Jesus has opened a way for us into God's presence.
8:00am - 11:00am
I’ve been thinking and talking a lot lately about the reality that we are the Church. His Church is not a building, but rather a people.
I would like to spend some time exploring a related idea. In the Old Testament, the Tabernacle and later the Temple was the place God’s people would go to meet with God. God chose to indwell that place in Jerusalem, and thereafter God’s people would worship, sacrifice and meet with the God who created them, at His House. We could spend hours exploring all the Scripture says about this subject, and it certainly is a rich study. However, my intention is to focus on an important transition that takes place in the New Testament. But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit. 51 Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, and the rocks were split. Matthew 27:50-51 (CSBBible) Behind that curtain mentioned in verse 51 you would find the Holy of Holies, that place in the Temple where God chose to dwell. At the point at which Jesus died for our sins, this symbolic and very real tearing of the barrier, between God and man, took place. Hebrews 10 speaks to this, saying that Jesus has opened a way for us into God’s presence. But, there’s more. Not only do we have access to God through Jesus Christ, which is of course the basis for our very salvation. Now God no longer dwells in a specific room within a specific temple in Jerusalem. He has chosen to indwell His people. Possibly even more rich and mysterious than the idea that God would choose to dwell in a place, is the reality that God could indwell us.
I’m going to give you three passages to consider, and recommend that you invest some time studying further.
You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him. Romans 8:9 (CSBBible)
Don't you yourselves know that you are God's temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is holy, and that is what you are. 1Corinthians 3:16-17 (CSBBible)
Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (CSBBible)
the dwelling of God
Our first passage clearly states that those who have genuinely trusted Christ as their Lord and Savior, have the Spirit of God living in them. No exceptions. The other passages point us toward some essential implications of this truth.
If my body is the temple of His Holy Spirit, where I go, He goes. The implications of that are important (I think we can agree to say that’s a massive understatement). The specific context of that 1 Corinthians passage is related to sexual immorality. Which is certainly as important to us in our culture as it was to the Corinthians believers. Where I go, what I expose my body to, what I join my body to, and many more implications are important for us to realize, as we walk in faith and obedience. We cannot pretend otherwise.
There is much, much more to say about this subject. For now, allow me to ask you to join me in thinking intentionally about this reality. Spend some time reading, studying and praying about this truth. Wrestle with this idea that the God who created everything, has chosen to dwell in the hearts and lives of His children. You don’t go to a temple to meet with God, you are His temple and He is with you always. His presence, power and love are within you this very moment and always. If each of us begin to invite God to help us live with an awareness of the reality that He lives within us, it will change who we are, how we live and what people around us experience as they interact with us.
We are His Church.
He dwells in us. May God be glorified in us!
His Church is not a building, but rather a people.
We still have a limited amount of openings. Tuesday & Thursday - 8:30 - 2:30. Ages 6 weeks through 5 years
You are God's temple and he is with you always.

We are so excited to be here at FBC Pea Ridge! After a few weeks of commuting, we were ready to move up here and now we have the joy of drive two minutes rather than an hour and a half up here! Thank you so much for your welcoming arms and generosity in the process. The pounding has been tremendously helpful in getting things together this first week. On another note, it was great to go to camp just weeks after beginning this position. The Lord moved in ways that I never would have expected or imagined throughout the week. The students went into the week skeptical of a new student pastor. We did not do things in the ordinary or in the manner that they were accustomed, which scared and worried them. They only had access to their phones for a small portion of each day. They were expected to share their testimony. They were expected to engage in worship and small group discussion. Almost all of them were hesitant to all of this, but ended up enjoying the week and still talk about it to this day. Each students shared their testimony. They learned the power of their stories. The beauty of our story is that we see the gospel applied to a person’s life. We see hope applied to a hopeless situation. We see joy applied to a joyless situation. Redemption is a wonderful thing to learn of, but a completely awe-inducing event to experience at a personal level. Throughout the week at camp, students were given an opportunity to respond to the call that the Lord was placing on their lives. Eleven decisions were made! Eight were to rededicate their lives where they weren’t following Christ as they should and three were in response to the calling and gift of salvation! It is evident that the Lord is at work amongst this generation and in the lives of these students in Pea Ridge. What a joy it is to see Him work in the beginning of our time here at FBC Pea Ridge. This only sets the stage for God-sized works in the future, for which I cannot be any more excited!
Church family, Maddi and I are excited to continue to partner alongside you for the weeks, months, and years to come here in this community! - Patrick Meador
