Enhancing the Quality of Life
"when a person knows better they can do better. Never assume someone knows what you know. We truly know what we are taught."
The Life Obstacles team is truly amazing. They came together with one purpose in mind and that was to move people from problems to solutions. Each of the team members bring their own life experience to the table. Together they form the Life Obstacles team where problems meet solutions. This allows them to meet people where they stand and have a full understanding of how life can give you some wounds.
The team consist of (see above pic) Doreen Berts (sitting) J. R. Washington (standing) Brenda Vereen (Lt side) Gerri Knight (Rt side) Hear them as they air Life Obstacles Forum every Saturday & Sunday on WERE 1490AM & WOVU 95.9FM. When Tradgedy Strikes Home
No one knows what may occur in their lives.
We never expect the impossible to come to our door steps. For Tracy Kilgore-Norvell this is what exactly happened to her family. On April 1, 1999 her sister Kim Kilgore life was taken by her spouse. The tragic incident was unreal and left everyone devastated. Kim was such a good girl, always smiling and being a helper. Domestic Violence struck and it struck hard. The tears are still being shed even today. You can still hear the pain in Tracy's voice as she speaks.
Tracy has appeared on Life Obstacles 1490 a.m.
and 95.9 f.m. speaking on how she and her family members had to start healing. The pain was sharper than a knife and that would not go away. Tracy wants people to know that you can heal and does take time. One has to come to grip with yourselves in order to heal. There is nothing you can change for the victim at this point. So many questions and even more of what I could of done. Stop! beating yourself up and continue to live and advocate. Never take domestic violence lightly for it can happen to anyone. Locking him/her up may save a life and the life you save may be your own.
What you can change is helping people become aware that signs are real and don't ignore them. Tracy speaks strong and she knows she is now the voice of her sister. No more silence. It's time to speak out.
Kim Kilgore died from fatal gun shots wounds. Her spouse appeared as it it would just be a conversation. It was much more.
Tracy wants people to know that you can forgive. As she became of age she realized that it was not just her family affected by the tragedy but he also had siblings that were affected by the same occurrence. It was so easy to hate and dislike but she has found forgiveness. It's never tool late to heal.
What not to do. No longer be silent of what you see or even expect. Learn that people have to leave when they are ready to take the step of change. Tracy speaks on how it was hidden and no one would of never knew that her sister was going through such abuse. We learn that all things hidden will eventually come to the surface one day. If you are reading this article and going through domestic abuse you can be saved. You have so many reasons to live. Don't let this become the death of you. Don't think it can't happen to you because it can. Phone 211 for agencies that help you with a safety plan and shelter.
Don't feel any guilt for the person for they are crying for help. He or she needs help that is beyond your control. Your phone call to the police and follow through is the help they need. Your not taking anything away but saving future lives. Your saving the person from themselves. for speaking engagements phone 216-916-9410.
