Dear Families, Another school year has just begun and we are already off to an amazing start! It was nice to see so many families at Open House last week. We are excited to have all of our student leaders back and want to welcome our new 3rd grade students and families.
Please take some time to read through the newsletter for important dates and information pertaining to the beginning of the year. The email that you received containing this newsletter also contains the Annual Notification packet from the district. We look forward to working with you this school year. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call your child's teacher, the office, Mrs. Papuga or myself. This is going to be a great school year!

In order to ensure student safety, district policy requires all school volunteers to complete an initial request form. These forms are in your Open House packet.
As a reminder, food treats are no longer allowed for birthday celebrations. If you would like to send a non-food item such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks, etc. to celebrate your child's birthday, you are welcome to do so.
Fall Pictures will take place on Oct. 5, 2018. Picture package order forms will be sent home with your student prior to the picture date. Please return the envelope with your child on picture day. Thank you.

Fort Zumwalt School District participates in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Children from families whose current income has either temporarily or permanently fallen below certain federal guidelines can qualify for free and reduced price meals. The identity of qualified children is completely confidential and the district goes to great lengths to keep these children anonymous from their peers. Parents should consider taking advantage of this valuable program should their current financial circumstances warrant participation. Applications are available from the school office.
Food Service InFormation
Each child has an account for breakfast and/or lunch money. For your convenience, you can deposit money daily, weekly, or monthly. You can either pay online or by sending payments to school with your child. The risk of money getting lost decreases if your child does not handle money on a daily basis and if a check is sent. Checks should be made payable to Forest Park Elementary. Please make sure that all money comes to school in a sealed envelope with your child's first and last name marked clearly. Letters will be sent home on Friday of each week only if your child's account is less than $8 and daily via email. This year the cost for breakfast is $1.50, individual drinks of milk and water are $.60, juice is $.50 and lunch is $2.40.
You can view the lunch menu at our district or building website or by clicking the link on the front page of this newsletter. Please be aware that at times the menu is subject to change.

If you wish to join your child for lunch and enjoy one of our school prepared choices, we ask that you call ahead with your choice. Lunch orders need to be placed by 9:30 am the day that you plan to attend. The cost for an adult lunch is $3.25
Students who ride the bus to and/ or from school must ride the bus assigned to them by the transportation department, as well as get on/off the bus at the assigned spot. The transportation departments suggests that students arrive at the bus stop in plenty of time before their scheduled pick-up time. If you need assistance in locating your child's bus stop, please visit www.fz.k12.mo.us and use the "Find Your Bus Stop" link at the bottom of the home page. Please send a note to school to notify the office staff of any time your child is changing his or her dismissal procedures from school. If we do not have a note, your child will be sent home via their "normal" dismissal routine. If it is a bus change, you must call the transportation department at (636)240-3138.
In the concern of safety, please talk to your child about proper expectations for riding the bus. Students are expected to remain in their assigned seat while the bus is moving, keep hands feet and objects to themselves and talk in a low voice. These expectations will ensure the safety of students and our drivers. Students who fail to meet our bus behavior expectations will have consequences that may include an office referral, a notice to parents and/or possible suspension off the bus following district guidelines for student discipline.

However, when your child is going to be absent we ask that you call our school office at 636-272-2704. You may leave a voice message if you call prior to 7:45 am. If your child is absent and we do not receive a call from you, you will be contacted to verify your child's absence.
