Lady Reds Water Polo
We're excited to be back on the lakefront for another year of Lady Reds water polo! Welcome to our first edition of our alumnae newsletter. Every year, we would like to provide our alumna an update on our program in the fall and spring and share what we’ve been up to! Here is a recap of 2017: The 2017 season marked the second year with Laura “LJ" Coffman at the coaching helm. This year, we welcomed seven freshmen on a team of 18. We finished third in the league, following intense competition in the CWPA. In the regular season, we split against Macalester College, and beat the 2016 champions Connecticut College three times throughout the season. We finished third, and graduated three seniors; Maddie Gronset (#9), Laura Larsen (#11), and Carly Strass (#3).

Emma '20, had some big shoes to fill in 2017 as she became our starting goalie as a freshman. For her efforts in 2017, Emma was named Honorable Mention Player of the Week, Player of the Game in the Third Place Game vs Connecticut College at the CWPA Championships, and Lady Reds Team MVP. We can't wait to see what she will achieve in 2018!

Fall 2017
Another year is underway
Our Fall Ball practices have been in full swing since Columbus Day, which will provide us a chance to see how the team will take shape in 2018! We have also been invited for an exciting opportunity to participate in the IU Chicago Showcase held at Naperville North High School on November 4th. We play at 10 AM against the University of Toronto and at 4 PM against Lindenwood University! It will be an exciting conclusion for our Fall Ball segment! Wear your Carthage gear and come see our Lady Reds compete! We will also have the opportunity to travel to California at the conclusion of J-Term 2018. We are still finalizing games, but we are currently scheduled to play against California Lutheran, Cal State-Northridge, and CMS! If you're looking to visit Kenosha, we also be hosting a quadrangular February 24th and 25th against Macalester, Monmouth and McKendree! 2018 will also see an expansion our league , the CWPA, with the inclusion of Whittenberg University! The Ohio school brings more water polo to the Midwest and we’re excited to compete to be the best in the region with a new competitor! This addition was announced after Austin College, in Austin TX announced the development of a women’s varsity team. We can expect to see East and West divisions in the coming seasons.

Gracie Dix is a Marketing major from Mt. Prospect, Illinois! One day, Gracie would love to take over her family’s ice cream shop! She considers her biggest sports thrill being her high school team qualifying for the high school State Tournament for first time in school history. She loves to listen to pop/alternative and will never turn down a steak dinner! She admires her sisters the most, would love to meet Taylor Swift and considers Michael Phelps to be her biggest sports hero. When asked why Carthage, she loves the campus, her classes are engaging and she can continue to play water polo at the NCAA level!
Alumnae! We are looking to do a Lady Reds Alumni Game sometime in the Spring, and we want to hear from you! If you're interested in playing or coordinating a dinner or brunch please contact Laura Coffman (lcoffman@carthage.edu). We would love to see as many Lady Reds Alums as possible!
Arianna Dakuras is a Nursing major from Chicago, Illinois! Ari wants to obtain her BSN then earn a Master’s in a specialized Nursing field such as Anesthesiology or neonatology. She roots for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks. The person she admires most is her dad because he has gone above and beyond so she and her brothers can get the best education possible, while sacrificing his life to keep the city of Chicago safe! She chose Carthage because it’s the perfect distance from home, offers a direct nursing program, and she can balance her academics while continuing to play water polo!
