Thank you to our March Luncheon Sponsor What an opportunity it is to be a member of such a great organization. As most of you know by now, Questar has gone through a tremendous change and is now owned by Dominion Resources out of Richmond, VA. We are now named Dominion/Questar but will take on the name of "Dominion Energy" May 10th. All of the changes internally should not affect our everyday operations and the same employees that have always been there for you in the past will be there for you and your needs in the future. Over the years Questar Gas has seen our membership as a privilege and an honor to help build and support the building industry locally, regionally and Nationally. We take our commitment to the HBA seriously and want to be an outstanding member there for Mari and her staff at the Southern Utah Home Builders Assoc. Thank you again for allowing us to be a member of such a proud organization as SUHBA. We will be having a Member Orientation on Wednesday, April 26th from 11:45am- 1:00pm at Anyone who has joined recently or has never attended is more than welcome to attend to learn more about your SUHBA benefits and how you can best maximize your membership. Three ways to RSVP - Online registration and more info are available here. Click here to print a registration form to fax or call Toni or Kathy at 435.674.1400. SUHBA Scholarships are available and due by March 31st. SUHBA members and those going into a construction industry field receive preference. Contact the SUHBA office or click here for an application.
We celebrated the 27th year with 28 beautiful homes. We distributed approximately 37,158 tickets this year. Last year was 36,327. This is an increase of 831 tickets over last year. Builders have reported good home sales as a result of the Parade. We had over 420,386 visits to the homes. We realize this number is low because there were missed check-ins. Homes were very crowded! We had a fun kick-off dinner banquet with 330 in attendance at the Dixie Center and we enjoyed comedian Dave Burleigh. Thank you to Zions Bank and Washington County Board of Realtors for sponsoring the banquet. Thank you to Stephen Wade Auto Centers for sponsoring the entertainment. We sold-out with 119 exhibit booths reserved this year. Thank you to many of you that participated. Thank you to Habitat for Humanity for providing chairs in the garages. Approximately $15,360 was raised for the Southern Utah Home Builders Care Foundation as a result of the Parade. A portion of every ticket is donated to the Foundation. Funds were also raised for education scholarships. Last year, SUHBA gave over $22,000 in education scholarships. Magazine ad sales increased 6% over last year. Highest ad sales since 2008! Thank you to Spectrum Media for their hard-work and again to many of you who advertised in this year’s publication. We want to thank our main sponsor Zions Bank for their outstanding support. Thank you to Questar Gas, Boulevard Home Furnishings, Burton Lumber, Spectrum Media, Canyon Media, KSL TV and KSL.com for their support as long-time sponsors. Thank you to all the members who worked on the Parade homes, volunteered to help, and for the overall excellent support of this community event!!
Thank you for the outstanding support of this year’s Parade of Homes. We recognize the hard-work and dedication in making every Parade of Homes exceptional. It’s because of you we have one of the best Parade of Homes in the country and it helps to attract future homebuyers to our area. It also adds millions of dollars to our community and creates many jobs.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Employers Required to Use New I-9 Form In an effort to reduce errors and make it easier to complete the forms on a computer, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has published a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. All employers are now required to use it. NAHB Applauds Trump President Donald Trump honored a campaign promise he made to home builders when he signed an executive order Feb. 28 directing EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers to begin the process of rescinding or revising the controversial "waters of the United States" (WOTUS) rule. OSHA Training Mountain West OSHA Training Center will be conducting the OSHA 2264 – Permit Required Confined Space Course in St. George, Utah at the Dixie Applied Technology College, 610 South Airport Rd, on March 20th - 22nd. Click here for more information. Dancing with Your Community Stars We're happy to announce that SUHBA is once again a sponsor for the 3rd annual Dancing with your Community Stars on March 25th at Snow Canyon High School. Job Posting Job Title: Laborer Available Date: Immediately Job Description: Small Pool Building company looking for help. Experience in construction is a must and experience in Pool Services is preferred. Must be 18 Years or older and have a valid drivers license. After 90 days work truck will be provided for you. Job pays well with possibility of bonuses if you are the right fit. Compensation depends on experience. Email resumes to Cheyenne Sullivan. Government Affairs The HBA engaged on several bills during the 2016 legislative session. Getting bad bills stopped or pushed to a study period is as important as passing good bills. Over the past session the HBA worked with elected leaders to accomplish this goal. A couple of the high points from that effort are: HB121 and HB125 were bills drafted to adopt building codes and fire codes without any amendments agreed on by stake holders during the legislative process. These bills were held in order to let participants focus on the code bills that ultimately passed with productive amendments. HB195 was a bill to raise Utah’s minimum wage to $12.00 per hour with automatic increases going forward. Most construction related jobs already offer higher pay rates than proposed; however, eliminating business owner’s ability to hire entry level workers at a lower wage eliminates job opportunities. People need the chance to get experience and prove themselves. We encourage a strong work force with people engaged at all pay levels and opportunities to improve their circumstance.
