As a successful 2018 comes to a close, we always want to be sure and take this time of year to give thanks for our many blessings. We are thankful for the support of BASF and all of the things they do for us. Wymar is deeply committed to serving only BASF employees, retirees and their family members. We are one of only a few credit unions left in the country that still serve only one employer. It is because of the support from BASF that we are able to remain true to that mission.
We are also thankful for our volunteer Board members, Supervisory Committee members and other Committee members who give their time and expertise to make Wymar what it is today. Without these people, we could not do what we do for our members. Our Annual Appreciation Dinner in December was a great success but only a small token of the appreciation we have for these volunteers.
I am personally thankful to be blessed with a great staff who keep this place humming every day. Their dedication to serving our members is unmatched in the industry. Being voted one of Business Report's 2018 Best Places to Work in Baton Rouge was a testament to the teamwork we have at Wymar.
2018 has been another outstanding year for your credit union and we look forward to continued success in 2019. Keep an eye out for our brand-new Mission Statement and Core Values that our Board has worked diligently to revise so that it will serve as a testament to our commitment to our members. And you might even see a little surprise in your account in January!
Of course, we can’t forget the reason for the season, the greatest gift of all. May God bless you and your family in 2019.
A Message from the CEO
Ashley D. Parrott is the Mortgage Lending Manager for Wymar Federal Credit Union. She has been with Wymar for over nine years and in the mortgage industry for over 20 years now. As a valued employee of Wymar, she not only provides a lot of fun and laughter to our team, but also a vast knowledge to our membership regarding mortgage and real estate trends.
Ashley is also our Senior Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) and has helped many of our members achieve financial and credit freedom.
Ashley has two children, Rhagen Lastrapes and Koby Ficklin, as well as four beautiful grandchildren, Knoll, Lillie, Nixon, and Kai. She is a hands-on Nana who loves spending most of her downtime enjoying and learning with her grandbabies every chance she gets. When she is not working or with her grandbabies, she is living life to the fullest through her love for travel. With any extra spare time, she loves to relax and enjoys watching documentaries on Netflix.
Ashley is a go-getter, a team player, and doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to helping our members in any way she can. Wymar FCU and our members are so appreciative for all Ashley does for us!

Getting to Know...
We can hardly believe 2018 is coming to an end, but after another incredibly busy and exciting quarter, we can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for us!
We started off the quarter participating in BASF’s 2018 United Way Golf Classic by putting on yet another fun and eventful Wymar Putting Contest! We always have so much fun with these, and it’s a blast getting to see so many of our members and add a little extra friendly competition to the tournament. Congratulations to our lucky winner, Larry Aguillard, Jr., for winning the $100 cash prize! Another successful BASF event we participated in was the annual Chili Cook-Off! They had a record-breaking turnout this year, with proceeds going to Capital Area United Way. We were so appreciative to have been a part of this event and were happy to be able to provide drinks for all of those who purchased chili.
Next, we showed our love for our community and our love for food by participating in the annual CU Lunch Local campaign put on by the Louisiana Credit Union League. We love any opportunity to show support and give back to our community, and we did just that by promoting and recognizing our favorite local restaurants, coffee shops, and supermarkets… plus, it didn’t hurt that we got to eat delicious food along the way!
Our Marketing Coordinator, Kelly Duvall, later represented Wymar by participating in BASF’s Women’s Build with Habitat for Humanity. These ladies did an outstanding job working hard to provide a home for the much deserving Rogers family! We also participated in Eat Baton Rouge’s Burger Week! By purchasing a burger through select restaurants, EatBR donated $2 to Companion Animal Alliance of Baton Rouge for every photo posted. We loved participating in this considering our love for a good burger and our love for animals – it was a win-win! Finally, we participated in BASF’s 2018 Wellness Fair. We got the opportunity to share with both members and potential members the importance of financial health and how it ties into one’s own well-being. We promoted our newest product, Wymar Wallet Wisdom. This is a great financial literacy tool that can be accessed from your desktop, tablet or mobile phone. It’s FREE and filled with brief interactive videos covering key financial topics from financial basics, major life transactions, planning for retirement, and paying for college. United Way Chili Cook-Off

