiel with any questions by calling (585) 271-1050 x106

From Jim Quinn, Governing Board Chair and Beth Wilkens, PPRC Chair: Many of you are understandably eager for news about the search for our new senior pastor. We continue to be in regular communication with the Bishop and District Superintendent. It is clear to us that they have been actively pursuing the search process which includes many possible candidates from around the country, some of whom were referred through us. We are reassured that the Bishop and District Superintendent understand Asbury First and our needs. They remain as committed as we are to finding the right person for us. We will continue to report to you as we move toward the next chapter for our Church.
Invest in your family's future now! Later this year we will be breaking ground on Asbury First's Columbarium project – a sacred, consecrated outdoor space on the southeastern outer wall of 1040, designed to provide a final resting place for the remains of our loved ones. Instead of buying a plot in a cemetery, one can reserve a niche for a pair of urns that will be built into the garden-like columbarium. These niches are available to all, but space is limited so reserve yours now. Stop by the Columbarium table in the Welcoming Hall after the 11 am service to learn more.
Have you wondered what goes on at the newly renovated Community Outreach Center? Here’s your chance to See For Yourself! Monthly, every 2nd Tuesday, join us for what we call 1010 TUESDAYS! Meet us at 1010 East Ave at 8 am for a simple breakfast, a brief tour of the facility, and stories about these life-changing services. Bring a friend or colleague, and help us spread the word about the Community Outreach Center. Space is limited so reserve your spot today by scanning the QR code, visiting asburyfirst.org/1010tuesdays or calling (585) 271-1050 x117.

Community We believe we are better together; fellowship and care are keys to love and life. Outreach We believe everyone deserves hope and fullness of life. We endeavor to practice mercy and work for justice in our local and extended community. Discipleship We believe we—adults, youth, and children alike—are called to grow in our faith both as a community and as individuals through education, regular worship, meaningful fellowship, a commitment to service, and celebrating rites of passage together. Generosity We believe what we have is a gift from God. We share our gifts with an open heart to help meet needs at Asbury First, the Rochester community, and throughout the world.
