Terrific Kids and BIG Difference Assemblies
School Bus Evacuation Training
Our first ever BIG Difference focus was on WELL-BEING this month. These students embrace positive well-being and are living a healthy active life and are thriving by exploring possibilities, overcoming challenges, respecting self, others and the environment, and making a positive contribution to their community.
School bus evacuation practice is an important safety measure that we promote along with the Ministry Transportation Ontario for students who ride the school bus to and from school daily and for students who may ride buses on field trips.
Our Terrific Kids focus was on RESPECT this month. Our students showed that they value themselves, others and our environment. They give consideration to the thoughts and actions of others and they treat others as they would want to be treated themselves, with courtesy and dignity.
During an emergency situation on the school bus, every second is important in ensuring our students are well prepared and safe. Our students need to know and practice school bus evacuation in case there is an emergency on the school bus.
The objective of a school bus evacuation is to get the children off the bus safely in the shortest possible time and in an orderly way.

As a part of our commitment to provide a safe learning and working environment, all schools in the province have emergency response procedures. We will have a full school emergency response practice later this month. We have three emergency response states: "Lockdown", “Hold and Secure” & “Shelter in Place.” ·
“Lockdown” is used as a response to a major threat of violence within the school or immediate area. Students and staff learn how to best locate themselves in their locked classrooms. ·
“Hold & Secure” will be a response to a threat in the general vicinity of the school. While the doors will be locked and monitored, the school and classes will continue to function normally. Occupants do not leave. ·
“Shelter in Place” will be a response to an external environmental situation such as weather or a chemical spill. While the doors will be locked and monitored, the school and classes will continue to function normally. Occupants do not leave. We may allow others inside.
Activities in the library
Students are invited to the Library/Learning Commons to participate in a Craft Club organized by Ms. M.
We look forward to all of the seasonal and interesting crafts they will create in this time. Remember to have fun and be as creative as you can be!
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES
PARENTS... just a reminder to please remind your child(ren) to check the lost and found box in the small room off of the office. Items that stay in the box will eventually be donated to a local charity.
