"Life would be tragic if it weren't funny"
- STEPHEN HAWKING
1942 - 2018
RIP : Stephen Hawking
Stephen William Hawking was born on January 8th, 1942 in Oxford, United Kingdom. His contributions to the world have accumulated over the years. Hawking indeed did participate in outstanding occupations, he was a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author, and a director of research at Cambridge University.
Unfortunately, Hawking was diagnosed with ALS.(Lou Gehrig's Disease) This syndrome causes paralyzation. Many diagnosed with this did not live that long, surprisingly Hawking did. Although he lived a very inspiring life, he passed away on March 14, 2018.
Thanks to his research on quantum physics and black holes, we have a better understanding of our universe. He work will be tresured for generations to come.

Soccer season started and our female cougar team is on a ROAR! The girls are performing a passionate performance and are ready to make a goal.
Although this team is a big deal to me, many have no idea that we have a female soccer team. It is best to give our team an extra boost.
Enjoy the amazing photographs by Swastik Bhatia (our junior photographer) took as a sample of the team.
A benefit of attending these games can be the student points that you get. Another plus is that the games on campus are close to the snack stands and if you have a dollar you can access them and get chips and other types of snacks. Last but not least, you get to support our team.

February was Black History Month. Black History Month is a month when people celebrate achievements made by African Americans.
Many have fought not only for the freedom of African Americans, but also for equal rights, treatment and opportunities. Important activists from the past include Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr, More recent voices for change vary from the political to pop culture: Barack Obama, Drake, John Legend, Lil Wayne, Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé, Michael Jordan, ,
Did you know that "Black Panther" is one of the movies that has an African American -Chadwick Boseman- played as 'Black Panther'
There is a growing concern in the media that African Americans tend to only be cast as gangsters or the villains, however, in this movie Chadwick Boseman is cast as the hero.
Do you like cats? Then you’ll love this kitty collector called Neko Atsume! This game was developed by Hit Point Co. Ltd., and designed by Yutaka Takazaki. You can collect cats of different breeds and their mementos. From Persian to Calico, from fluffy to shorthaired, Neko Atsume has it all!
Let’s start with the basics of Neko Atsume. The very first cat you can collect is a solid white cat named Snowball, however, you can rename all of the cats if you want. More cats will come based on the quality of your food, which can be bought with fish/golden fish (cheapest is Thrifty Bits, Frisky Bits, Ritsy Bits, Bonito Bits, Deluxe Tuna Bits, and Sashimi). Be careful though, as this will make your food run out faster since more cats will come. You can go to the shop and buy more food and goodies (pretty much cat toys/small buildings). When a cat visits you many times, they give you their memento, which varies depending on the cat (Snowball’s memento: Flowered Collar; Marshmallow’s memento: Flower Bookmark; etc.) and they all have their own small descriptions.
As you progress in the game, rare cats will come. They’re rare because you must either set out a special goody, only use a certain type of food, or set something out in a different house remodel (can be purchased using fish after a certain amount of progress is made). There are 22 rare cats out of the 62 total cats. Most likely, the first rare cat you’ll get will be Tubbs, a chubby fluffy cat. He takes all of you food and appears as a large white cat with a round belly, a bowl of empty cat food next to him, and a happy smile on his face. Rare cats will come and go, giving you their own mementos as well. Differently from normal cats; their mementos are based on themselves. For example, Frosty’s (rare cat) memento is a Thaw-Proof Snowman, Ramses The Great’s (rare cat) memento is an Elegant Staff, and the list goes on.

There are several house remodels available in Neko Atsume: classic, sugary, western, rustic, zen, café, and modern. Each can be bought with 280 golden fish (first remodel is 50% off), and you can switch each one as many times as you want. However, switching styles will cause any cats in your yard/house to leave and the goodies left out will be switched randomly.
One of the most important things in Neko Atsume are the goodies! In total, all of the goodies cost 16,070 normal fish and 1,005 golden fish (approximate). There are 188 goodies in total that you can collect. The two sizes of goodies are small and large, large goodies (ex. Cardboard house, dino deluxe, cat metropolis, kokatsu, etc.) take up two spaces in your yard but usually, more than one cat can access it at once unlike small-sized goodies. Cats will not come to your yard if you do not have goodies, and they will not come if you don’t have food either. In the goodies tab, you can also buy a yard expansion, food, and fish exchanges (500 normal fish exchanged for 10 golden fish, or 10 golden fish exchanged for 250 normal fish).
That’s all for Neko Atsume! Quick recap; you can buy food, goodies, a yard expansion, and house remodels with fish (more common) and golden fish (more valuable and uncommon). There are two types of cats, normal and rare. Both will give you their mementos after a certain amount of visits. Two types of goodies exist; large and small.
Time to start your own cat-collecting adventure!

As you all know, at the Spring Carnival Mrs. Thorner was duct taped to the wall to help raise money for the magazine club. IVCMS staff, students, and even her own kids helped to duct tape her (they enjoyed it the most). With this event, we were able to raise a grand total of $211. (yay!!!) After the event I was able to interview her about the fundraiser.
Q. 1) How did you feel when you were getting duct taped?
A. 1) "Well it was hot and a little hard to keep myself close to the wall so the tape would hold me close. The more tape that was added, the weirder [it] started to feel but all the kids talking to me helped me just have fun."
Q. 2) Why did you agree to do it?
A. 2) "I am always happy to do things for my students. I ask a lot of you guys every day so it is the least I can do to help my students when they ask. I also like having fun with the students, I don't always get a chance to do that, so I take any opportunity I get."
Q. 3) Would you do it again? Why or why not?
A. 3) "I would totally do it again. It was fun and I am sure many students have already thought of different ways to get me to stick to the wall longer."
Q. 4) Did you feel silly while doing it?
A. 4) "Absolutely. Not much I can do when I am stuck to a wall and everyone is looking at me. But all the kids were so great and having fun so it was worth it. Plus with my kids there they just loved being able to help tape Mom to a wall. I loved seeing how silly they could be with my students."
Q. 5) What did it feel like to get duct tapped in front of everyone?
A. 5) "I felt kinda silly and a little worried that I was going to fall down and making a fool of myself. There were lots of phones out, I knew I was going to be all over the Internet, so I was hoping not embarrass myself too much. But a little embarrassment is worth it to see all the smiles of the kids taping me to the wall or the ones laughing and watching. It is good to laugh and have fun!"
