Who is walking with you through your year?
I suppose I always find myself reflecting on a finished year and looking forward with anticipation, hope and faith toward the coming year. I see things from the year that’s gone, and pray for and resolve to work for better things in the coming year. I pray for God’s blessings and goodness in 2018. That seems appropriate, right?
I look to celebrate and give God thanks for those things from 2017 that I think are good and blessings. I reflect on people who have come to faith, milestones that have been reached and good that been accomplished. There have been many things to give God thanks for in this passing year.
In the process of reflecting, I will often review the news highlights of the year that we’re closing the books on. Review and consider what has happened locally and around the world. Sometimes looking at the world through the lens of the news can be a bleak endeavor. After all, it seems that not much of the news falls in the category of good news.
This year I find myself connecting the dots between our theme during December and my pondering and praying for the year to come. During the weeks leading up to Christmas our focus was on Immanuel – God with Us. We explored part of what it meant, that God would send His Son to be God with us. It could be that the most important thing about what comes to us in 2018 is not whether it’s good, bad or better than 2017. It could be that the most important reality for us who still live in this broken and fallen world, is that we recognize that God has entered our broken world to bring us redemption and life. He has entered our broken fallen world and chosen to walk amid the brokenness with us. For those who trust Him by faith, He choses to live with us. He promises to never leave or forsake us. Though we may not always understand, like or chose what comes into our lives, we have the assurance that God walks with us. Through the good and bad. Through the things we count as blessings and those we easily identify as evil. Even through the valley of the shadow of death, we fear no evil, because of His presence with us.
Maybe my focus needs to be more on Jesus, His presence, His grace, His strength in my weakness; than on my circumstances. Maybe the most important question is not, how is your year going? Maybe the most important question is related to, Who is walking with you through your year? Just maybe our journey will be best, regardless of the good or bad, when our hearts are focused on Jesus who walks with us.
More than seeking a good year, let’s seek Jesus. More than focusing on the good or bad, let’s focus on Jesus. More than lamenting the pain and wondering where the blessings of God have gone when things aren’t going as we’re certain they should be, let’s seek our God with our whole heart. In your days, good, bad, easy or hard; seek His presence. Ask God to help you become increasingly aware of His presence in your life. I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I will seek Immanuel and pray for an awareness of His presence always.
In the days ahead, I’m convinced that God wants to help you and I walk with Him in this life of faith. Let’s be intentional about taking next steps and allowing God to guide us through the coming days. Let’s daily seek Him in His Word and invite Him into all of life. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus and see how we begin to see all of life differently because of that focus.
Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2-keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (CSBBible)
As we walk by faith into 2018, I pray that we are acutely aware that we are not alone.

HAPPY 2018 CHURCH FAMILY!! Another year has come and gone very quickly! Crazy! I hope everyone had a great Christmas holiday with family and friends. I look forward to another year of serving with all of you!
I’m not one on New Year’s resolutions really, but there are areas in my life that I need to improve on personally. A few examples are: how can I improve my marriage, or more time with my kids, or the bigger things like how can I grow more in my walk with God. I also think about our children’s ministry. What are some things we can do better? What are some things that need to change? The reality is if we stay the same there is no growth. I’m going to pray about ways we can change and grow; not only our kids but our leaders too. Out of the growth, I pray God will change hearts and we will see more kids saved and make disciples. Not to mention deeper relationships with each other.
A few things to be aware of…
If your child is interested in KMAK campfor this summer, it’s time to make deposits! If your child wants to go to camp, a $20 deposit it due to hold their spot. Please keep in mind this is a non-refundable deposit. Those need to be turned in by March 1st. Also, something else to be aware of. The cost for KMAK has changed. It was $175.00 now it is $185.00.The $10 increase is for changes they are making in the program to make it better this year. It’s a great camp and well worth it!!!!! I’m trying to think some ways we can offset costs for our kids. More on that later…
Also, the kids won the kids vs youth contest for Angel Tree!! YAY!! WAY TO GO KIDS!! There were plenty of bows and wrapping paper to go around. Plus, there was some left over! Angel tree went really well and parents that could not afford to give presents to their kids for Christmas got the chance to do so. Thanks for all your help in collecting wrapping paper etc. A BIG THANK YOU to those who picked up an angel. The other day I was in the Dollar Store picking up a few things and I was telling the cashier where I go to church and she said, “Your church helps out with so much, thank you!” God’s people shine for him when we work together to bring Him glory and make a difference.
Children’s Choir will start back up at some point in this month. They will get ready for some type of spring/Easter music. Date will be announced soon!

As I write this, we are less than a week away from Christmas. So much to do. So little time. Presents are wrapped. The tree is decorated. Houses are shining bright with lights. Cookies are in the oven, filling the house with the wonderful aroma of the Christmas season. Much of Christmas is tradition. Much of Christmas has been established apart from the name that it claims, “Christ.” Don’t forget to recognize the grace that Christ has shown that we can even get together and celebrate Christmas. Remember, it is by grace that we are saved. It is by grace that we can wake up each morning, including Christmas day. It is by grace that we spend each moment with family. It is by grace that we open presents. It is by grace that we have a Savior!
There is much that I am excited for as Christmas approaches and the New Year comes close. In the New Year, we will hosting a Disciple Now weekend, which we will call “Elevate Weekend.” This weekend will be a time for students to come together, put aside all distractions and routine elements of their lives that may hold them back from their walk with Christ, and pursue a relentless faith for Christ! We will be giving more information in the months to come, but for now, the date that is set is February 23-25.
Another aspect of the student ministry that I could not be more stoked for is the fact that we are multiplying our small groups into two and hopefully more down the road! The students have been meeting all together on Sunday mornings and the time has come for guys and girls to meet separately, in order to provide an environment more conducive for discussion and spiritual growth.
Great things are happening in the student ministry! Great things are happening in the church! Great things are happening in this community! May we not take a break from our calling to be disciples who make disciples!
