Pet Separation Anxiety
Kaleena's Korner There are so many reasons why people do not take a vacation: not enough money, lack of/or minimal vacation days, fear of missing out (FOMO) on work opportunities, other engagements, etc. These are some commonalities that you read about as to why Americans don’t take the necessary time to recharge. However, there are other reasons people may not travel. How about social anxiety? Depression? Panic attacks? CBD may be able to help alleviate those symptoms that prevent you from truly having memorable and positive experiences. And of course, there's also anxiety or confusion on travel planning. That is where I can help! If researching has become overwhelming, contact me for a consult! Tell me what your interests are, budget, solo vs. group, land-based vs. cruise, etc. Having booked all of my trips on my own, learning things the “hard way”, my desire is to eliminate the stress, late nights and confusion of searching, finding and then picking the vacation that is best for your and/or your family and friends. Schedule a complimentary 10 minute session at https://calendly.com/kaleenakorner.

CBD 101
In basic terms, cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant, as well as other plants. There is a multitude of cannabinoids, including cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Cannabinoids, along with other compounds of the plant, work together as a team, to deliver dynamic healing properties. This is known as the entourage effect. CBD and its related cannabinoid compounds are classified as phytocannabinoids, which means that they’re derived from plants. Not to be mistaken for endocannabinoids, which are the type of cannabinoids we naturally produce in our body. There are also cannabinoids manufactured via chemical reactions in laboratories, known as synthetic cannabinoids. These can be harmful to the body. Each type of cannabinoid interacts with the body in different ways. They all come with their own set of benefits and work best when combined together.
What are Cannabinoids?
Buddha Beans Coffee Co.: Meet Lucy Hodges by Melissa Baller It’s not very often you see a couple growing a business together successfully. Lucy and Marc originally started coffee roasting as a hobby before it evolved into the blossoming Buddha Beans Coffee Co. While Marc focuses on the business side of the system, Lucy is the creative side with a deep thinker mentality. When it comes to balance within a business relationship, Lucy and Marc create a harmony of feminine and masculine energies.
The Feminine Energy Behind Buddha Beans Lucy graduated with a business degree in Entrepreneurship from California State University, Chico and shortly after, followed her dream and entered the fashion industry. “After I saw the struggles my parents went through owning a small business I never thought I’d own my own business,” she stated in our interview. “I always dreamt of being in fashion and worked my way up to my dream job as a buyer for a fast fashion company in downtown Los Angeles. After experiencing the ins and outs of the fashion industry, I knew I wanted to continue to grow my career and push myself even further.”

That’s when she and Marc took their hobby to the next level and created their business. “We began with selling coffee beans to our friends and family,” Lucy explained. “We sold by word of mouth and on Etsy. It then evolved into our CBD-infused beans and that’s where our focus is now.” They decided to create infused coffee to help reduce unwanted side effects of drinking coffee such as coffee jitters. What better way to help those who love their coffee? The added benefits of taking CBD was just a plus. Since Buddha Beans products are edible products, the FDA does not allow sole use of CBD isolate in edible products. To comply with regulations, they have been using isolate AND adding in other cannabinoids.

“In addition, we personally knew the benefits of CBD by avidly using the cannabinoid,” Lucy said. “Once we developed a method to combine the two and realized we could drink coffee while not getting the added anxiety it was a no-brainer to run with it.” After committing to owning Buddha Beans Coffee Co., Lucy found herself exactly where she needed to be. “By making Buddha Beans my full-time career and our sole income, it really motivated me to succeed,” she stated. “I knew that if I gave 100% of my effort into it that together we could continue to build something great.” Lucy thrives on the fact she is able to positively influence the CBD community. She is heart-driven and motivated to help empower other people to create the best version of themselves.

“It makes me want to be the best version of myself, as well as the best brand that we can be,” she explained. “If people are going to ‘look up to us’ we better set a darn good example and reflect what we’d like to see in others. If we can do what we love and make an impact on other’s lives, then that right there makes me happy.” Being a romantic couple and business partners can sometimes clash, but Marc and Lucy make it work harmoniously. Bringing a feminine touch to the business truly evens out what Marc already brings to the table. "I feel lucky that I get to add female energy to the mix,” Lucy said. “I think it really keeps things balanced.”
Lucy - A Natural Leader The business side of Lucy was perfectly displayed at the High Times Cannabis Cup on Memorial weekend. Lucy demonstrated remarkable leadership through her innovative ideas when no one else could come up with one. She is also the person that everyone goes to for advice. She is naturally intuitive and is the brains behind it all. “I’m naturally a thinker and not much of a speaker, so I’m really good at internalizing situations and taking things slow before making decisions,” Lucy explained. “I try to remind myself to be more decisive and confident. I have valid thoughts and contributions to bring to the table that I want to make sure don’t get overlooked. I have lots of experience and I enjoy applying my creative eye to the brand.”
Lucy is very intentional and passionate in everything she does within Buddha Beans. Not only does she focus on creating the best CBD coffee brand on the market but her purpose is to serve others as a positive influencer of both the coffee and CBD industries. “It’s an exciting time to be an innovator in the industry,” Lucy said. “With numerous similar products flooding the market, we find joy in adding a spin to your everyday selection of CBD products. We not only want to provide you with an innovative product, but we also want to ensure that it’s the highest quality out there on the shelves.” Buddha Beans Coffee Co. has a variety of roasts and flavors A person will never get bored sampling all of Buddha Beans unique flavors and roasts. Their flavors include Burundi, Colombian, Ethiopian and Mexican blends, each with medium and dark roast options. Colombian also has a decaffeinated option. Lucy and Marc aren’t stopping there! A couple of new additions to look forward to are a Full Spectrum CBD coffee, and a Nitro cold brew coffee.

