Celebration of the Arts and Talent Show! On Thursday, March 9th we gathered at the West Cambridge Youth Center and celebrated all of our students' artistic talents! Every student had at least one piece of art from art class - thanks to art teacher Laurie Gaines and all the parents who helped mount and hang them, in particular Carroll Magill! We were also treated to a talent show by our willing 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. There were 18 diverse acts - including singing, dancing, musical instruments, comedy, and acting! Thanks to all the staff members who helped our students shine on stage - Kerri Favreau, Jessica Joseph, Jolene Stewart, Katherine Nole, Elise Faucher and Lissa Galluccio.

Music Corner By Caitlin Mehta (Shelley Irvin-Kent), Music Teacher New England Percussion Ensemble On Friday, March 10th, Haggerty students were delighted to engage in a performance by the New England Percussion Ensemble. Students learned about the history and culture of percussive instruments and collaborated in making music with other students and the ensemble. It was good fun! Dear Kindergarten Families, Students have learned the new concept, rhythm. When we read it use our rhythm fingers to match the way the words go. Students can read with their hands and voices – and them to show you! March’s Secret Song is Revealed! Title: Reunion Composer: Anoushka Shankar Countries: England, India, United States Date: 1981 This song is called, Reunion, named after our ability to recover from difficulties and find a place of hope. The upbeat and playful tempo of the song reminds us of new beginnings and freedom. Anoushka Shankar is a British Indian sitar player and composer. The sitar is a long, large-necked Indian lute with moveable frets, which is played with a wire pick. Anoushka started learning the sitar from her father when she was seven years old. She has become one of the most well-known sitar players in the world.
