BACKGROUND In 2013, Colleen Unema founded Brio Laundry and introduced a new, modern laundry experience to the people of Bellingham, WA. Brio Laundry looks nothing like the regular dingy and dirty laundromat, but prides itself as clean, comfortable, and eco sustainable with exceptionally friendly service. The investment paid off, because in 2018, Brio Laundry was among the top one percent performing laundromats in the United States. THE CHALLENGE From the start, Brio Laundry was using an iPad-based POS system. The solution was great for ringing up sales, but it was not built for the special requirements of a laundromat such as tracking open orders, pounds to be laundered, and keeping tab of special instructions and order shelf location. “Because of our rapidly growing client base, it soon became clear that the POS system could not meet our needs,” says Colleen Unema, owner of Brio Laundry. “I needed a system that supported the entire laundry process and had a powerful reporting tool.” THE SOLUTION At an industry event, Colleen crossed paths with Curbside Laundries, which specializes in POS solutions for laundromats. Curbside Laundries POS streamlines the wash-and-fold process, simplifies and tracks customer orders, handles payments, and automatically sends customers alerts.The software is hosted in the cloud and can be accessed from anywhere. In addition, Curbside Laundries has a robust reporting tool that keeps track of sales and employee performance. THE BENEFITS “Our new POS system keeps track of all individual orders from beginning to end with less mistakes and faster turn-around times as a result,” says Colleen. “Launderers know exactly what orders to process first and they receive clear printed instructions, which significantly reduces the risk for mix ups and ensures that the customer's instructions are followed. Customers are given accurate times as to when their clothes will be ready, and they spend less time waiting, because the attendant knows exactly where the order is.” The robust reporting suite provides insight to the business performance. It enables Colleen to monitor the productivity of the attendants and track commission sales of Brio’s organic laundry products. The POS system also prevents fraud with cash and inventory reconciliation at the end of each shift. “With a rapidly growing business, it is critical to know what is going on and to make sure that the business is running as efficiently as possible,” explains Colleen. “The new POS system provides insight into our revenue and costs at any given time, and I can monitor the pounds laundered by each employee as well as manage inventory and the usage of the laundry machines – and I can access everything from home if I want." The solution can be upgraded at the touch of a button to accept pickup and delivery orders. So if Brio Laundry decides to do pickup and delivery in the future, they already have the solution in place to take care of that.