They will continue to evolve and remain relevant to future coffee products. “Our goal with Buddha Beans Coffee Co. is to be the standard of the CBD coffee industry while focusing on our values and quality,” Lucy said. “We want to streamline the idea that CBD use is the new norm and eliminate any stigma towards incorporating it into your daily routine.” Website: www.buddhabeanscoffee.com Instagram: @buddhabeanscoffee
If there's one snack I could never get tired of, it's potato chips! Since I went vegan, I started to steer away from store bought chips because anything flavored had some kind of milk ingredient. And vegan chips and snacks are just too expensive. So I decided homemade was the way to go to satisfy my cravings. Homemade chips come with so many benefits: saves you money, no preservative ingredients included, you can flavor them any way you like and you can also make them medicated chips! I medicated mine with Budz Butter CBD olive oil. CBD Infused Potato Chips Ingredients: Avocado oil for brushing 1-3 medium peeled russet potatoes Pink Himalayan or sea salt 1 teaspoon crumbled dried rosemary

Instructions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Brush 2 large baking sheets lightly with avocado oil. Use a mandoline or hand-held slicing machine to cut the potatoes lengthwise into 1/8-inch thick slices. Arrange the slices in 1 flat layer on the baking sheets. Brush the slices lightly with oil and bake until golden throughout, 15 to 20 minutes, checking often since they brown at different rates. Transfer to paper towels and sprinkle with sea salt while hot. Spread chips on a big plate around in a circle and begin to make the dip. Vegan Taco Dip Ingredients: 1 can of garbanzo beans, drained 1 can of black beans, drained 1 bag of Light-Life meatless Mexican crumble 1 cup of Daiya dairy-free shredded cheddar cheese + a sprinkle for on top 1 avocado 1 dose of Fight Back CBD Tincture A dash of Tapatio hot sauce (optional) Instructions: Heat a big skillet up to medium high heat. Lightly oil the pan. Add the meatless crumble and break it down to small pieces. Add the garbanzo and black beans. Stir occasionally for 5 minutes. Add the cheese and stir for another 5 min until the mixture starts to become lightly crispy. Transfer to the center of the plate in the middle of the chips. Cut up an avocado and top the dip with the slices, along with a sprinkle of cheese, a dose of Fight Back CBD, and a splash of hot sauce for an extra kick. Enjoy!
Pet Health 101 with Dr. Jasmine Shanelle Streeter, Veterinarian CEO & Founder of Forrest Street LLC. Can CBD help my dog with Separation anxiety? Yes. CBD may be of medicinal benefit to alleviate signs of separation anxiety. Cannabidiol (CBD), a key cannabinoid found in the Cannabis sativa plant, has been used for centuries in both man and animal to treat a variety of ailments. CBD is renowned for its soothing, calming and pain relieving properties. Recently with the passing of new cannabis legislation, more and more pet owners are turning to natural alternatives like CBD to help treat health problems and behavior problems such as anxiety. Many pets exhibit signs of stress, fear or anxiety when left alone for extended periods of time. These signs can range from excessive barking and trembling to more severe behavior like actively trying to escape or even aggression. Pets can experience anxiety and stress just like humans so if your pet is acting abnormally always have a veterinarian examine them first. A recent survey on CBD products found that most dog owners (77.6%) indicated they used hemp-based products for an illness or condition diagnosed by a veterinarian, with the most common conditions including seizures, cancer, anxiety, and arthritis (Kogan, 2016, pg. 40). Infused Sugar Cubes by Stoned Layla Infused coffee and tea?! Yes, please! The beauty of infused sugar cubes is how easy and discreet they are to medicate on the go, in public or even just in the comfort of your own home. With this recipe it allows you the option to create your own infused sugar cubes using either THC, CBD or both! This is a 3 part recipe that will teach you how to make an alcohol tincture, infused sugar and sugar cubes. Alcohol Tincture CBD or THC flower or extract (amount of choice) 1/2 c Everclear 190 proof alcohol Decarboxylate your flower or extract. (I use the magical butter decarb box for precise temperatures.) (if using flower grind to a fine consistency) Mix decarbed flower or extract in a mason jar with Everclear Simmer jar in a water bath for 20 min 170•F Strain mixture and cool
Infused Sugar 4 cups sugar of choice (raw sugar, brown sugar, granulated sugar) 1/2 cup alcohol tincture *Preheat oven to 170•F* Mix sugar with alcohol tincture in bowl thoroughly Spread the mixture evenly into a baking pan. Bake for about 1 hour or until completely dried, removing every 10 min to stir the mixture When completely dried remove from oven and break up any clumps of sugar that may have formed (use a sieve if necessary) and allow sugar to cool Infused Sugar Cubes 1 cup infused sugar 1-3 tsp water Pour infused sugar into a bowl adding 1 tsp of water at a time until you reach a wet sand consistency (too much water will cause the sugar to dissolve, not enough water and the sugar will not form in molds) Make sure all lumps are removed using a fork or your hands. Pack the sugar mixture into silicone molds of your choice (I like the magical butter cube molds because of the size and the 21+ warning it leaves on the cubes) Allow the sugar to dry completely on the counter for 24-48 hours before removing from the mold. Store in an airtight container
