Dear Families, The school year is off to an amazing start! Our students are quickly learning about each other and their teachers. They are practicing routines and understanding expectations. Repeated practice of routines and expectations forms a habit.
Students are also reviewing the 7 Habits: Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, Synergize and Sharpen the Saw.
We had a wonderful Eclipse Day, with students participating in a variety of STEM related activities within their grade level classes. The reactions that were expressed during the eclipse were of awe and amazement. We are thankful for the glasses that the district provided so everyone could enjoy this cosmic event.
September is packed with many wonderful events, including our 5th Grade Camp, Picture Day and our Fall Festival. Please check out the calendar on the following page and take note of all of the special events and important dates. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Learn And Lead!
In order to ensure student safety, district policy requires all school volunteers to complete an initial request form. The office has additional forms. Please fill out a form if you will be helping with our fall party.
As a reminder, food treats are no longer allowed for birthday celebrations. If you would like to send a non-food item such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks, etc. to celebrate your child's birthday, you are welcome to do so.
Fall Pictures will take place on Sept. 29, 2017. Picture package order forms will be sent home with your student prior to the picture date. Please return the envelope with your child on picture day. Thank you.
The JL Mudd and Forest Park Park PTC would like to thank everyone for their participation in the fall fundraiser. We are looking forward to the Fall Festival from 5 - 7 pm on Sept. 29. As a reminder, Spirit Wear order forms are due Sept. 9. We are excited about the color and design options this year. Show your FPE spirit and order today!

Fort Zumwalt School District participates in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Children from families whose current income has either temporarily or permanently fallen below certain federal guidelines can qualify for free and reduced price meals. The identity of qualified children is completely confidential and the district goes to great lengths to keep these children anonymous from their peers. Parents should consider taking advantage of this valuable program should their current financial circumstances warrant participation. Applications are available from the school office.
Food Service InFormation
At Forest Park all students and staff belong to a "house." Last week 3rd graders and new students to Forest Park were sorted into four houses- Vadovas, Ceannaire, Kiongozi and Alaka'i. This program allows students to work together as a community and get to know other students and staff they might not ever have contact with otherwise. Students are able to earn points for their house in the classroom, in special area classes and on the playground. Each week the House points will be displayed in the main hallway. It is a friendly competition that promotes respect, responsibility, and leadership.
Ms. May is holding a book exchange in October. Drop off gently used books between Oct. 2 and Oct. 12 and receive books in return. The book exchange will be at 1 p.m., Oct. 12 at before Early Release.
Habits At Home
Habits at Home is our way to help you and your child practice the Seven Habits of Healthy Kids at home. We are striving to create a school community by connecting school and home. Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures for our first "Habits at Home" bulletin board! Keep an eye out for our next Habits at Home activity.