Although we love staying busy while participating in community and BASF events, our staff really enjoyed having a little fun of our own!
Later in October, we had our annual Halloween Costume contest. We have so much fun with this every year, and this year, we would like to congratulate our first place winners, MSRs Mandy Smith and Catherine Pellegrin, for their “Nick Saban paying the refs” costume!
In November, we had a blast cheering on the LSU Tigers at our Wymar Family LSU Tailgate! This event is a great
opportunity for our staff and their families to
come together and enjoy some great food
and even better company while cheering
on our LSU Tigers!
This quarter, we hosted our annual Wymar Jambalaya Luncheon for the BASF Retiree’s Club and had a blast doing so. It’s always great to have our members who have been with us for so many years come together and enjoy each other over some delicious jambalaya, which was cooked by Jared White this year! We also celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month by turning our credit union and staff totally PINK! Breast Cancer Awareness is very personal to our staff, and it is very important that we participate in spreading awareness while also showing support for the fighters, the survivors, and the taken.
Christmas certainly has a way of bringing people together and reminding you of what is important. We wouldn’t want to wrap up 2018 any other way than spreading Christmas cheer within our staff and to others.
We started showing off our Christmas spirit by having our Annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Luncheon for our staff. Everyone contributed some delicious food while wearing ugly (and cute) Christmas attire. Then, it was time to clean up nice for our Annual Wymar Christmas Appreciation Dinner at Sno’s. It was a fantastic evening where everyone from our staff, Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, ALCO Committee, Nominating Committee, Leadership Team, and more gathered together with our loved ones and shared a delicious meal.
This year, we decorated our lobby with a colossal Christmas stocking stuffed with toys. To promote early savings, we allowed our members to enter children 12 years of age or younger to win the stocking. Because it is so important to us to encourage financial education early on, a child must have a Wymar savings account to be entered. This was a huge success as we opened a handful of new children’s savings accounts! We look forward to seeing the joy the stocking of toys brings to our winner, five-year-old Lillie Richardson, on Christmas morning!
One of our favorite moments of this holiday season was adopting the White family this Christmas. Louis White and his wife, Amber White, have three beautiful children, Joseph (6), Luke (4), and Abagail (2). Louis was diagnosed with tongue cancer in August of 2018, and after adding up costs from surgeries, being in and out of ICU, trips to MD Anderson, and putting two jobs on hold, a major financial strain was placed on this family. Wymar decided to pull together, and our entire staff raised enough money to provide winter clothes and toys for their three children this Christmas. This family is much deserving, and we truly feel for them as they go through this hard time. There is no better feeling than giving back to those in need.

This year marked the 70th anniversary of International Credit Union Day, and we had the perfect way to celebrate! *Annual Percentage Yield. **Rates may change after the account is opened. Members must meet listed qualification to receive the higher yield of 3.00% on any account balance up to $7,500. Members are limited to one Cha-Ching Checking account as a primary account holder. No commercial account may participate in this program. Dividends are paid on accounts with positive balances. Keeping your account safe and secure is our highest priority. We partner with SHAZAM, our debit card processor, to implement a fraud management solution to help protect your debit card against fraudulent activity.
Automated Fraud Alerts!
We will now be providing Fraud Alerts as part of our debit card protection program. You will receive a text message when suspicious activity is detected on your debit card. If you receive a Fraud Alert text message, reply Yes or No to confirm or deny the activity.
If you reply No (you didn't complete the transaction, and the activity was fraudulent), you’ll quickly receive a follow-up text to let you know that a SHAZAM fraud specialist will call you soon to help protect your account. We’ll also automatically block your debit card to prevent any additional fraudulent activity.
If you reply Yes (you did complete the transaction, and the activity was legitimate), you can continue to use your debit card as normal.
If you don’t reply to the text, or your phone number is not a mobile number, we will attempt to reach you via an automated phone call.
Skip-A-Pay Program Update
New Year, New Rules!
We are excited to announce that in 2019, we will no longer be offering Skip-A-Pay only twice a year. Effective January 1, 2019, we will be offering Skip-A-Pay year-round!
With our year-around Skip-A-Pay, you can skip a consumer loan payment for a $25 fee per loan skipped during whichever month you choose! By logging in to your It’s Me 247 Online Banking account, you can click on the green “SP” button next to eligible loans to apply for Skip-A-Pay OR give us a call at (225) 673-7191 during business hours or pay us a visit. We’re happy to help!
Disclaimer: Skip-A-Pay eligible for members in good standing. Must have current consumer loan open for 6 months, paid monthly and financed through Wymar FCU. If all apply, you will see a green SP next to your consumer loans. Allowed a maximum of 4 total Skip-A-Pays during life of the loan. Interest will continue to accrue on loans when payment is skipped.
