Message from Dr Amir Hannan – Chairman World Health Innovation Summit It is an honour and a privilege to invite you to come to our first World Health Innovation Summit as we learn and share our knowledge and experiences from far and wide as well as from the local community here in Cumbria. Our message is simple – Together We Inspire. 3 simple words to say but understand their meaning and we will see fortunes overturn and talk of deficits, failure and weakness change to opportunities, transformation and #empowerlution. (You will have to listen to our talk to find out more about what this means). Actually the hashtag (#) alludes to a very powerful tool we all have at our disposal – social media. You or people in the community you serve will have many great ideas and solutions to problems we did not even know existed. As is often the case, the question is how do we find out and share these great ideas. That’s where the World Health Innovation Summit comes together. It provides a platform for you to share ideas. Whether it is by coming to the Summit and networking with people face to face or via the blogs on our website www.worldhealthinnoationsummit.com, our twitter (@hic2016), facebook, LinkedIn or on blab (on Fridays 9pm UK time). We are connecting clinicians, managers, patients, families, communities, businesses, educational establishments and public sector / private sector workers to come together for one purpose – all to help you to improve your health and wellbeing and exceed your potential and that of your loved ones. It is a tall order but I firmly believe we can do this together. Don’t forget to send tweets with the hash tag #WHISCumbria16 – the world is watching with excitement and you are at the centre of it. On behalf of the World Health Innovation Summit, I look forward to meeting you and thank you for joining us on this journey together. Why? Because we can! #TogetherWeInspire #WHISCumbria16
Message from Gareth Presch - Founder World Health Innovation Summit Welcome to Carlisle, Cumbria for our first World Health Innovation Summit. We hope that you will enjoy the two days we have scheduled. We feel we have a unique opportunity here to bring innovation in health care to a new level that benefits us all. We are in difficult times and our health services are under pressure. We have to acknowledge that, but it's up to us as a community to find ways that can support our health services. We can only do that by bringing everyone together to share their knowledge and innovate. This is the purpose of our activities. It's about us as a community working together so we all benefit. Carlisle is a beautiful City and Cumbria is a spectacular County full of wonderful people. We hope you enjoy the summit and the surrounding area so you can be inspired as I have been. It's been an amazing journey over the last 11 months and it's an experience I've thoroughly enjoyed. My mentor and good friend Prof John Bonnar always said to me that two minds are better than one and that it is people who make things happen. His words have always stuck with me and if we apply those principles over the next few days imagine what we as a group will achieve. Finally, I would like to thank each and every one of you personally for the support throughout this journey and I can assure you these two days are just the beginning of something very special that will impact not only our lives but the next generation for years to come. Our motto is "Together, We Inspire" and we have the opportunity right here and now to deliver.

WHIS KIDS
The World Health Organization (WHO) regards childhood obesity as one of the most serious global public health challenges for the 21st century. Obese children and adolescents are at an increased risk of developing various health problems, and are also more likely to become obese adults. The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) measures the height and weight of around one million school children in England every year, providing a detailed picture of the prevalence of child obesity. The latest figures, for 2014/15, show that 19.1% of children in Year 6 (aged 10-11) were obese and a further 14.2% were overweight. Of children in Reception (aged 4-5), 9.1% were obese and another 12.8% were overweight. This means a third of 10-11 year olds and over a fifth of 4-5 year old's were overweight or obese. We at WHIS want to support our health services and communities. We are providing a number of activites that can reduce the risk of obesity while improving a child's health and wellness. WHIS Ambassador: Jordan Hull, Junior Elite Triathlete For those who don’t know me I am Jordan Hull, I am 18 years old and a WHIS ambassador. I am an elite junior triathlete, competing for Great Britain, which involves hard, fast and technical racing against the best that other countries have to offer. I race across sprint distance triathlon (750m swim, 20km Bike, 5km Run) until next year when I progress to U23 racing over the Olympic Distance triathlon (1500m Swim, 40km Bike, 10km Run) A highlight of my triathlon career so far would be winning a Silver medal in our team of 3 athletes in the European Youth Relay Triathlon Championships in Penza, Russia. I am currently based in Leeds, where I’m studying Sport and Exercise Science at Leeds Beckett University. I chose to come to Leeds to train amongst the best in the country and in best in the world for my sport. I hope after a hard and gruelling winter to see some great results in the 2016 triathlon season. My ultimate aim is to compete in the Olympic Games, and who knows what possibilities lie ahead. I’m an extremely driven person, and a bit of a perfectionist. I love nothing more than pushing myself to see what I am capable of, everything I do I always want to do as fast as possible, be it a triathlon or a walk to the shops! My shorter term goal is to improve my running speed in races, I have always been a very strong swimmer, exiting the water in the top 5 athletes in most races in the calendar, and I have also got strength in cycling, so improving my running puts me in a better stead of achieving my goals. Wherever I’m racing, I’m always proud to represent Carlisle and proud to be a Cumbrian.
