Global Strategic Communication Council (GSCC), a project initiative of the European Climate Foundation, organized an interactive workshop of senior media persons and technical experts, to know and understand the perspectives of media covering environment, health, and air pollution in the context of building a stronger policy for clean air. Air pollution in India is estimated to kill 1.5 million people every year; it is the fifth largest killer in India. Delhi has the dubious accolade of being cited as the most polluted city in the world, by several studies, repeatedly, including those by the WHO. As a start to tackle air pollution, the Delhi government has announced a number of measures to address air pollution, which include shutting down power plants in Delhi, penalizing leaf and garbage burning, and experimenting with rationing of cars- the famous odd- even scheme, which has now led the Chief Minister on to the Fortune leader’s list for taking ‘ bold measures to tackle air pollution’. The odd- even initiative comes with its own pros and cons, and much remains to be done to develop an integrated plan to tackle the air pollution menace, in Delhi and across the country.

SMART CITIES SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP AT JAIPUR
Smart Cities focus on their most pressing needs and on the greatest opportunities to improve lives. They tap a range of approaches – digital and information technologies, urban planning best practices, public-private partnerships, and policy change – to make a difference. They always put people first. The strategic components of area-based development in the Smart Cities Mission are city improvement (retrofitting), city renewal (redevelopment) and city extension (Greenfield development) plus a Pan-city initiative in which Smart Solutions are applied covering larger parts of the city. To take these onto the implementation stage we must have Sustainability as our major focus. As an initiative towards capacity building, of all stakeholders from different professional backgrounds, In AWE conceptualised Workshop on SMART CITIES SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION , going to be held in 20 cities from the list of cities announced in phase 1 by MoUD.
